1. In North Macedonia, Marija is almost out of kibble to feed the 100 dogs in her shelter. They will starve if no one helps!

%%%

"We have 100 dogs to feed at the shelter and our stock of kibble is almost depleted. We've tried stretching it out, reducing portions, but that will only last a few more days at most. The dogs are hungry, some of them are getting sick because they're not getting the food they need. It makes me so sad to see them like this!

We're doing our best but we're at a breaking point. Many of our regular donors have lost their jobs or had their salaries cut, so they can no longer afford to give...

Without more kibble, we won't be able to continue helping our dogs. I'm terribly worried. They need us, we can't let them down...!"

2. Without kibble, Marija can no longer help Skopje's stray dogs, and fears that disease and death will ravage the shelter...

###

"If we don't get new kibble soon, things are really going to take a turn for the worse. We'll have to stop rescuing dogs from the streets. And in Skopje, that's a death sentence! The weather is harsh and there's a lot of cruelty towards stray dogs.

Even the dogs we currently have at the shelter are in danger. They're already stressed from living in a shelter, and hunger is already weakening their immune systems. Disease outbreaks could spread very quickly in these confined spaces...

Even if we manage to avoid that, many vulnerable dogs at the shelter simply won't have the strength to fight off illnesses or heal from their injuries without proper nutrition. We could lose them... undoing years of hard work and love. It's a nightmare I can't bear to imagine!"

3. Subsidies, partnerships, calls for donations... Marija has tried everything, in vain: she fears imminent famine at the shelter!

###

"We're working tirelessly to get more donations. We've reached out to every business and organization we could think of, from pet stores to grocery chains. We've held fundraisers and adoption events, trying to raise awareness and scrape together a little money. We've even taken out loans to buy kibble, putting ourselves in debt.

But it never seems to be enough. The needs always outpace what we can provide. We're a big shelter in a poor country, and there's only so much we can do on our own. We've tried partnering with other shelters, but they're in the same boat as us!

We've applied for grants and aid programs, but the process is slow and competitive. It's frustrating to pour so much energy into it and still come up short. Some days, it feels like we're fighting a losing battle. But we can't give up. The dogs are counting on us, and we're their only hope! So we have to keep pushing, begging, fighting for every scrap of food we can get..."

4. Marija isn't asking for money, only kibble to prevent the dogs from starving.

###

"Kibble is the foundation of everything we do at the shelter. Without it, there's no way to keep the dogs healthy and happy, let alone take in new ones!

When we know we have enough kibble, we can afford to plan ahead. We can use what money we have to pay for other important things, like medications, vet visits, and making improvements to the shelter.

Without it, we're constantly in panic mode, trying to make ends meet and never able to look ahead. Our dreams of expanding, of creating a bigger haven, remain just that - dreams! We can't make the shelter a better place for all the dogs living here and those still waiting for our help."

5. Lack of money, space, constant influx of dogs... Running a shelter in Macedonia is a daily struggle, but Marija perseveres, driven by the impact of her actions.

###

"Running a dog shelter in North Macedonia is a daily challenge. We face so many issues - not enough money, not enough space, and always more animals needing our help. It can be a lot to handle, and sometimes I feel very alone in this work.

But then I look at these dogs and remember why I do it. They've been through so much hardship and deserve to be loved and cared for. Knowing we're making a difference in their lives, even if it's a small one, gives me the strength to keep working.

Our biggest wish is for a world where every animal is treated with love and respect, where no dog has to suffer on the streets. It won't be easy, but as long as there are dogs who need us, we'll keep going. One dog at a time, we'll keep fighting. Because their lives are worth it."

6. If this campaign succeeds, Marija will not receive any money but 2000 kg of kibble, delivered from Animal Webaction's logistics platform in Macedonia.

Animal Webaction has a logistics centre in Macedonia which enables us to intervene quickly and deliver kibble.

7. Campaigns launched on Animal Webaction often fail.

When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The beneficiary doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.

9. In Macedonia, neither the state nor the population wants to help the abandoned dogs. A lot of animals are left to die outside, there is no care for them. Volunteers like Marija are their only hope.
