In Spain, the shelter "El refugio de Leo" has been struggling for weeks to get food.

Moved by one of their appeals for donations, we decided to contact them.

Online SOS don't work, supermarket and shops appeals only bring a few bags at best....

Deprived, foreign associations that support the shelter cannot buy kibble.

We would like to support the shelter and Lou, its President, by sending 1440 kg of kibble as soon as possible.

1. On March 25th, the shelter will be out of kibble to feed its 60 dogs

As of March 20, only 80 kg of dry food remained in the shelter, and a few cans to feed the 60 dogs: enough to last a maximum of 5 or 6 days

Because they have no other choice, the shelter volunteers manage the food stock as they go along, depending on what they manage to get...

Without subsidies, and depending on the donations that individuals will make or not, they cannot project themselves over the long term. A particularly stressful situation for them.

2. For weeks now, Lou has been sending out SOS, but without success so far

One of the many calls for donations sent by Lou, president of the association. Unfortunately, the donations do not follow as she would like...

The association already has a teaming group. Unfortunately, it only has 39 members: enough to finance a little more than 2 days of dog food each month...

The use of social networks is time-consuming, and does not always bear fruit: the calls for help sent by Lou in recent weeks have unfortunately not allowed her to collect more than a few bags.

The German association Katolino helps the shelter as much as it can, but cannot buy kibble: "We could see, how much effort they all put in this, to safe these dogs. They deserve to have someone supporting them!!!" said Annette, the President.

3. Supermarket collections do not work, Lou is at a loss to make more people aware of the situation

Thanks to the help of a few local shops, Lou manages to organize collections: she notes with regret that "in Spain, it is still a bit difficult for people to donate"

Present on social networks, the association tries as much as it can to make the situation public, and to encourage more people to give. Unfortunately, Lou admits that she doesn't have enough time to do more...

4. If the collection fails, dogs won't receive any food

We can take action, we have already booked a truck and pallets for 1,440 kg, but we have to pay it before 25 March 2019.

If the collection fails, we will not be able to pay, the departure of the truck will be cancelled and none of the collected food will be delivered...

If the collection fails, we will refund all donors.

5. We need to help them

Cielo spent more than 8 months locked up in the pound, where she gave birth to several babies. Now at the shelter, she is getting better. With an impressive build, Cielo needs a considerable amount of kibble

Shiva is only 4 months old, but she is already very tall: from the mastins breed, she will grow a lot more in the coming months, her diet is crucial for her to develop properly

Goro came at the shelter with her three puppies: all were scrawnyand extremely fearful. She gradually regained confidence in the shelter

Socks arrived at the shelter when she was only two months old: she had been abandoned with her eight brothers and sisters in a simple box...

Very shy, Lucena is one of the most fearful dogs at the shelter. She is Goro's daughter, and has already experienced very severe malnutrition when she was still a puppy. She won't be able to withstand a shortage of kibble

Felipe only arrived at the shelter recently, after months spent at the public shelter. Mastin, he needs to eat large amounts of food

Maoui was rescued in extremis from the pound: she is the only survivor of her litter, all her brothers and sisters have unfortunately succumbed to distemper

Among her litter, Gordi is the only one who stayed at the shelter, after the adoption of all her brothers and sisters. She remains shy and submissive

Nube was separated from her puppies after they were born, and thrown out on the street, damaged and limping. She was treated and gathered at the shelter

6. What will the 1440 kg of food be used for ?

If this collection succeeds, the 1,440 kg of kibble collected will be used to feed the 60 dogs in the shelter for several weeks.

Association El refugio canino de Leo

Bien sûr, nous cherchons activement des adoptions pour tous, en sachant que les petits chiens sont souvent plus adoptés que les gros. Nous les donnons avec un contrat d'adoption, avec leur puce, leurs vaccins et castrés/stérilisés. Le problème est qu'il y a trop de reproduction sans contrôles, trop d'abandons et pas assez d'adoptions. Si on trouve des bonnes familles, on les envoient meme à l'étranger.
