On May 18th, the shelter will no longer have any kibble for its 50 dogs!

In France, Florence's shelter is fighting to save the dogs that everyone has abandoned.

Sick, elderly, or severely abused, all rely entirely on the shelter.

But with a very low stock of kibbles, Florence is very concerned.

Calls for help, personal funding, contact to other associations.... Florence has already tried everything, she doesn't know how to get kibble anymore.

New rescues keep happening, several dogs have died since March: the situation is gruelling for her.

We want to help her, by sending 2880 kilos of kibble as soon as possible.

100% transparent collection

1. Food stocks are almost empty, as of May 18th the dogs will no longer have any kibble left!

On May 10th, there were only a few bags left in the reserve, for a total of 250 kg: enough to feed the dogs for 1 week

2. Rescues and deaths have been unrelenting for weeks, Florence is overwhelmed

$$$
When he arrived at the shelter at the age of 7 months, Bugsy was suffering from an incurable disease, for which the veterinarians wanted him euthanized. Thanks to the care of Florence, he lived a good life for more than 2 years, but died on March 24th

$$$
Julo, rescued from the pound, was 11 years old and totally blind, but showed no other clinical signs. Unfortunately, tests revealed severe uremia and his condition quickly deteriorated, he died on March 22nd

$$$
Louna suffered from abdominal cancer, which she was already present when she arrived at the shelter, and died on March 18th

$$$
Abandoned following a stroke, Sam spent 1.5 years at the shelter, which he joined in a worrying physical condition, infested with ticks and suffering from a heart murmur. Unfortunately, he passed away on March 5th

$$$
Vasco, 15 years old, was abandoned by his owner at the shelter 2 years ago. He left in his sleep on May 6th

14-year-old Bizou, suffering from several breast tumours, and skeletal, was taken out of the pound in mid-April to join the shelter

On May 9th, Florence went to rescye Eryk and Borys, 2 hunting dogs captured and impounded....

On a daily basis, Florence is called upon for many more rescues than she can perform, her shelter having a maximum capacity of 50 dogs. She does her best to ensure that all dogs in a state of adoption get adopted; to restore those whose condition does not allow it, and to intervene as soon as possible for new animals in distress.

Confronted with very difficult situations, she remains sensitive to each one encountered: "After all these years, I should be used to the dramatic rescues of our poor hunting dogs by now... well, I am still not used to it... how can you be a spectator of your dog's agony without any feelings" she said after rescuing Bizou, a poor 14-year-old dog, skeletal and suffering from untreated tumours.

In addition to the difficult rescues, Florence has had to face the death of several of her residents since March: a very harsh context, which is now worsened by the impending lack of kibble....

3. Hathi's shelter is the only one that gives a chance to dogs for which no one fights. For them and all the others, we have to help with kibble!

An old, totally skeletal dog, Oslo was found wandering and placed in a pound, from which no one wanted to take him out. Hathi opened its doors to him, to care for him and accompany him to the end of his life

Threatened with euthanasia and aged 10, Siggi had little hope of getting out of it... Florence answered a call for help to give him a second chance

Eleven-year-old Darmah was abandoned by her former owner at the shelter two years ago, along with Vasco (who died in May). She is now staying at the shelter without her faithful companion

Thin and wandering between cars on a road in Brittany, Yoda suffers from deformations caused by blows or an accident. His urinary problems prevent him from finding a family, so he will spend the reste of his life at the shelter...

Found tied to a tree in the middle of the forest, Jack had been abandoned with his brother Niels in a very barbaric way... Very thin and wounded when he joined the shelter, he gradually recovered

Mara is 11 years old, suffering from an advanced skin disease and was extremely fearful when she arrived... Hosted in a shelter condemned to close in Serbia, Mara had nowhere to go outside of Florence's shelter

Aged 10, Gitan got saved from the euthanasia desired by his master, who preferred younger dogs for hunting... Gitan owes his rescue to the courageous decision of the veterinarian, who refused to euthanize him, and to the home given by Hathi. His adoption is expected soon

The shelter is especially dedicated to abandoned dogs, whom no one wants because they are sick, elderly or have suffered too much abuse. A burden often considered too heavy to bear for traditional shelters and associations, because they are unlikely to be adopted and because their care is expensive...

Florence dedicates her actions to them, to allow them to have a second chance with a new family, or to experience the best possible end of life in the shelter.

"All our seniors are abandoned because they are old and/or sick, are found wandering, picked up in impoundments and unclaimed, and there are the abandonments following the death of the masters, the heirs do not want the poor dog, not to mention those who enter retirement homes and are forced to abandon them because the children do not want to keep them in their homes.... a sad social misery..."

4. If we don't reach the target, dogs won't receive anything

A failed collection on Animal Webaction

We can come into action, we have already booked a truck and pallets, but we have to pay it before the 14/05

If the collection fails, we will not be able to pay, the departure of the truck will be cancelled and none of the collected kibbles will be delivered...

If the collection fails, we will refund all donors.

5. Calls for donations, begs to local shops, personal financing: Florence has already played all her cards. She doesn't know how to find kibble anymore

Légende
In March, Florence launched a campaign to collect kibble from her followers on social networks. This allowed her to last a few weeks, but it is far from bringing a sufficient stock to feed the 50 dogs hosted at the shelter....

Since March, Florence has been calling on her supporters both on social networks and in her daily discussions to collect kibble. An activity that requires a lot of time, difficult to find on the fringes of all the care needed for the dogs in the shelter, and which unfortunately does not bring enough food to meet the needs of the 50 dogs hosted.

The shelter also receives occasional donations from a local business, which has set up a donation box, but it mainly brings back sweets in small quantities.

Florence made it through the month of April thanks to a very generous donation from a local association, which agreed to share its stock, and some bags purchased with her own money. But this cannot last for long, and Florence is very worried "We now have a very low stock..." she told us on May 10, anxious.

6. Florence has already used part of her retirement pension for the first semester of 2019: she no longer has any room for manoeuvre!

Given the physical condition of the dogs she rescues, Florence is very often confronted with substantial veterinary care, which comes at a high cost. If she has payment facilities with the clinic, she cannot allow debts to accumulate, at the risk of no longer being able to guarantee the necessary care for the animals.

"We had a huge bill from our veterinary practice. Taking into account what I could take from my pension, I deposited 10 cheques to settle this debt by spreading the payments until the second half of 2019 [...] I no longer have any room for manoeuvre: I used my joker," she told us.

7. No grants, no sponsorships and no more help to expect from other foundations for a year....

The association does not receive any public subsidy for its action, and despite the many people who follow it on social networks, sponsorships do not take off.

It has already submitted applications for assistance to foundations, in particular the Brigitte Bardot Foundation, which helped out in 2018. This assistance has covered one third of the expenses incurred, but it will not be possible to renew it for several months.

Another case is being investigated by the 30 millions d'amis foundation, but under no circumstances will this potential support allow the association to buy kibble....

8. Florence dedicates herself body and soul to the shelter

Florence with part of her pack at the shelter

Used as a hunting dog, Idole was taken from her former owner for abuse. She spent more than 2 years in a SPA, accompanied by her son Kiss, with no prospect of adoption... Florence fought for her, restored her confidence and managed to find her a new family

Kiss was with her mother Idole, and was still a puppy, when they were taken from their owner for abuse. He spent the first two years of his life in a SPA, before Florence gathered him in Hathi. Like her mother Idole, Kiss has since been adopted

Considered too old to hunt, Anna was taken to the vet by her owner at the age of 10 to be euthanized. The veterinarian refused the procedure, and Florence agreed to take Anna in. Adopted, she now lives in her new family

Florence founded her association in 2014, but has been invested in animal protection for decades. Her shelter was only formalized in 2015, with 2 fundamental principles: to give a chance to animals that wouldn't have any elsewhere, and to allow them to enjoy a life outside of a pen.

Thus, the Hathi shelter hosts 50 free dogs: all live together, in packs, which requires a permanent presence and and increased workload.

"Our dogs live in freedom together and with humans on a daily basis to recover from their unfortunate past between abuse, abandonment and programmed euthanasia."

9. What will the 2880 kilos be used for ?

This collection is organized for the association HATHI . The 2880 kg collected will be delivered to Florence to feed the 50 dogs cared for at the shelter.
