On May 18th, the shelter will no longer have any kibble for its 50 dogs!
In France, Florence's shelter is fighting to save the dogs that everyone has abandoned.
Sick, elderly, or severely abused, all rely entirely on the shelter.
But with a very low stock of kibbles, Florence is very concerned.
Calls for help, personal funding, contact to other associations.... Florence has already tried everything, she doesn't know how to get kibble anymore.
New rescues keep happening, several dogs have died since March: the situation is gruelling for her.
We want to help her, by sending 2880 kilos of kibble as soon as possible.
14-year-old Bizou, suffering from several breast tumours, and skeletal, was taken out of the pound in mid-April to join the shelter
On a daily basis, Florence is called upon for many more rescues than she can perform, her shelter having a maximum capacity of 50 dogs. She does her best to ensure that all dogs in a state of adoption get adopted; to restore those whose condition does not allow it, and to intervene as soon as possible for new animals in distress.
Confronted with very difficult situations, she remains sensitive to each one encountered: "After all these years, I should be used to the dramatic rescues of our poor hunting dogs by now... well, I am still not used to it... how can you be a spectator of your dog's agony without any feelings" she said after rescuing Bizou, a poor 14-year-old dog, skeletal and suffering from untreated tumours.
In addition to the difficult rescues, Florence has had to face the death of several of her residents since March: a very harsh context, which is now worsened by the impending lack of kibble....
The shelter is especially dedicated to abandoned dogs, whom no one wants because they are sick, elderly or have suffered too much abuse. A burden often considered too heavy to bear for traditional shelters and associations, because they are unlikely to be adopted and because their care is expensive...
Florence dedicates her actions to them, to allow them to have a second chance with a new family, or to experience the best possible end of life in the shelter.
"All our seniors are abandoned because they are old and/or sick, are found wandering, picked up in impoundments and unclaimed, and there are the abandonments following the death of the masters, the heirs do not want the poor dog, not to mention those who enter retirement homes and are forced to abandon them because the children do not want to keep them in their homes.... a sad social misery..."
We can come into action, we have already booked a truck and pallets, but we have to pay it before the 14/05
If the collection fails, we will not be able to pay, the departure of the truck will be cancelled and none of the collected kibbles will be delivered...
If the collection fails, we will refund all donors.
Since March, Florence has been calling on her supporters both on social networks and in her daily discussions to collect kibble. An activity that requires a lot of time, difficult to find on the fringes of all the care needed for the dogs in the shelter, and which unfortunately does not bring enough food to meet the needs of the 50 dogs hosted.
The shelter also receives occasional donations from a local business, which has set up a donation box, but it mainly brings back sweets in small quantities.
Florence made it through the month of April thanks to a very generous donation from a local association, which agreed to share its stock, and some bags purchased with her own money. But this cannot last for long, and Florence is very worried "We now have a very low stock..." she told us on May 10, anxious.
Given the physical condition of the dogs she rescues, Florence is very often confronted with substantial veterinary care, which comes at a high cost. If she has payment facilities with the clinic, she cannot allow debts to accumulate, at the risk of no longer being able to guarantee the necessary care for the animals.
"We had a huge bill from our veterinary practice. Taking into account what I could take from my pension, I deposited 10 cheques to settle this debt by spreading the payments until the second half of 2019 [...] I no longer have any room for manoeuvre: I used my joker," she told us.
The association does not receive any public subsidy for its action, and despite the many people who follow it on social networks, sponsorships do not take off.
It has already submitted applications for assistance to foundations, in particular the Brigitte Bardot Foundation, which helped out in 2018. This assistance has covered one third of the expenses incurred, but it will not be possible to renew it for several months.
Another case is being investigated by the 30 millions d'amis foundation, but under no circumstances will this potential support allow the association to buy kibble....
Florence founded her association in 2014, but has been invested in animal protection for decades. Her shelter was only formalized in 2015, with 2 fundamental principles: to give a chance to animals that wouldn't have any elsewhere, and to allow them to enjoy a life outside of a pen.
Thus, the Hathi shelter hosts 50 free dogs: all live together, in packs, which requires a permanent presence and and increased workload.
"Our dogs live in freedom together and with humans on a daily basis to recover from their unfortunate past between abuse, abandonment and programmed euthanasia."
This collection is organized for the association HATHI . The 2880 kg collected will be delivered to Florence to feed the 50 dogs cared for at the shelter.
- Animal Webaction has been helping more than 833 animal welfare associations over the past 5 years, with more than 1,967 deliveries in 8 countries (see photos).
- We make sure to contact each partner association, inquire to ensure its reliability and always ask for supporting documents.
- Our partner associations only receive physical products, which means we never send money. When you offer 10kg of food, we deliver 10kg of food to the association.
- We also deal with transportation ourselves, and make sure all the products collected are properly brought where the association needs them to be, so a quick delivery is guaranteed.
- We will notify you by email as soon as the product bought thanks to your donation has been delivered.
- We will ask the association to take pictures of the food received, and will send you these pictures.
- If you change your mind, we will refund your donation upon request, without charge or proof of any kind.
- If unfortunately the collection fails, we will not deliver anything, we will refund you the full amount of your donation.
