Animal Webaction visited the site 13 May 2019 and confirms the situation described below.

In Bosnia, Amila is out of kibble to feed street dogs, those in shelters will soon have nothing to eat either!

Amila sent us an SOS: the stock of kibble is getting smaller every day, she cannot renew it...

We visited the shelter on May 13th.k

To spare food, street dogs are only fed once a week, or even less: they will starve to death!

The 35 dogs hosted in the association's shelters, many of whom cannot be adopted, have no other hope: what will happen to them without kibble?

We want to help them by sending 2 000 kg of kibble as soon as possible.

100% transparency guarante

1. There is no longer enough food: street dogs are only fed once a week, some are not even fed at all!

Seen on May 13th, these two puppies were taken off the road by Amila, who also gave them some food. But there's nothing more she can do for them right now!

Seen on May 13th, these two puppies were taken off the road by Amila, who also gave them some food. But there's nothing more she can do for them right now!

On May 18, Amila went to meet a pack of dogs that is still getting kibble once a week. But for how long?

On May 19, Amila discovered this young puppy with her mother on the roadside. She gave them some kibbles, but knows she is unable to ensure their survival...

At the head of 3 small shelters hosting a total of 35 dogs, Amila and the few other volunteers are very involved with the street dogs they cannot gather. But with a stock of dry food that is shrinking every day, with no prospect of being renewed, Amila had to make the difficult decision to stop most stray feedings....

"We feed stray dogs when we have spare food. Lately it is MUCH less than we would like to" says Amila, President of the association.

Because they have more difficulty finding food, Amila only continues to feed dogs outside the city, on average only once a week: "I don't know genders. If i start hanging with them, i will break mentally, cause i cant take them to safety." she says.

2. Amila is saving the remaining kibbles for the 35 dogs hosted in shelters, but for them too there will soon be nothing left....

###
The stock of kibbles photographed during our visit on May 13th: 400 kilos remained then, enough to feed the 35  dogs hosted in shelters for barely 1 month...

Our caseworker Eldar went with Amila to the three shelters, meeting the 35 dogs hosted by the association

3. The association is going through a difficult time: Amila knows that she will not be able to buy kibbles once the stock is exhausted!

###
Amila is extremely worried by the difficulties in getting kibble: "I am freaking out. Out network is really poor, as you can see" she told us shortly before we came.

###
35 dogs are hosted in the association's shelters, feeding them every day is a constant struggle

"We barely make it from month to month. Also, we have HUGE problems fundraising for food in Summer months - we simply have NO donations for anything trough june, july, august and september. These months are very hard for us." Amila explained, deeply concerned by the current situation.

Day after day, she sees the stock of kibble getting lower, knowing that she will not be able to get more once the last bag is used...

4. Victims of violent trauma, these dogs have almost no chance of being adopted: what will happen to them if the shelter can no longer feed them?

###
Katherine used to live on the street alone and was only 6 months old when she was reported. Probably hit by a car, her two hind legs were broken, she could only drag herself on the ground.... She is now able to move around, but still has after-effects

###
Bak was discovered by accident while feeding stray dogs hidden in the forest. Completely blind and skeletal, he was taken to the shelter. Examinations have shown that Bak has leishmaniasis: the care provided has allowed him to partially regain his eyesight, but he must undergo lifelong treatment and regular examinations

###
Samson was just a puppy when he was rescued, very skinny, and had an advanced skin disease: he had almost no hair left from the neck to the rear axle... He remains very fearful today, and is not completely cured of his skin disease

###
Captured by the dogcatchers, Sparky was severely abused and thrown into a horrendous pound in which he contracted a disease. When he got rescued, we was only skin and bones, his survival was compromised. He still has serious mental traumas

###
Harmony was buried with her mother Grace under the rubble of a ruined house, which had collapsed after major floods. They were first taken in as boarders, but joined the shelter when it closed. Harmony remains a very fearful dog, not used to Man's presence

###
Khan lived with his master for 8 years, but the latter wished to euthanize him when he had to move... Khan was taken to the shelter in extremis. Khan, however, is in poor health, and recently suffered from a stroke.

###
Tadeusz wandered in the middle of a demonstration in the streets, with an injured leg: the volunteers came to his rescue. Unfortunately, the lesions on his leg are too old to be repaired, he will have lifelong sequelae

###
Thrown into a river with his companion Eric, Sebastian was rescued by specialized rescue workers in extremis. Exhausted and frozen, he was taken care of at the shelter, without whom he would not have survived... He still has psychological consequences, which have so far hindered his adoption

###
A former street dog, Azra gave birth when she had no shelter, and tried to hide in an abandoned house. Having seen her looking for food in the street, the volunteers managed to get her and her babies Kerim and Ahmed to safety. All three of them are still at the shelter

###
Zucka suffered a heart attack while living on the street. She is 12 years old, has heart problems and can no longer live outside the shelter

Due to lack of space, the shelter only hosts dogs in deep distress, unable to survive on their own in the street. While those who heal are often adopted thanks to Amila's efforts, some have physical and/or psychological consequences that are too strong: the shelter is their only way out.

"We have 80% of not adoptable dogs, different medical cases and mental traumas, and we have to provide for them for a lifetime" says Amila.

5. The foreign association that supported Amila no longer has the means to help her, she asks us to intervene

For several years, Amila has benefited from the support of an association in the Netherlands, making it possible to finance certain care, equipment, but also kibble. Unfortunately, this small association can no longer support Amila financially, because its resources are not sufficient, and it already supports another shelter at 100%:

"With the shelter in Orasje, holding an average of 160 dogs, we needed to make decisions.  We can't spend little donations twice." said Suze Steenbergen, a member of the association. "We are in regular contact with Amila, and we think they do a great job. We visited locations where they care for their dogs. And it is all good quality of care."

6. If we don't reach the objective, dogs won't receive any food

A failed collection on Animal Webaction

We can come into action, we have already booked a truck and pallets, but we have to pay it before May 24th.

If the collection fails, we will not be able to pay, the departure of the truck will be cancelled and none of the collected kibbles will be delivered...

If the collection fails, we will refund all donors.

7. With the help of some support in Denmark, Amila tries to find new sponsors, but it doesn't work

Inger and Sebastian, during one of her many visits to the shelter of Neverland

Relatively small, the association is also located in an isolated area, in which no one wants to intervene: "We are small and no orgas want to visit us." says Amila.

She only manages to get by thanks to the support of individuals located in Denmark, who have formed a dedicated association. Inger Skibsted, President of the Danish association, contacted us in the first place to ask for our help: "At the moment we can hardly cover our dogs needs, and it leaves us little or no food at all to feed stray dogs. Please consider helping us, any kind of help would be highly appreciated." she told us then.

Unfortunately, no association or other organization has yet accepted to take actions...

8. In Bosnia, street dogs are tortured and killed illegally...

In total illegality, Bosnian pounds hide the bodies of dead dogs in refrigerated bins...

In 1995, when the war in Bosnia ended, the streets were full of stray dogs: the crisis and famine no longer allowed the inhabitants to support them.. A dark period then began for street dogs that had proliferated massively: harassment, torture and violent mass slaughter had become the daily lot of abandoned dogs.

In 2009, in order to stop such a massacre, the government enforced a law prohibiting the capture and murder of dogs in pounds without prior veterinary advice.

But here's the thing: if this law tasted like victory to some, the lure of profit led some private pounds to charge the government for the purchase of phantom equipment.

Today, pounds catch, torture and kill stray dogs illegally in order to collect state subsidies. Corruption is not reported in the media, and private shelters try to save dogs that pass through the nets of illegal pounds...

9. Amila didn't expect things to evolve this way, but doesn't regret anything

###
Amila during a care session in one of the three shelters

Former street dog,  too old to cope with such a life anymore, Charlie was placed in the shelter before being adopted in Holland. A totally unexpected adoption for a dog of his age and type

Trissie was met at a place called "Lake of Tears" by the volunteers: a privileged place for those wishing to get rid of their dog, where hunters regularly go to shoot them... Gathered in the shelter, she has since been adopted in Denmark

Very affected by a skin disease, Jasna was only a giant wound when she was found: her chances of survival were then counted... Thanks to the care received, Jasna recovered completely, and was adopted in Holland

Rainy was just a tiny little puppy when she was found, abandoned in the rain in the middle of nowhere... She was taken to safety before being adopted in Bosnia

"Everything came from the love of animals, and especially dogs," explained Amila, who is still surprised at the way things have turned out. Initially involved in the field without an associative framework, Amila helped street dogs in Bosnia for years, before the association was founded.

Over the years, Amila's field work and the network established in Denmark have enabled the adoption of more than 300 dogs, mainly in Denmark and the Netherlands.

Mother of a 3 year old girl, Amila devotes all her time outside to her commitment to the association and the dogs of Bosnia.

10. What will the 2000 kg collected be used for ?

This collection is organised by Marianne's dog food bank. The 2000 kg of kibbles collected will be delivered to Amila, to feed the 35 dogs hosted in the shelters, as well as street dogs who cannot be gathered.
