Animal Webaction visited the site 25 July 2019 and confirms the situation described below.

In Romania, Piatra Neamt's public shelter is out of kibble, 300 dogs will starve to death!

We were there on July 25th: already rationed, the dogs no longer have any kibbles.

Starving and weakened, they are unable to fight diseases, many of them already dead.

Hunger increases tensions, fights break out, and the weakest cannot eat.

Mirela and the Mukitza association ask us to help them protect these dogs.

We want to send 3000 kg of kibble as a matter of urgency.

100% transparency guaranteed

1. The stock of kibbles at the pound is used up, 300 dogs will starve to death!

On July 29th, Mirela sent us this photo of the remaining stock: 7 bags of 10 kg, 120 kg being necessary each day to feed the 300 dogs received. Mirela still doesn't know if and when the town hall will provide kibble again....

The Piatra Neamt pound accommodates 300 dogs, for whom 120 kg of kibbles are needed every day. But for economical reasons, the town hall does not cover the dogs' needs: the quantities bought are random, unknown in advance, and always insufficient to feed the 300 dogs.

During our visit on July 25th, Mirela was already worried that the stock would melt without any replacement being considered... As of July 29th, there were only 7 bags left, and there was total uncertainty that new kibbles would be brought in....

2. Starving and kept in unhealthy conditions, the dogs in the pound die by the dozens

$$$
In the grip of untreated infections, Bono refused to eat or move at the pound.... The volunteers finally managed to get him out, but it was too late, Bono died at the vet clinic

$$$
Thrown into the pound with her three puppies, Huska lost her mind because of the difficult conditions of detention there... She ended her puppies' lives herself, then stopped moving and eating. Due to lack of resources, the volunteers were only able to take her from the pound after some time, but it was already too late: Huska died at the clinic at the end of July

###
Particularly fragile, many puppies contract diseases during their stay. Mirela has witnessed the deaths of nearly 40 of them in recent weeks...

Detained in an overcapacity pound, malnourished and deprived of medical care, the dogs lead a difficult life, both physically and morally.

Mirela estimates that 30% of puppies who arrive at the pound do not survive, and deplores the death of several adult dogs each month.

"Most of them died because the shelter is infested with parvo, distemper, corona virus and mange. The food is of low quality, the shelter do not afford or care to be treated as treatment are expensive. They are too skinny and cannot fight against sickness" she explains.

Already rationed, the dogs no longer have any food, we must at all costs intervene before the situation degenerates!

3. Not enough food and too many dogs per box: the weakest dogs cannot managed to eat

###
The 300 dogs in the pound are kept in concrete pens: small in size, the pens do not really allow them to move, and the number of dogs housed in each one makes this situation worse

###
With sometimes nearly 10 dogs per pen, promiscuity is extreme, and tensions are palpable

###
Under stress and hunger, the most dominant dogs become aggressive towards the other ones, sometimes leading to fights

###
During our visit, Lilliac still had traces of a fight with the other dogs... Thin and weakened, he also suffers from a respiratory disease, and therefore remains in quarantine in a cage....

###
Terrified, some dogs prefer to stand back, and only show up when the dominant ones calm down. Even if it means not being able to eat at all....

Overcrowded, the pound now accommodates 300 dogs. The small concrete pens were not designed for such a large number, the dogs are on top of each other.

Faced with a lack of food, the dominant ones impose themselves by survival instinct, and prevent the most submissive dogs from eating. They remain prostrated in a corner of a pen, and gradually let themselves starve to death...

4. To save money, the town hall does not buy enough kibble, and only takes low-quality kibble that makes dogs sick

###
Pale, dry, nutrient-free kibbles are the daily diet of the pound's dogs. Volunteers try to mix them with better quality ones to compensate, but cannot provide the necessary quantities

###
Skin diseases are common at the pound, and are exacerbated by insufficient and poor quality nutrition

###
Fiffy was affected by scabies and placed in some makeshift quarantine. Without better quality kibbles, her recovery remains uncertain

###
Weakened by her forced diet, Carla contracted a respiratory disease, and was placed in isolation in a simple cage... but receives no treatment or other suitable food

"The food provided by the shelter is of law quality. Another dog died -reserved by France and another one is dying as he does not eat. I go take him out. Others are leaving tomorrow as they are dying here" explained Mirela, who fights as hard as she can for these dogs.

5. If we don't reach the target, dogs won't receive any food

A failed collection on Animal Webaction

We can take action, we have already booked a truck and pallets, but we have to pay it before August 1st.

If the collection fails, we will not be able to pay, the departure of the truck will be cancelled and none of the collected kibbles will be delivered...

If the collection fails, we will refund all donors.

6. Mirela gives her time and money without counting, but it's not enough

###
Food, medical care, spayings/neuterings.... Mirela already funds many things at her own expense, but can't do more!

Mirela must above all focus her efforts on adoptions, to prevent dogs from being euthanized. Because when the number of dogs exceeds 300, euthanasias are performed to make room again....

Mirela is very committed to the fate of Piatra Neamt's dogs, and already finances as many elements as she can: vaccination campaigns, spaying/ neutering campaigns, medical care etc.... But it is totally impossible for her to cope with the quantities needed for the 300 dogs!

Unfortunately, she cannot introduce alternative food either, such as bread or leftovers: this is now strictly prohibited for hygienic reasons. Only kibbles can be brought by volunteers, but they cannot afford to buy them....

7. The association Mukitza also struggles to help the dogs on the spot

From France, the association Mukitza organizes the rescue of the most fragile dogs or those in danger of euthanasia. But several of her appeals have failed in recent months, she can't help more...

The association Mukitza is one of the few involved alongside Mirela, and supports her as much as it can. But it also supports many other shelters, and the costs are enormous: several of the pools organized in recent months have failed...

She asks us to intervene to help Mirela and the 300 dogs at the pound.

8. We need to help them

###
Only three months old, Zapada is growing rapidly, but does not eat enough. Not vaccinated, like all puppies in the pound, he is at risk of contracting a disease if he gets any weaker

###
Rex is only 4 years old, but already looks much older.... Abandoned by his former owner, he is emaciated, and already suffers from a skin disease that devours his eye contour area

###
Captured by the dogcatchers, Lola has been totally down since her arrival at the pound. She does not interact with the other dogs, nor with humans, and cannot fight to eat her fill

###
Suffering from scabies, Adina is currently in quarantine. She is very weakened and has no chance of healing without kibble

9. Mirela's generosity is endless, but she can't do it alone

###
Mirela tries to keep smiling with the dogs, but is deeply affected by the situation

Mirela is now one of the few volunteers at the pound: the situation is so terrible that many volunteers have drifted away time after time.... As a social worker at the town hall of Piatra Neamt, especially with foundations working with children, she has long working days.... And tries as she can to divide her time on a voluntary basis between children and animals in distress.

If Mirela does not complain, the situation at the shelter deeply affects her. Despite the hundreds of adoptions she has participated in, and the hundreds of dogs who recovered thanks to her actions, Mirela cannot enjoy these victories, because new dogs in distress are constantly arriving...

Overwhelmed, she needs help to move forward!

10. The terrible municipal pounds in Romania

The Piatra Neamt pound is located in the northeast of Romania

Dog corpses at the exit of a public shelter

In Romania, since 2013, dog hunters are being paid for each dog captured. This perverse system invites them to pick up as many dogs as possible, regardless of whether they have owners...

Once the animals are in their premises, they no longer bring anything back, so they must disappear as soon as possible to free up space for the next ones. If they are not adopted thanks to the actions of NGOs, the dogs are then euthanized, or starve to death crammed into their boxes in indifference...

11. Through our logistics platform in Romania, we can operate rapidly!

Animal Webaction food leaving our logistics centre in Romania

If the collection succeeds, the food will leave directly from our logistics centre in Romania! So we can act very quickly, let's help Mirela and the dogs of Piatra Neamt!

12. What will the 3000 kg collected be used for ?

This food collection is organized by the French association Mukitza, for the benefit of the 300 dogs of the Piatra Neamt public shelter. The 3000 kg of kibbles collected will be delivered to Mirela to feed the 300 dogs kept at the pound.
