Animal Webaction visited the site 11 April 2019 and confirms the situation described below.

We just came back from Laura's shelter, she doesn't have any dog food left, she begs us to help her feed her dogs!

Made aware of Laura's situation by her repeated SOS to get dog food, we went to the shelter on April 11th.

On the spot, we only found 6kg of kibble and a few cans left.

We promised Laura to help her by launching this food collection.

All her calls for help have failed so far, which is why she relies on us, we are her last hope.

We will bring the collected food at the shelter ourselves.

1. We went to the shelter on April 11th: there is no dog food left, none of the SOS sent on Facebook work!

###
Unfortunately, the disastrous weather conditions delayed our arrival for several days: only accessible by small dirt roads, the shelter is located in the mountains of Granada, and suffers from its isolation

###
During our visit, there were only 6kg of kibble left, and a few can. Laura and the dogs lives day by day....

Dogs licking down to the last crumbs in the bottom of food bowls....

Following Laura's calls for help, reporting that she was almost out of kibble, we went to the shelter on April 11th.

On the spot, we found 6kg of kibble, along with a few cans, a very small amount for the 30 dogs hosted at the shelter...

2. Laura calls for help to save her shelter, but without success

For weeks, Laura has been calling for help on social networks: the economic difficulties are such that she is not sure she will be able to continue her actions at the shelter!

However, after weeks at this rate, Laura received only a few marginal donations... Every day, she buys small amounts of food to cover the dogs' needs, wondering how she will do the next day...

3. As for now, Laura spends 70% of her income for the shelter. But she also had a child to care for, it is impossible for her to go on like this !

###
The whole shelter rests on Laura's shoulders... Most of the expenses are covered thanks to her income

To date, Laura uses her salary to pay most of the shelter's costs: food, water (the shelter does not have running water), de-worming, and mileage charges are constant and incompressible charges.

But Laura also pays foster families for 15 other dogs: too weak, they cannot live safely in the shelter. All in all, that makes very significant costs, which she can no longer afford alone....

4. Isolated in the mountains, the shelter is difficult to access, and has no running water! The workload is huge for Laura, she has no time to look for food!

Yet another call for help from Laura, this time for the cans to transport water....

###
In winter, 8 litres of water must be brought to the shelter every week, a figure that climbs to almost a ton during the summer!!!!

Isolated in the mountains, and only accessible by small dirt roads, the shelter suffers greatly from this location. Laura has no volunteers to help her and has to take care of everything at the shelter.

With a sloping ground, and no running water, the daily actions are a real marathon for her, which must bring up to 1 ton of water per week in the summer months!

Between her work, her family and this harassing workload, Laura doesn't have a minute to solicit sponsors or collect food outside of social networks...

5. We want to help them

###
Güilo was condemned to be euthanized by his former masters, who did not wish to welcome their first child with a dog in the house... He's only a year and a half old

###
Former hunting dog, Mantecao was abandoned overnight, and found by Laura who brought him at the shelter

###
Abused by her former master, Lili was able to be taken away from him thanks to Laura's courage, who fought to get her

###
Liu was thrown over Laura's fence last Christmas, along with her 8 brothers and sisters.... All have since been adopted, but Liu is still waiting at the shelter

###
From another litter, these three brothers keep Liu company at the shelter, and stay in the hope of being adopted.

###
Lolo was found by chance by Laura, while she was looking for another dog. Abandoned, he was hiding in a hole and was taken to the shelter

###
Found pregnant, Tina was in a very poor physical condition when she arrived at the shelter. Some of her wounds are not yet healed

###
Belonging to an elderly couple, Paco was thrown out on the street after his mistress died (his master was placed in a retirement home, and there was nothing he could do for him...)

6. If the collection fails, dogs won't receive anything

A failed collection on Animal Webaction

We can come into action, we have already booked a truck and pallets, but we have to pay it before April 15th.

If the collection fails, we will not be able to pay, the departure of the truck will be cancelled and none of the collected kibbles will be delivered...

If the collection fails, we will refund all donors.

7. In Spain, dog is not man's best friend

An article from February 2019, reporting a 20% increase in animal abuse in Spain...

A recent study from the Spanish Nature Protection Service (Seprona) reported 10,920 offences related to injuries to domestic animals in 2018 alone.... An alarming figure which, however, is far from representing all animal abuse in the country, which most of the time goes unpunished.

Commonly used for hunting, dogs are at the centre of these abuses: beaten and barely fed, hunting dogs are thrown into the street at the slightest sign of weakness. Exhausted and abused, dogs are often too weak to survive alone in the wild.

Across Spain, several shelters exist and are struggling to offer a second chance to these dogs rejected by others...

8. To keep on saving them, Laura needs our support

###
Laura, worshipped by her dogs at the shelter

Laura has devoted a large part of her life to the protection of abandoned animals for many years. If she fully accepts this choice, she is now confronted with the difficulty of combining everything, and is having difficulty living the current situation:

"For me, taking care of the shelter is a wonderful thing, I have been spending a lot of time there for a long time... For food, I live from day to day.... I don't want to leave them without food, because I know there would be fights.... It's overwhelming to live like this, with the stress that they may not have anything to eat one day."

9. What will the collected kibble be used for?

If the collection succeeds,  the 2880 kg of dog food will be used to feed Laura's dogs at the shelter.
