Animal Webaction visited the site 13 April 2019 and confirms the situation described below.

We just came back from Zoritza's shelter in Serbia: she is desperate, she soon won't have any food left to feed her dogs!

The association Mukitza called us for help: they can no longer buy food for the shelter, the stock is almost exhausted, and Zoritza is overwhelmed.

We were at the shelter on April 13th, and saw it for ourselves: the stock, although it may seem impressive, will not last more than 15 days for the 230 dogs welcomed...

Zoritza has just collected more than 25 dogs, she no longer has a volunteer, all her time is devoted to the shelter: alone, she can't find kibble.

Her few supporters have already done everything they could: she has no alternative, we are now her last hope.

We want to help her, by sending 3 000 kg of kibble as soon as possible.

100% transparency guaranteed

1. We went to Zoritza's shelter on April 13th: in 15 days, the food stock will be exhausted, she is very worried!

###
During our visit, Zoritza guided us through the food reserve: many bags of food were still visible, but they will only be able to feed the dogs for 15 days...

###
With 230 dogs at the shelter, the amount of kibble to be provided continuously are astronomical. We have been following Zoritza for more than a year, and know that this subject is a permanent stress for her

Following a call for help from the association Mukitza, the main supporter of the shelter, we went to the shelter on April 13th.

The food stock supplied by Mukitza will run out in 15 days: it is totally impossible for the French association to buy food again, and Zoritza has no prospect of being able to get some elsewhere...

In the past, the Animal Webaction community has already swung into action several times to support Zoritza, with one thing in common: each time, dogs were already starving! This time, we want to avoid this at all costs.

2. To protect them from the worst, Zoritza rescued more than 25 dogs at a time in March: her stock of kibble has melted away!

In March, the volunteers of  Mukitza went to Serbia to transport the dogs from the Bačka Topola shelter themselves, which had to close its doors. 25 of them joined Zoritza's shelter

###
Abandoned with her parents and siblings at Backa shelter several years ago, Fumi was transferred to Zoritza with several of her brothers

###
Noam, Fumi's brother, was abandoned with his whole family several years ago... he is now with Zoritza, but remains with some of his brothers and sisters

Bono had been at Backa's shelter since 2011, and has always known this life more or less... He has long lived in a pack with little human contact

Artho was found on the road when he was still a puppy, and gathered at Backa's shelter several years ago. He has been at Zoritza's shelter since mid-March

Born in a cemetery, with 15 other puppies from 2 litters, Lary was gathered at the Backa shelter, where they all lived in packs for many years.

Djina was one of the puppies found in the cemetery with Lary several years ago... she remains quite afraid

First thrown at the public pound, Easy joined the Backa shelter in 2014, and got to Zoritza shelter last March. She's not used to Human presence

Vendy is now an old dog, but she retains a wild character and rarely comes very close to humans.

Following the shut down of Bačka Topola's shelter, located 80 km from hers, Zoritza gathered 25 new dogs overnight, who would otherwise have ended up on the street.

A very high number of dogs to welcome at the same time, which was added to the other rescues made in March: the food stock kept at the shelter melted away much faster than expected!

Fortunately, the association Mukitza  managed to buy kibble as a matter of urgency, but can't do this again, and is now helpless.

3. The dogs's adjustment to the new shelter is very difficult to manage, and requires a lot of time and energy from Zoritza

###
Having lived most of their lives in shelters, with occasional human presence, most of the dogs coming from Backa Topola are afraid of Human's presence

###
Zoritza tries to socialize these dogs little by little, a long and difficult  work among 230 dogs

###
Wounded in the snout when she arrived, Paola still has a visible scar

Most of the dogs recently rescued are elderly, and have spent most of their lives in shelters: Zoritza must therefore dispense a great amount of care for them, including medical care. Several of them had to be operated on after their arrival to remove tumours that appeared with age.

Because there were not enough people at Bačka Topola shelter to take care for them, many are afraid of human presence, and need to be socialized. A real challenge for Zoritza, who must pay special attention to them in the middle of the 200 other dogs in the shelter, and make sure no trouble arises.

4. Her only volunteer has been away for a month, Zoritza has to manage everything with only one employee: she is completly wound up!

###
For several weeks, Zoritza has been taking care of the shelter alone, with the help of the only employee left. Previously, two employees helped her on a daily basis, but one of them had to leave due to lack of funding.

Andrea, the only volunteer from the shelter, returned to her native Colombia for several weeks at the end of February

###
Zoritza manages every day as she can, at the shelter from morning to evening, but this hectic pace is very difficult for her to keep up...

For many months, Zoritza has benefited from the precious help of Andrea, the only volunteer at the shelter, who shows great support.

But Andrea unfortunately left for Colombia, her native country, several weeks ago after a long absence: Zoritza had to face these last few weeks and the arrival of so many dogs alone.

An unrestrained pace, particularly difficult in view of her fragile health....

5. If we don't reach the target, dogs won't receive any food

A failed collection on Animal Webaction

We can come into action, we have already booked a truck and pallets, but we have to pay it before April 18th.

If the collection fails, we will not be able to pay, the departure of the truck will be cancelled and none of the collected kibbles will be delivered...

If the collection fails, we will refund all donors.

6. At 70 years old, Zoritza dedicates herself body and soul to the shelter, but she is exhausted! Alone, it is impossible for her to find food for the dogs

###
Zoritza with Tale, a recently abandoned 3-month-old puppy

The situation of street dogs in Serbia was so bad that Zoritza decided to intervene and invest herself for them. The Bella Shelter has been existing for 16 years now. It saved hundreds of dogs.

Zoritza is over 70 years old, she lives 365 days a year among her dogs and shares every minute of her time with them. She never takes a vacation and even if she gets sick, she does not allow herself to leave the shelter.

For more than 6 years, she lived there without running water or electricity. She has put all her savings, her energy, her health, her personal life into maintaining this place in a respectable state and making it evolve as best as possible... Everything is at the end of her arms... but she is constantly living with the stress of knowing how she will feed her dogs, and she is exhausted.

We have to help her hold on!

7. The French association that supports Zoritza cannot buy any more food: they ask us to help out!

The shelter regularly receives support from the French association Mukitza: its President Corinne herself took charge of bringing the dogs from the Bačka Topola shelter to Zoritza a few weeks ago.

But the association does not have enough resources to cover all the costs of the shelter, and also helps many others.

Having done everything she could, she asked for our help to get kibble, and thus help Zoritza in her daily struggle to take care of the 230 dogs in the shelter.

8. In Serbia, 100,000 street dogs are hunted down by dogcatchers to be killed or trapped in filthy pounds

Dogcatcher getting dogs off the streets in a brutal way... in the indifference of everyone

It is estimated that Serbia has about 100,000 stray dogs. Private companies were commissioned in 2012 to capture these dogs: their dogcatchers (the name given to the employees responsible for the capture) have been operating throughout the country since then.

Receiving bonuses for each dog captured, dogcatchers hunt dogs relentlessly, and use extremely violent capture techniques. Many dogs are killed, the others end up crammed into filthy pounds, where they get no care nor food.

Volunteers believe that their actions, in addition to being cruel, do not have a beneficial impact on the volume of stray dogs in the country. Worse still, they greatly undermine the beneficial actions that have existed until now: the subsidies allocated since 2007 as part of a vast national sterilization program have been drastically cut, despite encouraging results when they were carried out....

9. We need to help them

###
Rescued as a puppy, while he was wandering on the road, Plavi is now 14 years old and has spent his entire life at the shelter

###
Thrown over the shelter gate, Mila was extremely lucky not to be attacked by other dogs... she is only 1.5 years old

###
Ljiban was a street dog at the mercy of the dogcatchers before being brought to the shelter

###
Thrown into a bag with his brothers and sisters, Bobbi was picked up by Zoritza 6 years ago now

###
Panona was accompanied by her 9 puppies when she was brought to the shelter, Zoritza took care of eachand every one of them

###
Kika used to be a street dog, managing as she could, and threatened by dogcatchers before Zoritza's intervention

10. What will the collected food be used for?

If this collection succeeds, the 3000 kg collected will be used to feed the 230 dogs at Zoritza's shelter.
