ASSOCIATION
Woolly Woofters FR France

These Macedonian street dogs are out of kibble, they'll starve to death!

Viktor and the small French association that supports him beg us to help the street dogs.

We went there on May 29th, and followed Viktor throughout the city to meet with stray dogs.

Left abandoned, sometimes dumped at the landfill like common garbage, street dogs lead a difficult life.

But Viktor has no more kibbles, the dogs only eat stale bread: they will starve to death!

We want to help them by sending  2 400 kg of kibble as an emergency.

If the objective is not reached, we will not be able to pay the carrier, the truck's departure will be cancelled.

100% transparency guaranteed

1. Viktor no longer has any kibbles for street dogs, they mainly eat stale bread!

###
In Macedonia, street dogs are everywhere... Every day, Viktor feeds more than 30 dogs in the city of Veles alone, who have to face a precarious life...

###
Left abandoned, street dogs take shelter as they can, but have many difficulties in finding food...

###
Viktor does his best to improve the comfort of street dogs on a daily basis, but has very few resources....

###
Crna lives on the streets of Veles: suffering from a skin disease, she is also pregnant... Viktor wanted to neuter her before she gives birth to her puppies, but hasn't been able to raise the money needed for the surgery... Soon, he won't even be able to feed her at all!

###
Bambi was just a young puppy when she appeared on the streets of Veles 3 months ago. She has managed to survive until now thanks to the food Viktor brings every day... but cannot survive on bread only

###
A street dog for several years, Happy is fed every day by Viktor, whose presence means a lot to him...

###
A street dog, Mila was neutered thanks to Victor's intervention, and is one of the dogs he feeds every day

###
A street dog for a long time, Buli is regularly fed by Viktor, who has also been in charge of her neutering. She relies on his visits to eat

On May 29th, we went along Viktor through the city to meet the dogs he cares for. He then had only 150 kg of kibbles in stock, for which he had not yet paid the invoice....

We stayed in touch with Viktor after our visit: on June 4th, he only had 50 kg of kibble left. Viktor is forced to keep them for the weakest, and can only distribute stale bread to other dogs

Every day, Viktor walks the streets to meet the dozens of stray dogs who have nowhere else to go, and to distribute food to them. Whether they have been wandering for a long time, or newly abandoned, it is not easy for street dogs to find food on their own: the food brought by Viktor are the only source of nourishment for about forty of them....

But the kibble stock is almost gone, Victor can only provide stale bread or leftovers of sandwiches bought at low cost in a local bakery. During our visit on May 29th, there were only 150 kg of kibble left, which dropped to 50 kg on June 4th.... Viktor keeps them for the weakest dogs: "I give them what I can" he simply explains.

2. With the hot season coming, the dogs dumped at the landfill will get intoxicated or starve to death if Viktor cannot feed them!

###
The landfill on the outskirts of the city is a well-known place to abandon dogs : more than 40 strays are permanently there, new ones regularly appear...

###
All are affected by scabies, and live in very harsh conditions. Mostly abused in the past, and left to die in the dump, they are also frightened by the human presence, but still waiting for Victor's visits

###
When they have nothing else, dogs are forced to feed on the putrefied waste from the landfill... The remains of animals dumped from the adjacent slaughterhouse, which can lead to serious poisoning and contamination, are their first choice

###
During our visit, the temperature was already 28°C: the dogs were trying to hide from the sun as best they could, in the shade of the rubbish...

###
Frightened by our unusual presence, most of the dogs we saw there kept their distance, despite Viktor's reassuring words

###
Recently dumped at the landfill, this dog is frightened and hungry, but still healthy for the moment. However, Viktor knows that he will barely be recognizable in a few weeks from now .....

Three times a week, Viktor goes to the landfill on the outskirts of the city to feed the dogs who, unintendedly, are forced to live there. Thrown here like simple pieces of trash for the most part, they lead a difficult life: all have scabies, have very little interaction with men, and struggle to eat among the garbage spilled around them.

Unfortunately, a lot of waste is already rotting when it reaches the landfill, and this is aggravated when the hot season begins: temperature was already 28°C at the time of our visit. If Viktor doesn't find kibble quickly, the dogs will starve to death or get intoxicated!

3. The most vulnerable ones were rescued by Viktor: safe from the street, but not from hunger, they need kibble!

###
At his place, Viktor currently has 30 dogs, all of them sheltered because they were not in a position to survive on the street alone. Due to lack of space, he also pays boarding for about ten additional dogs each month, but they all rely on him to eat.

###
The living conditions that Viktor is able to provide are precarious, but better than the street for injured or sick dogs...

###
Dumped on the street a few days ago while she was about to give birth, Faith was too scared to let her babies come out ... Viktor accompanied her throughout this ordeal, which lasted several days, and has been sheltering her since

###
Faith eventually gave birth to 6 puppies : the first one was stillborn, but the other five are doing well for the moment, and owe their salvation to Viktor

###
Maza was only 4 months old when Victor found her on the street: she had a broken hip and couldn't walk at all. She had to have several surgeries but managed to walk again. Viktor pays for her boarding every month to keep her safe.

###
Blacky suffered from very advanced scabies when Viktor found him, had nearly no fur left and was very weak. Small in size, he is one of 30 dogs that Viktor hosts directly in his home.

###
Viktor crossed paths with Sidney while he was still in high school: he took care of her in the schoolyard for several years. He could not abandon her when he left the institution, and took her with him. He now pays the boarding so that she can be accommodated and protected.

###
Abused by his former owners, Mecho was rescued by Viktor in May, and sheltered in boarding. Mecho is an old and very big dog, but his boarding costs have only been paid for a short time : Viktor is doing everything possible to get him adopted as soon as possible....

###
Sharko narrowly escaped euthanasia thanks to Viktor's intervention: accused of biting a man, he was impounded and condemned to be killed. Viktor pays monthly boarding to keep him safe, and Sharko has never bit anyone since.....

Animal lover since childhood, Viktor now hosts thirty dogs at his place : a number that changes regularly, which has almost doubled in the past...

To earn a living, Viktor works in a canine boarding house: an undeniable advantage that allows him to place certain dogsthere when they are too weak to survive on the streets, and too big to live at his place. However, Viktor has to pay a monthly rent for each of them, and remains their only food provider.

Especially fragile, these dogs will no longer have any kibbles once the remaining 50 kg at Viktor are gone : what will they become?

4. If we don't reach the target, dogs won't receive any food

A failed collection on Animal Webaction

We can come into action, we have already booked a truck and pallets, but we have to pay it before June 11th

If the collection fails, we will not be able to pay, the departure of the truck will be cancelled and none of the collected kibbles will be delivered...

If the collection fails, we will refund all donors.

5. Viktor doesn't have enough resources to buy kibbles, and his calls for help don't work!

With his income, Viktor is able to cover 30% of the needs for the dogs he cares for, but cannot go beyond that... Very often, he travels to local bakeries and shops to collect unsold goods at low cost, mainly bread....

Very often, Viktor is forced to buy kibbles on credit, but his supplier knows it: he refuses to deliver new kibbles as long as there are unpaid invoices left!

Viktor not only invests his time in feeding abandoned dogs, but also in finding food to give them... He himself affords 30% of the food needed for all the dogs he feeds, but his income does not allow him to buy more.

Because he has no other option, and his calls for help do not allow him to buy kibbles, Viktor walks around local shops and markets to collect or buy some leftovers, especially old bread, at a low price. An unsuitable food for dogs, that comes in quantities largely insufficient for their needs.

6. As a committed activist, Viktor is doing everything possible to make the situation of dogs in Macedonia known, but no international foundation intervenes.

A committed and recognized activist, Viktor spoke to 300 people at the last edition of Engage, an event dedicated to social activism in May. Viktor then illustrated the theme "When the state fails, citizens take over", illustrating it with his actions for Macedonian dogs

###
At only 21 years old, Viktor already has nearly 10 years of activism behind him...

Involved in animal protection since his youth, Viktor has already rescued nearly a thousand of animals into his home, and is making a real difference on the ground. Every day, he seeks to reach a wider audience to raise awareness about the animal cause, but also to obtain a real change in the situation of stray dogs in Macedonia.

Viktor not only feeds and cares for stray dogs, but also spays them and gets them adopted, thus making a significant contribution to the management of stray dogs to overcome a deficient policy across the whole country.

7. A small French association tries to help Viktor, but its resources are very limited, it cannot buy kibbles!

The Woolly Woofters association tries to help Viktor in his fight as best possible, but has few resources... It is impossible for her to buy more than a few bags

From France, Linda Renton manages the Woolly Woofters association, to help animals in need around the world "We give of our time, we raise funds to pay for transport, food, treatments, spay" sums up Linda. Most of the funds collected come from the sale of creations made by the members of the association: knitted objects, paintings, and even plants of all kinds.

But the association generates little money, and supports several rescuers, particularly in Macedonia and Bosnia: " We can't cover all of Viktor's costs by all means, we don't cover anywhere near what he needs."

Feeling helpless, Linda is the one who contacted us in the first place to help Viktor: "I just don't know what the answer is in Macedonia. There won't have a shelter big enough to put all the dogs! Many thanks in advance for any help you can give to help the street dogs."

8. In Macedonia, stray dogs are subjected to atrocities, both from the state itself and from local people

Regularly, Viktor is confronted with poisoned dogs across the city, a common practice in Macedonia... And one more reason to make sure that street dogs have enough to eat, to avoid consuming poisoned food

With an estimated population of 1 million street dogs, Macedonia regularly carries out mass extermination campaigns aimed at "cleaning the streets", at least temporarily. The last nationwide campaign in 2017 was particularly violent and led to numerous protests, including international ones. The most common method remains poisoning, which leads to slow agony (sometimes several days) for the affected dogs.

Beyond national measures, the treatment of dogs on a smaller scale also remains very harsh. Many municipalities practice poisoning on their own initiative, and the inhabitants themselves are often hostile to street dogs. Carried out with impunity, acts of cruelty perpetrated by individuals are numerous (acts of torture, strangulation, wild abandonment, etc.) and unpunished.

9. What will the 2 400 kg collected be used for ?

This collection is organized by the French association Woolly Woofters . The 2 400 kg of kibble collected will be delivered to Viktor in Macedonia to feed the 150 dogs he cares for throughout the city.
