1. About twenty street dogs depend on Nassima to eat every day, but she no longer has any kibbles to give them!
Caramel and Zwyn were discovered a week before our visit on July 6th, visibly emaciated and weakened: Nassima has fed them every day since we passed by, but she has almost no kibbles left
Nassima has also been going daily to a pack of 6 dogs, to give them food. Miloute is one of them, and relies heavily on this distribution
Fed for 6 months by Nassima, Loulou has always known street life. He was only a few weeks old when Nassima first discovered him, and still lives in the same place with his brother Blanco
Azia, Blanco and Kawa are also fed daily by Nassima. Without his help, their only hope is to feed on the garbage cans left in the streets: a random and particularly difficult contribution to this season, the heat making all edible waste rot very quickly
Diabatte has been fed for almost 2 years by Nassima, near the mosque, and relies on her coming
Zrina recognizes the noise of Nassima's car, and goes to meet her every night in the hope of being fed
During our visit, Nassima divided a few kilos of kibbles in order to distribute them to the street dogs who depend on her. But her stock is now nearly used up...
On July 12th, Nassima sent us a picture of the kibbles left at the shelter: only half a bag, which she was about to mix with bread and chicken feet to enrich the rations
At the head of her association for nearly 3 years, Nassima helps street dogs and cats on a daily basis, where several dozen animals depend on her. But she is having increasing difficulties feeding them, and can no longer afford to buy kibbles.
At our request, photographer Lawrence Quammu visited her on July 6th, and accompanied her through the city to the various feeding sites she visits every day.
Without his help, the twenty or so street dogs can only rely on the garbage that line the city: a highly random, and very dangerous food source at this season, where all organic waste rot very quickly
2. At the shelter, Nassima hosts about twenty more dogs: they will also be left without kibbles soon
Within her shelter, Nassima now has 17 dogs, she still had 22 not so long ago
With nowhere to go when his former mistress died, Badjar was taken into the shelter with the two other dogs who lived with him
Kura comes from a litter of 4 puppies, born on the street. Kura's mother was considered aggressive because she was trying to protect her youngs, and was threatened with them on the street: all were taken to safety at the shelter
Placed in the shelter for a temporary period, Luiza was finally abandoned and has been living there for more than a year
Left in front of the shelter door when she was only 5 weeks old, Coca was taken care of by Nassima who did not hesitate for a second
Abandoned at a very young age, Ziggy and her two sisters were found by a passer-by, who took them to Nassima's shelter. Since then, Ziggy's two sisters have been adopted, but she has not yet received a request
Kura's brother, Bronzo has been at the shelter since he was a pup, and probably wouldn't have survived if Nassima had left him to his fate on the street
To make dry food last longer, Nassima buys chicken paws and stale bread at a lower cost, which she makes into soup for dogs. But without kibbles, this diet is far too poor for them!
Nassima also has a low-capacity shelter, which allows her to host the most vulnerable dogs, who could not survive on their own in the streets. She now hosts 17 dogs.
"Originally, I just thought I would take the dogs in to treat them and sterilize them, then put them back on the street. But I can't force myself to do it" explained Nassima, who knows how difficult street life can be for dogs.
3. Nassima has already invested all her savings in the shelter, and puts most of her salary into it. Her calls for help stay vain, but she can't do more than this!
"I have no more savings, I used everything for the shelter," explained Nassima. Without savings, she also uses 60% of her income to care for the animals at the shelter and on the streets
In addition to the 40 dogs she takes care of, Nassima also hosts 30 cats at the shelter, and feeds several colonies in the streets. She can no longer take on this task alone!
For several months, Nassima has been calling for help on her networks to alert people about her situation, but has obtained few results...
Obtained in dribs and drabs, the few donations received by Nassima in recent months are far from meeting the needs of the animals in her care
In three years, Nassima has invested her entire savings to meet the needs of the animals she cares for. A decision she does not regret, but which now forces her to ask for help, because she no longer has a solution to face the expenses that do not run out....
"My salary is not enough, and people don't keep their promises," she explains, disappointed that promises of support have not been sufficiently followed up by action over the years.
Although she hates being in debt and does everything to avoid it, Nassima is already a few hundred euros in debt, and dedicates 60% of her salary to animals.
She needs our help!
4. If we don't reach the target, dogs won't receive any food

We can take action, we have already booked a truck and pallets, but we have to pay it before July 16th.
If the collection fails, we will not be able to pay, the departure of the truck will be cancelled and none of the collected kibbles will be delivered...
If the collection fails, we will refund all donors.
5. In a few months, Nassima may not even be able to pay for the lease of the shelter, the dogs may be out on the street!
The land occupied by dogs (but also cats) taken care of by Nassima does not belong to her: a rent must be paid each month to be able to stay there
The lease will expire in a few months, Nassima is not yet sure that she will be able to renew it. "If the rent goes up, clearly I won't be able to keep it" she explained. She is looking to set up another shelter by then, but has no resources, and her appeals are not working
Nassima is doing everything she can to manage the situation as best she can, but needs support to continue fighting for animals
Set up on land that Nassima rents every month, the shelter is now threatened: the lease will end in November, Nassima doubts she will be able to renew it.
In anticipation, she is looking to relocate the shelter, but for the moment it is only an unrealistic hope... All her savings have already been placed in the shelter, so she has no money to invest in buying land or building new pens.
The appeal she launched for the occasion has so far only raised 50€....
6. Only a French association supports Nassima, but does not have the means to help her buy kibble
Since 2017, the French association BEPA has visited the shelter of Nassima once or twice a year, bringing products for animals with each trip, mainly for medical care and antiparasitic treatments.
But the association already carries out many actions in favour of the animal cause, and supports several other shelters, it is impossible for it to finance Nassima's actions outside her visits, and it can in no way intervene for food!
7. Rejected and slaughtered, Moroccan street dogs live on probation
Petitions follow one another to ask the authorities to put an end to the slaughterings carried out throughout the country, in vain
With an estimated population of around 2 million street dogs, Morocco has been carrying out mass slaughter operations at regular intervals for decades.
Dogs are poisoned with strychnine, or shot with a gun, usually in the spring: before the arrival of tourists, or any other important international event.
Spaying programmes have already been carried out in some Moroccan cities: unfortunately, they have so far always been abandoned, as their results take too long to be seen.
In Essaouira, the last slaughter was in June: Nassima hopes that no new operation will be carried out...
8. Nassima offers them a true hope, we must help her to carry on
Found by a German tourist with a severe case of leishmaniasis, Serius was treated by Nassima for months. She fought to allow him to heal, and to take all the necessary steps to ensure that he would be adopted. He has since joined his adopter in Germany
Cleo, a street dog, was adopted in Germany too, thanks to Nassima who took her in and cared for her for several months, and carried out all the procedures so that she could be adopted abroad
Locked in the pound, Happy was rescued by Nassima, who not only hosted him, but also allowed his adoption in France

Despite the difficulties encountered, Nassima keeps smiling, and her determination remains intact thanks to the results obtained. "It's not easy, but when you do something out of love, you forget all the suffering" she says.
On a personal level, she hopes that this collection will help her for dog food, but also bring additional visibility to her cause "For people who have time, we are in desperate need of volunteers".
On a larger scale, she wants everyone to understand that it is necessary to " spay or neuter stray dogs, because it is the only way to put an end to slaughter ".
9. Thanks to our logistics centre in Morocco, we can take action rapidly !
If the collection succeeds, the kibble will leave directly from our logistics centre in Morocco. So we can act very quickly, and help Nassima to have kibbles for the dogs in the shelter and on the streets!
10. What will the 2000 kg of kibbles collected be used for ?
This collection is organized by the association 4 Pattes Mogador, chaired by Nassima. The 2000 kilos of kibbles collected will be delivered to Nassima to feed the 17 dogs hosted at the shelter, and the 20 or so street dogs fed daily by Nassima.
