Following an alarming SOS, we went to Daniela's shelter on July 24th to see the drama unfolding there...
1. Daniela is out of kibbles for her 400 dogs, they don't get to eat every day!
"We live from day to day! We buy according to the donations we receive, there are days when we have no food to give them! I can't stand to see them waiting to be fed..." Daniela sadly explains to us
At the shelter for 6 months, Prințesa has not yet been cured of a very virulent skin disease, which she will not be able to fight without kibbles
Florica was seriously injured and had to undergo an amputation when she was hit by a truck. Despite her handicap, she is currently able to win against the pack, but is more vulnerable
Abandoned in the middle of the street, Bella can't eat in front of the pack's dominant dogs.... Daniela is forced to keep her away, so that she can also get to eat something
Paralyzed from the rear axle following a car accident, My love is kept in Daniela's house, just like other disabled dogs. The shelter is her only solution!
Victim of a car accident and left for dead, Gogu remained lying on the ground and injured for several days without anyone helping him. Worms had already infested his wounds when Daniela stepped in. Gogu has serious after-effects and cannot move normally, the shelter is his only option
Unfortunately, Dylan was found in a ditch after being hit by a car and lost a leg in the accident. He was only 3 months old at the time, and spent most of his life at the shelter
Threatened by the dogcatchers, Bobiță tried to hide in the streets by any means possible, before Daniela picked him up and took him to the shelter
Vulpița and Sprâncenata were only a few weeks old when they joined the shelter. Sprâncenata has overcome parvovirose there, but they are now threatened by the lack of kibble
Since our visit, several days have passed without the dogs having food to eat. Daniela managed to buy a few bags at the beginning of the week, but there was already nothing left of it on August 1st...
We went to Daniela's shelter on July 24, after receiving an alarming SOS. For weeks, Daniela has been struggling to find food for dogs, who don't eat every day.
"We live from day to day! We buy according to the donations we receive, there are days when we have no food to give them! I can't stand to see them waiting to be fed..." explained Daniela, who feels overwhelmed.
Following our visit, our agent Georgian told us: "Considering the situation, the dogs are barely on their minimum weight and overall in decent condition. They try hard to not starve them. These guys need help!"
2. Daniela is multiplying the calls for help, but they've all failed so far
For several days now, Daniela has been sending SOS, which she has been distributing to her own network and to various animal protection groups
But her calls for help are not paying off, Daniela has only received a few bags so far, which represents a paltry amount compared to the 150 kg needed every day to feed each dog to his hunger....
For weeks, the situation has been worsening, Daniela has not been able to get out of it and was already launching SOS in June
At the shelter, the shortage of food has been raging for many weeks now. Only the intervention of the two small associations that support the shelter has made it possible to avoid the worst so far, but neither they nor Daniela can buy kibble anymore.
"I have no choice, nothing! I can't wait for them to kill each other with hunger, I've struggled too much for them! We have helped many but ourselves no one! " says Daniela.
3. Two small associations are helping Daniela, but they have already done everything they could: they are asking us to intervene urgently!

Daniela's shelter is supported by two foreign charities, which support her as much as they can. But both are small, they have already struggled to prevent the situation from escalating in recent months, and cannot keep up.
Steffi from the Pfotenfreunde Bayern e.V. association is the one who first alerted us, seeing that they could not continue without help: "Cleaning up, feeding, take to doctor, feed other wild Dogs, take all the time the two People have. Dogs are hungry and starve. We don´t know, how to get on. We are at the end of our power and strength. Please, please, help us"
4. If we don't reach the target, dogs won't receive any food

We can take action, we have already booked a truck and pallets, but we have to pay it before August 9th.
If the collection fails, we will not be able to pay, the departure of the truck will be cancelled and none of the collected kibbles will be delivered...
If the collection fails, we will refund all donors.
5. Without a volunteer or employee, Daniela and her husband are alone to take care of the 400 dogs, they are exhausted
Daniela and her husband share their 36 m2 house with dozens of dogs, including the most vulnerable ones
Most of the dogs are hosted on the land adjacent to the property, which is equipped with fences and makeshift shelters
Reluctantly, Daniela stopped rescuing new dogs as the situation is so critical, she can only notice the distress of those who remain on the street....
Located 45 minutes from the nearest town, the shelter is too isolated for Daniela to find volunteers. Even with the prospect of a small cash consideration, no one wants to take care of the shelter.
Daniela and her husband are therefore alone to manage the 400 dogs, with all that this entails. Maintenance, feeding, permanent surveillance to avoid fighting because there are not enough pens, veterinary visits etc.... "They have absolutely no time to breathe or organize any fund raiser" Georgian observed during his visit.
Exhausted and overwhelmed, they can no longer take in dogs until the situation improves. Daniela is as much affected by the distress of the shelter as by the one of dogs left to their fate in the streets...
6. All their savings have already been invested in the shelter, all they have left is debts!
For 10 years, Daniela and her husband worked abroad, and set money aside. When they found Gogu, the first dog rescued in an accident, they thought they were in a strong enough position to manage their own shelter.
But the costs involved in managing 400 dogs exceeded their expectations, and all their savings were guzzled. Both stopped working to take care of the dogs, their only resources now come from the sale of vegetables they grow themselves. A meagre livelihood, which does not allow them to manage everything.
"From our own pocket we can not buy anything for them because all the money we had collected over 10 years working abroad I have already consumed! Now we, from what we sell (we have a garden and a greenhouse with vegetables) can barely pay the bills" Daniela explains.
7. Inconvenienced by dogs, neighbours make numerous complaints. If the shelter does not move before September 15th, the dogs will taken to the public shelter
With the help of Pfotenfreunde Bayern e.V., a new plot of land was obtained to move the shelter. But Daniela and her husband are alone to arrange it, and cannot take care of it since they are so consumed by the lack of food
If Daniela is unable to arrange the new land and move the dogs by September 15, they will all be taken to the public shelter!
Set up on land too close to other houses, the shelter is a nuisance for neighbours located nearby. Inconvenienced by the dogs, they filed multiple complaints with the authorities, resulting in several fines that only increase Daniela's difficulties.
Worse, they are now under the yoke of an eviction notice, and must have left the premises by September 15th: "If I can't move them they said they would make me a criminal case and they would take my dogs to the public shelter where after 14 days if no one adopts them they will be euthanized" explains Daniela.
Thanks to the support of foreign associations, a new land has been found, but there is not enough time to secure it before having to move all the dogs. Overwhelmed by the constant search for food, Dianiela and her husband are unable to cope.
8. Daniela fights body and soul, but gradually loses hope

Touched by Gogul's distress and suffering when she found him dying, Daniela has since that day chosen to make animal protection her fight, against all odds. A cause she shares with her husband, who is struggling like her to overcome the bad times they are currently going through.
"They are strong and determined to help them all, each and every dog that joins their pack regardless of the injury state of the dog. They are trying to do their best and they seem to love each dog. The dogs also love them"said our agent George after his visit.
But the current situation is overwhelming, and the time decisive to turn the tide, they need our help to continue.
