Animal Webaction visited the site 12 September 2019 and confirms the situation described below.

In Spain, this shelter can no longer feed its 80 dogs!

In a few days, Miguel will be out of kibble for the dogs at the shelter.

Weakened by a life of abuse and disease, they are too fragile to survive without kibble....

Overwhelmed by the costs, Miguel can no longer cope, and is preparing to shut the shelter down.

He is now fighting to ensure that all dogs are adopted before closing.

It will take several months, Miguel asks us to help him feed the dogs during this difficult time.

We would like to send 3900 kg of kibble as a matter of urgency.

100% transparency guaranteed.

1. Without kibble, the many sick dogs at Miguel's shelter will not be able to survive!

$$$
Suffering from a parasitic disease and severe digestive problems, Bully's condition has deteriorated despite Miguel's care. He passed away in early October

$$$
Cuqui suffered from a disease that prevented the proper coagulation of his blood, and died from a hemorrhage earlier on this year

$$$
Affected by leishmaniasis, an incurable parasitic disease that can be fatal, Machin died as a result of kidney and liver failure

Palmero was taken off the street thanks to Miguel's intervention. He suffers from leishmaniasis like many of the other residents of the shelter

Amelie was found pregnant, wandering in the countryside in the middle of a road, most likely abandoned overnight, and disoriented. She also suffers from leishmaniasis, a parasitic disease that cannot be cured, and of which only the symptoms can be treated

Abandoned by the river, Caco was also injured when he was found. Treated and cared for at the shelter, Caco is 10 years old, and also suffers from leishmaniasis

On October 09, Miguel sent us this photo of the food left at the shelter. Enough to last a week at most

Among the dogs hosted at Miguel's shelter, only a few do not require specific medical care. Former hunting dogs for the most part, they have suffered abuse, malnutrition, and are also at the mercy of disease...

Last May, the Animal Webaction community mobilized to send 3600 kg of kibbles to the shelter, but this stock will soon be used up, the dogs can't stay without food!

2. Overwhelmed by the costs, Miguel can no longer pay the rent, even less the food

In order for Miguel's shelter to exist, he must rent a plot of land at a price of 600€ per month: a very high sum, which the owner wishes to increase further

Every month, nearly a ton of kibbles are needed to feed the dogs in the shelter, a budget that Miguel cannot afford

In addition to the expenses related to food (nearly a ton of kibbles are needed each month), tremendous medical care and treatments, and the maintenance of the shelter, Miguel also has to face significant fixed charges.

Established on rented land, the shelter thus requires 600€ per month just for the rent, a sum that Miguel is struggling to raise, and which is about to increase again!

Already overwhelmed by the costs on all sides, he simply cannot buy kibble again.

3. The shelter's financial situation is so critical that Miguel is forced to consider a closure

80 dogs still depend on Miguel for their survival, and there is no way he will abandon them. But he cannot deny the financial difficulties that are accumulating....

Starved, abused and abandoned for the most part, the dogs Miguel rescues require a lot of care, time and resources, Miguel can no longer assume this alone

On October 5, Miguel officially announced the upcoming closure of the shelter, which will take several months: Miguel will not close until all the dogs have been fostered and/or adopted. They need kibbles until then!

Miguel has been fighting for the shelter for many years, but the current situation is so critical that he must take action. "There are many aspects to consider, such a lack of partners, volunteers, huge financial expenses that need to be covered, and we can't cope..." explains Miguel.

Up against it, he is therefore preparing to close the shelter, but this will only happen when all the dogs have found a new place to stay. It will therefore take several months, during which Miguel must put all his energy into caring for the dogs and finding adopters.

We must ensure that dogs can eat enough during this period. "Keep in mind that we still need help, we still have our dogs," Miguel pleads, knowing that making 80 dogs be adopted will be a tough fight.

4. The French association that supports him is striving to avoid the worst, by taking as many dogs as possible in: caring for the food on top of it is too much, they asks us to intervene

The association Celtiques Lévriers et Cie has been a loyal supporter of Miguel for many years, but does not have the resources to provide for the shelter's needs

Its team is now supporting Miguel as best possible, by trying to encourage a maximum of adoptions, and by taking several dogs in

For several years, the association Celtiques Lévriers et Cie has been supporting Miguel as best it can, and has already helped him with food in the past.

But in these difficult times, it must focus its efforts and limited financial resources on adopting and repatriating as many dogs as possible before the situation escalates.

"The future is dark and uncertain, but we must hold on for them," says Sandrine, Vice-President of the association, who hopes that we can join forces to avoid the worst for the dogs in the shelter.

5. We want to protect them from hunger in the coming months

Found alone and wandering when she was still a puppy, Habana has been cared for at the shelter since then

Muffy was a street dog when he was discovered. With leishmaniasis, he could not have survived outdoors without care

Abandoned in an industrial area, Bandolero was certainly used as a hunting dog, his owner got rid of him when he no longer wanted him

Rescued from the galgueros, Darcatan did not have an easy life before the shelter, and remains fearful. He also suffers from leishmaniasis: if his condition is stabilized by treatment, he remains vulnerable

Because his master thought he was a bad hunter, Lunero had to die... Fortunately, Miguel was able to intervene before the galguero carried out his threat

Arrived at the shelter when he was only a few months old, Lumiere could not manage without the shelter

6. If we don't reach the target, dogs won't receive any food

A failed collection on Animal Webaction

We can take action, we have already booked a truck and pallets, but we have to pay it before October 15th.

If the collection fails, we will not be able to pay, the departure of the truck will be cancelled and none of the collected kibbles will be delivered...

If the collection fails, we will refund all donors.

7. The town hall refuses to help Miguel, international foundations do not intervene

Miguel's shelter is private and does not receive any subsidies from the municipality

In Spain, and particularly in this area, abandonment and stray dogs are a real societal problem, especially related to hunting and its practices. Although the shelter is a response to this problem, its usefulness is not recognized by the municipality, which already funds the municipal pound...

The shelter therefore does not receive any subsidies, and no foundation agrees to intervene. The only association invested alongside Miguel does not have enough resources: Miguel can no longer continue like this.

8. Miguel devotes his life to the rescue of galgos, and needs support doing so

When Miguel started the shelter, his work schedule allowed him to easily organize himself between his professional activities and the tasks necessary for the shelter. But this is no longer the case, Miguel must nowadays comply with other schedules that make the management of daily life very complicated.

Although he manages to get help from a few volunteers, the burden remains very heavy to bear, and adds to the economic difficulties encountered.

Miguel has dedicated his entire life to the animal cause. He is very humble and usually tries to get by on his own, but is motivated by a love of animals first and foremost. For their sake, he asks us to support him to buy kibble.

9. Spanish greyhounds (or galgos) suffer terrible abuse in Spain: Miguel's shelter offers them a second chance!

Miguel's shelter is located in the south of Spain

In Spain, galgos are locked in their owners' basements and only go out to hunt.

They are beaten if their efforts are inconclusive, barely fed, and thrown into the street when they no longer run fast enough to win hunting contests.

Exhausted and abused, dogs are often too weak to survive alone in the wild.

Miguel takes them to his shelter: he heals their often deep wounds, feeds them, and offers them a quality of life that dogs have never known before. Unfortunately, the care of his protégés is expensive: Miguel can no longer afford to buy kibbles!

10. What will the 3900 kilos of kibble collected be used for?

This collection is organized by the association Cambiando Miradas. The 3900 kg collected will be delivered to Miguel to feed the 80 dogs hosted at the shelter.
