Animal Webaction visited the site 06 October 2019 and confirms the situation described below.

In Bosnia, this shelter has no more kibbles for its 90 dogs, they will starve to death!

We went on the spot on October 6th, following Nejira's plea for help.

While diseases are raging at the shelter, the stock of kibble is almost gone.

Ruined by medical emergencies, Nejira cannot buy any more, and her SOSs are not working.

Winter is coming, and the dogs have been malnourished for a month, we have to help them.

We would like to send 2880 kg of kibble as a matter of urgency.

100% transparency guaranteed.

1. Diseases are raging at the pound, several dogs have already died. Without kibbles, the others won't be able to survive!

$$$
Suffering from a tumor that treatments failed to cure, Holly died a few weeks ago

$$$
Affected by parvovirus, a highly contagious disease affecting only puppies, Olivia did not survive

$$$
Blacky, who was also affected by parvovirus, was too weak to fight and did not survive

$$$
Boy was still very young when he died of the disease....

###
Used for hunting, abused and abandoned because she was not efficient enough, Daf is still weak and is slowly improving the pound, she needs kibbles!

###
Abandoned by his owner who could no longer take care of him, Sari does not manage to gain weight at the pound, and will not keep up with the food shortage

###
The few kibbles left at the shelter during our visit on October 6th have been gone for several days now. The volunteers have managed to buy a few bags since then, but they will only last until October 20th

Volunteers do their best to look after the dogs at the pound, but new arrivals are constant, they cannot prevent the development of diseases: "New dogs come in all of the time, because this is a public shelter. On every call workers must go and catch dog from street, woods, etc..."

As a result, diseases remain very present in the pound, and are encouraged by malnutrition. Weakened, dogs are more sensitive to diseases and viruses, and do not have enough strength to survive them...

2. Medical emergencies have drained Nejira's resources, she can't buy anymore kibble

Hit by a car this summer, Stella was suffering from broken bones and serious injuries when she was rescued. She has been operated on and is now in Germany

Suffering from a skin disease, Denny needed a long treatment, and cannot return to the shelter: in addition to her treatments, Nejira also has to pay pension for her every month

Affected by parvovirus, Garo was lucky enough to survive thanks to the treatment, and now lives in a pension

###
Very thin at the pound, Bola suffered from systematic vomiting and could no longer feed herself. Shortly after our visit, the volunteers took her to the vet, and now pay for her pension

###
Nejira says she is afraid about the current situation, and tired, but knows that her commitment and that of the few other volunteers is the only thing that can keep the dogs alive

In recent months, there has been a steady stream of medical emergencies: accidents, tumours or parvovirus... emergencies that only Nejira and the few other volunteers take care of!

Beyond medical treatment, Nejira must now pay the pension fees for several dogs, far too weak to return to the pound.

She has no more money to pay for the kibbles, which will be over in a few days only...

3. Calls for help remain vain, volunteers are unable to find new donors

Despite frequent calls for help, volunteers have enormous difficulties in raising funds for ongoing expenses: not only kibbles, but also pension costs for the most vulnerables, which they can no longer face alone....

"Month after month, it is getting harder as always the same people are donating money for food, it seems as if they get tired of it, so very often it comes to begging for it. I am concerned about how to find and get food for all those dogs, if we don't get food from this appeal, the dogs will go hungry," Nejira explains.

4. For a month now, dogs have been malnourished, their health is deteriorating: they need kibbles!

###
Volunteers have been struggling for more than a month to feed the 90 dogs in the pound, and do not always have enough kibbles

###
To fill the void, dry bread and bones are bought at low cost and distributed to dogs, but it is insufficient and too low in nutrients!

###
Some dogs are losing weight, others are suffering from diarrhea or develop skin problems related to poor quality food....

Last July, the Animal Webaction community rallied to send 2160 kg of kibble to the pound, but this stock has been used up since September.

Volunteers have done their best to manage on their own, but they can't: bread and bones are distributed because there are not always enough kibbles, and the ones they manage to buy are of poor quality...

Dogs already have skin disorders, as well as digestive problems, some are thin: they need kibbles to face winter.

5. The town hall cooperates as much as possible, but has only a very small budget, it cannot buy kibble

###
To maintain the pound and its 90 dogs, the town hall covers the salaries of two employees, but cannot do more...

###
For nearly 3 years, Nejira and a handful of volunteers have been doing their utmost to support the pound, and cover the costs that the town hall cannot cover, but it is an endless struggle that they can no longer win...

For three years now, the town hall and the employees of the pound have been doing their utmost to move forward hand in hand with the volunteers, and to ensure the best care for the dogs. But the municipal budget at its disposal is extremely low, and only allows for the payment of employees.

All medical care and food is entirely dependent on Nejira and other volunteers, who are no longer able to cope with it...

6. If we don't reach the target, dogs won't receive any food

A failed collection on Animal Webaction

We can take action, we have already booked a truck and pallets, but we have to pay it before October 21st.

If the collection fails, we will not be able to pay, the departure of the truck will be cancelled and none of the collected kibbles will be delivered...

If the collection fails, we will refund all donors.

7. Located in the mountains, the pound is a very cold place, dogs will not be able to survive the winter without kibble

Set up in a former military base located in the mountains, the pound is a place where it is very cold in winter, dogs must be able to eat enough to fight the cold

###
Pallets and makeshift kennels were installed by the volunteers, who also bring straw in winter so that the dogs can warm up. But without food it will not be enough....

Located in a former military base in a mountainous area, the pound is exposed to extreme cold in winter.

Pallets, makeshift kennels and straw are all elements brought by volunteers to allow dogs to warm up, but this is not enough without kibbles!

8. Only a German association supports Nejira, but cannot do more than it already does

From Germany, the association Wir fuer Pfoten e.V. supports Nejira in her fight to the best of her ability, especially with regard to adoptions, boarding fees and medical care.

But it is impossible for them to meet the pound's needs for kibbles, and no other foundation agrees to intervene...

9. We want to save them

###
Reported because he was wandering the streets and bothering shopkeepers, Korčak has only been at the pound for 2 months, and is quite frightened

###
Abandoned following the death of her former master, Šapica owes her survival to the pound and the volunteers' care

###
Found on the street, Lena was extremely skinny and scared, she is improving at the pound

###
Bela was abandoned by her former owner following a move, and is unable to adjust to life in the pound.... She will not be able to survive a shortage of kibble

###
Born in the pound; Lija has not known any other life so far, and cannot manage on her own

###
Abandoned at the pound because he was aging, Bruni is weak and has no teeth left. It is impossible for him to eat dry food, so volunteers have to finance special food to ensure his survival... an impossible task while they can no longer buy dry food

###
Abandoned, Garo was skinny and hungry when he arrived at the pound. He has managed to recover, but will not hold another dearth period

###
Abandoned on a dump site, Fifi was skeletal and very frightened. She has only been in the shelter for 6 months, and is less than a year old

10. Nejira, a real guardian angel for the dogs !

###

Thanks to Nejira and her volunteer companions, the dogs in Zunovnica's pound have been living in much better conditions for the past 3 years, but this is the result of a long struggle, and requires a significant sacrifice from them.

Nejira uses a large part of her salary to finance the dogs' needs, and spends all her free time with them or seeking help to support them.

Very anxious about the current situation, she fears that her efforts will be wasted if she cannot find solutions to find kibble...

11. In Bosnia, street dogs are tortured and killed illegally...

Zunovnica's pound is located in central Bosnia

A petition launched in September 2019, reporting illegal practices in and around Sarajevo

In 1995, when the war in Bosnia ended, the streets were full of stray dogs: the crisis and famine no longer allowed the inhabitants to support them.. A dark period then began for street dogs that had proliferated massively: harassment, torture and violent mass slaughter had become the daily lot of abandoned dogs.

In 2009, in order to stop such a massacre, the government enforced a law prohibiting the capture and murder of dogs in pounds without prior veterinary advice.

If this law tasted like victory to some, the lure of profit led some private pounds to charge the government for the purchase of phantom equipment.

Today, pounds catch, torture and kill stray dogs illegally in order to collect state subsidies. Corruption is not reported in the media, and private shelters try to save dogs that pass through the nets of illegal pounds...

12. What will the 2880 kg collected be used for ?

This collection is organized by the association Humans foR thEM. The 2880 kilos of food will be delivered to its president Nejira to feed the 90 dogs at Zunovnica's pound.
