Lucky is a fifteen-year-old shetland pony that we got on a cattle fair. He was being sold there by the kilos and was in danger of being slaughtered... We saved him from this sad fate by taking him in.
Lucky is a carrier of piroplasmosis. This potentially fatal disease was transmitted to him by the bite of a tick. Since he got it, he is very tired and has a lot of trouble getting up.
To prevent his health from deteriorating too much, it is essential that Lucky maintains his muscle mass. With daily pellets, he would have the necessary vitamins to fill up on energy and slow down the possible progression of the disease.
We have been able to resume activities with schools, but we won't be able to hold any other events before Christmas!
Faced with reduced means, we had to fall back on more affordable hay, but of lesser quality. Without help or subsidies, times are hard!
