1. In Serbia, Svetlana will soon run out of kibble to feed the 200 dogs in her shelter. They already aren't eating enough, we cannot let them starve!

"There are more and more abandoned dogs, on the streets or in front of our doors... At the same time, there are fewer adoptions, almost none at all. The consequences are that we have many more dogs than we used to, no more room and big difficulties to feed everyone.

Everything we have is spent on food but it's still not enough because there are less donations and help. We fight to stretch the food as much as possible, nothing is thrown away, not a single kibble, but it just seems like it's getting harder and harder. We've only been able to give the dogs full portions twice this month...

Right now we have food left for another three days, with maximum cutting. I can't sleep at night, I often wake up thinking about how to provide for everything. I feel constant pressure and despair related to food and I am afraid that whatever I do, it will not be enough for all of them... I simply can not allow dogs to starve, we need this help badly!"

2. Faced with the lack of kibble, the dogs' health is deteriorating and tensions are rising. Without a solution in sight, Svetlana fears that she will have to put them back on the street...not all will make it.

###

"The consequences of the lack of food are very noticeable, dogs get nervous, their general health is endangered, they become sick...I fight in all ways to always have something to give them, no matter how insufficient it is, but I don't know how much longer I will be able to... The level of difficulty we're experiencing to feed them is unprecedented.

If this campaign fails, I can't imagine what will happen...I might have to close this shelter altogether...The dogs will all end up on the street left to mercy of the fate...I can't even begin to imagine it. All the dogs that are here in the shelter, are here because they were endangered on the street and couldn't stay there, they cannot lose this place! The life of a dog on the street in Serbia is difficult, I wouldn't wish it on the worst man...

Having this collection succeed would save the lives of those who are invisible to the rest of the population, the ones who don't have a voice for themselves. The ones that are small and forgotten, but not irrelevant. Every single one of my dogs' lives is important and worth fighting for... There must be food!"

3. Tuzla was abandoned and left to die with a fractured spine. Fragile and vulnerable, she needs kibble to survive!

###

"Tuzla is an 8-year-old female, I found her left on the street to die near Tuzla city. She was found with fractures of the spine and fire burns. We'll never be able to fully know what kind of hell she survived and what they did to her...

She has difficulty walking and unfortunately there is no possibility of surgery. I'm not sure she will be able to walk for much longer with a spine like this and there's a very slim chance that will get adopted. No one wants an old dog who has difficulty walking...

Tuzla is most likely going to spend the rest of her days with me, she is weak and vulnerable and unable to fend for herself. It's absolutely essential that I find a way to feed her!"

4. Svetlana works 2 jobs and does everything she can to provide for the dogs but her efforts don't suffice. She can no longer buy kibble!

###

"I have two jobs and I give everything I have so that the shelter can keep existing but it's still not enough. Donations organizations and individuals are what make a shelter exist. Unfortunately I think everyone is feeling the effects of the pandemic and donations have become very rare.

There is no money, all accounts are empty. We are faced with a growth of our debt, lack of space and a shortage of food and we're worried that the longer the pandemic lasts, the harder it will be...At this stage I don't know what to do and who to beg to, where to borrow, who to contact for help. I simply don’t see any more options at this point, you're my only hope...Even the smallest donation means a lot to us!"

5. Svetlana isn't asking for money, only kibble to prevent the dogs from starving!

###

"I could never just walk past an animal that needed help. I always tried to save them and help them as much as I could. I started getting involved 10 years ago, helping several shelters in Bosnia, I did sterilization of street dogs, collecting aid and food.

Over time, I looked for a place where I could take care of the most endangered dogs, I found this piece of land and took out a loan to build yards, fences and gates, that's how it all started.  I started out with more donations and fewer dogs, but in a year's time, the dog population in my shelter has gone from 50 to 200...That's how desperate the situation is in this whole region.

I hope that the day will come when people will come to their senses and start caring for their faithful paws. People are the ones who abandoned them and multiplied irresponsibly, people must correct their mistake, and the state must urgently get involved."

6. If this campaign succeeds, Svetlana will not receive any money, but 2 300 kg of kibble, delivered from the Animal Webaction logistics centre in Serbia.

Animal Webaction has a logistic centre directly in Serbia, which enables us to intervene quickly and deliver kibble.

7. Donations aren't coming in and Svetlana's attempts at contacting other organisations for help have failed. This campaign is her last hope to feed the dogs!

"Serbia is not a rich country, many people here have lost their jobs and are left without anything. Dogs are the least of their concern and most people don't understand how much food it takes to feed over 200 dogs either.

I have tried to contact many organizations, all of them are either unable to help, or already helping someone else. Sometimes an organization from the Netherlands helps us in the form of donations and food, but that is only from time to time.

I can only keep trying, in hopes that someone give us a helping hand one day... It will give us the opportunity to keep fighting and keep going for the many dogs that need us."
