Animal Webaction visited the site 05 January 2022 and confirms the situation described below.

1. In Morocco, Rokaya will soon run out of kibble for the 143 dogs at her shelter. They will starve if nobody intervenes!

%%%

"The situation at the shelter is very difficult, the number of dogs has increased, adoptions are still very rare, and donations very few. We do not have the means to cover all the dogs' necessities, starting with food... it's our biggest issue.

I have debts with the food supplier I can't pay off and they won't allow me to buy on credit. Right now I have 5 days' worth of food; I keep thinking about how to gather more but I've exhausted all alternatives, I feel tremendously helpless.

This collection truly is my only hope to feed the dogs because there simply isn't another option. My remaining stock is dangerously low and if I don't find a solution, my dogs' health will be directly affected..."

2. The lack of food prevents Rokaya from continuing rescues and affects her ability to provide for the many fragile dogs living in the shelter.

###

" The lack of ressources affects my ability to care for the dogs that are already at my shelter, which means it also affects my ability to rescue dogs on the outside... I can’t tell you how distressed and hopeless I feel when I see the dogs in the street. Sometimes, I feel I have to bring every abandoned dog to my shelter but I can’t and that makes me feel very guilty.

I have to prioritize the dogs living at the shelter because what I can provide is already barely enough for them... I fear for all of them and for their life, welfare and health. But the most concerning to me are the sick and fragile ones, because without food their condition will quickly deteriorate.

It's winter, it has been raining, the dogs get very dirty from the mud especially the disabled ones who cannot walk properly. We really to secure a new stock of food so the dogs can survive these harsh conditions. I can’t even stand thinking that my dogs are in danger or at risk..."

3. Rokaya found Kima alone and starving in the street. Disabled, her life is now threatened by the lack of kibble.

###

"Kima is 3-year-old female, I found her on the street in a very bad condition, without shelter or a place to stay. She was very weak and had paronychia (nail infection).

Kima is still very weak to this day, she doesn’t move, I keep her with the other disabled dogs in a separate room. She is 100% reliant on me to survive. She needs to be well fed for her health to improve, but overall, she needs it to survive."

4. Declining donations, growing debts... Rokaya's shelter has been permanently affected by the pandemic. She can no longer buy kibble for the dogs.

###

"Before the pandemic, we had a lot of tourists come to Morocco, many of them would come see the shelter in person. We received more donations and also more exposure because these people would talk about our cause to their families and friends.

Back then, I had enough from donations to fund all the costs of the shelter, and of course the number of dogs was also fewer. When the wave of Delta decreased during early autumn and the borders of Morocco reopened, we hoped that the situation was going to get better. However, now with the new wave of Omicron, our borders have closed again...

I receive very few donations and it's having a lasting impact on our rescue, we have debts at the vet, the food shop, the pharmacy... I just don't know how to get my head above water anymore. I can only rely on this campaign at this stage."

5. Rokaya isn't asking for money, only kibble to keep the dogs from starving!

###

"I've always loved animals, but I really started getting involved in 2016, when I realized couldn’t find a single association who took care of dogs in Tetouan. It’s not an easy task but when I think of how long I’ve been doing this with the very few resources I have, I feel very proud.

Can you imagine what would happen to 143 dogs plus the cats if I lost this place? There is no public service in Tetouan for dogs or any kind of abandoned animals. The local population doesn't accept them either, nor do they tend to  help because they fear dogs.

Without my shelter, the dogs would risk being poisoned or killed by people or authorities. That's my greatest fear. I just hope I'll be able to gain more support to continue my actions, so that eventually all the dogs in Tetouan have a place to live, be cared for and well fed."

6. If this campaign succeeds, Rokaya will not receive any money but 3000 kg of kibble, delivered from Animal Webaction's logistics platform in Morocco.

Animal Webaction has a logistic platform in Morocco which allows us to intervene quickly and deliver kibble throughout the country.

7. Rokaya does her maximum to publicize the association's needs but her initiatives aren't enough to get back on her feet. She needs this campaign!

"I post on my social media pages to try and alert people about our struggles. After that, some people interact and like our page. We hope that those interactions will eventually transform into more donations because with the number of dogs and cats we have, the amount of money we need to feed them  is far greater than the donations we receive.

In Morocco, I tried to contact everyone and every organization, in vain. Right now, Animal Webaction has become my only and last hope. I’m very thankful for the success for the previous campaigns and I hope this one succeeds too."

8. Campaigns launched on Animal Webaction often fail.

When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The beneficiary doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.

9. In Morocco, donors are scarce, and there are no foundations or subsidies. It is very difficult to find funding for kibble, many dogs remain starving in the street!
