Animal Webaction visited the site 13 January 2022 and confirms the situation described below.

1. In Morocco, Elise is almost out of kibble for the 187 dogs in the UMPA shelter. They will starve if no one helps them!

%%%

"The main difficulty I face is the lack of means. Lack of means means lack of food, lack of medicine, there are even important surgical operations that we cannot do immediately. I do my best to feed the dogs, sometimes I buy a few kilos of kibble so that they don't go without food.

At the moment we only have enough food for 3 days. In the morning, at the shelter, it's 3 degrees, the dogs won't be able to stand this diet because of the cold, they have to eat well otherwise they will get sick. We have already had to reduce the daily portion of croquettes and have added bread. Bread is not a good quality food, it is just to fill the dogs' stomachs and prevent fights.

Dogs are losing weight, others are already sick, and their condition has already worsened. I'm confused and demoralised, I can't stop thinking about the fate of my dogs. I need this campaign to be able to give my dogs good quality food. This campaign is our only hope!"

2. Elise already has to turn down new rescues, while dogs in distress are pouring in from all sides.

###

"The situation is catastrophic, the dogs are living in misery on the streets. I get about 30 rescue calls every day but I can't save them all. There are some fragile dogs that are more of a priority, so we only rescue emergency cases. I can't even pick up a dog just because it's skinny or has a spot of mange, I only save emergency cases because I have limited resources...

In spite of all these difficulties, I can't let go of a dog in a serious condition and leave it in the street. I prefer to take him in at the shelter until I can afford to give him some care, but sometimes we can't. It's very frustrating, I don't know what to do. It's very frustrating I wish I could help more dogs in misery, but I can't."

3. Kanayou has already lost weight; this campaign is her only hope.

###

"Kanayou is a dog who was abandoned in June 2017 with 2 other dogs. She was very thin. Today, Kanayou can't see out of one eye, and recently she has started to lose weight again...

She has become very fearful to the point that she shakes if she sees someone approaching her. Her condition may worsen as she is already weakened and she may develop new diseases. She needs a good diet to regain some of her strength!"

4. Subsidies have been slashed, donations have dropped and debts keep piling up... Elise is no longer able to make up for the impacts of the pandemic, she can no longer buy kibble.

###

"It's the beginning of the year, we need donations to be able to continue our actions, we need the state subsidy but unfortunately it won't be paid until May. If I don't have enough money, I will be overwhelmed with debt because I will have to treat the dogs on credit. The pandemic has broken everything, it has put middle class people in poverty. Visits to the shelter are still not accepted.

Before the pandemic, thanks to the visitors who came to the shelter, I collected more than 55 bags of kibble per month. But as long as the shelter is closed to the public, we don't receive any more donations... We have lost many of our donors. Unfortunately the number of dogs at the shelter has increased, we can't buy kibble for all these dogs!"

5. Elise is not asking to receive any money, only kibbles to keep the dogs from starving.

###

"I sacrificed 27 years of my life for the welfare of these animals, I sacrificed my money and all my energy for this shelter. I ran this shelter for many years with my own money, I made this place a great place to take animals.

I am saddened, the food supply is a serious problem, and the difficulty of finding kibble worries me terribly. I hope that this collection will succeed, it is our only hope and I also hope that this crisis will end as soon as possible because it has broken us on all sides: the kitchens no longer work, donations and adoptions are non-existent, I can't take it anymore, I'm depressed.

The UMPA is recognised as being of public utility, our work is to receive abandoned animals, to look for adoptive families for them and to carry out sterilisations and free care for the animals of the most destitute people. These actions help to limit animal suffering, but also abandonment, and ensure control over the stray animal population. I can't face this problem alone, because I don't have the means to manage everything alone, I will never be able to continue without the help and support of people."

6. If this campaign succeeds, Elise will not receive any money but 3000 kg of kibbles, delivered from Animal Webaction's logistics platform in Morocco.

Delivery

Animal Webaction has a logistics platform in Morocco which enables us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles.

7. Online fundraising are not working anymore, international foundations refuse to help with kibble, the shelter needs this campaign to continue its actions.

"The association's actions are financed by my pension, my husband helps me with his own money to finance the shelter if necessary. I have a grant from the ministry but unfortunately the grant is not systematic. The state has to check everything before giving us the grant, every year everything is questioned. The first instalment of the grant will not be paid until May. We have a lot of expenses, I can't manage the shelter without help.

I have tried to contact the Bardot Foundation, but unfortunately they don't help with the kibble, they only help with the costs of operations or neutering for example. I can't find any organisation that can help me to buy kibble.

The situation is very serious. I only do the online kitty to take care of a dog that needs an operation or care. I can't ask for everything because even the kitty for care is no longer successful and doesn't work like before the pandemic."

8. Campaigns launched on Animal Webaction often fail.

Liste des récoltes échouées

When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the collected products, the beneficiary receives nothing and the buyers get a refund.

9. In Morocco, donors are scarce, and there are no foundations or subsidies . It is very difficult to find funding for kibbles, many dogs remain starving in the street!
