Dana is a 14 years old dog, who was abandoned last summer by her owner. Her owner initially wanted to euthanize her because she had a liver problem that made her vomit several times a day.
Fortunately, the vet called us to take care of her. Since then, we have given her a treatment for her liver and she is doing better on that side.
With osteoarthritis, Dana couldn't walk when she first arrived, and was dragging her hindquarters to get around. But now that she is taking pills to treat it, she is doing better. She will have to stay on the medication for the rest of her life, though...
With proper wet canned food, Dana could take her pills without difficulty. It would also be an opportunity for her to fill up on energy, so that she could spend her old age with peace of mind.
We take care of 107 dogs and 26 cats. Many of the animals we take in come from abroad, from the street or from private individuals. There are many requests, but we give priority to sick and elderly animals.
Most of them have suffered all their lives... so we want to bring them comfort and allow them to eat their fill. But all this has a cost: 50 000 euros of veterinary expenses last year alone!
