Maya is a 12 year old dog, who was roaming the streets in Romania, before being intercepted by the pound. We took her in because she has serious health problems.
She is morbidly obese, and weighs 45 kg when she should only be about 30 kg. This causes her to have hypothyroidism, and requires that she take a very heavy treatment for life.
Maya has a lot of trouble getting around because she has osteoarthritis. Her joints hurt, so she also has a pill treatment to take for this condition.
With adapted wet canned food, Maya would be able to swallow her various tablets more easily. This would be an opportunity for her to fill up on energy, so that she could spend her old age more serenely.
We take care of 107 dogs and 26 cats. Many of the animals we take in come from abroad, from the street or from private individuals. There are many requests, but we give priority to sick and elderly animals.
Most of them have suffered all their lives... so we want to bring them comfort and allow them to eat their fill. But all this has a cost: 50 000 euros of veterinary expenses last year alone!
