Animal Webaction visited the site 06 February 2022 and confirms the situation described below.

1. In Serbia, Ivana is almost out of kibble to feed the 40 abandoned street dogs that she cares for. They will starve if nobody intervenes!

“The street dogs live in horrible conditions. They are exposed to so many dangers : the cars that might hit them, the illnesses, the potential poisoners and the hunters that could kill them. Sometimes we can’t do anything because we arrive too late. This makes me feel really bad, but in our town and country, people don't care and keep abandoning their dogs. That’s why the number of street dogs never decreases.

Living in the streets is hard on the dogs and without kibble and warmth, some of them won’t even survive winter. I want to help every injured dog that I can but I can’t bring them all to my shelter so I want to do my best to feed them and avoid seeing them starve.

The problem is that we don’t have enough money to buy kibble. It is financially and physically really hard! At the moment, we only have 2 to 3 days of kibble left to feed all of them and I have already been cutting back on food for everybody...  Soon there will be nothing. I am scared : they are hungry and fragile, it’s easy for them to get sick. That’s why I need this campaign to succeed : the lives of the dogs both living in the streets or in my shelter depend on it.”

2. Living in disastrous conditions, Lea is in danger of being attacked by locals if Ivana does not provide kibble for her.

###

"I found Lea when she was abandoned two and a half months ago. She is one of those street dogs currently living in very dangerous conditions. Sadly, I don’t have enough space and resources to take her to the shelter at the moment. I don’t want to bring more dogs if I can’t provide them with enough food.

She has some hard time getting up, it seems like one of her legs is in pain, but she often wanders around the streets for food and that attracts the attention of people that are scared of big dogs like her, they might attack her. That's why I need to provide her with kibble and keep her fed to avoid being hurt by the locals.”

3. At the shelter some 40 dogs also depend on Ivana for food, they are threatened by the shortage of kibble too.

"I welcome the most vulnerable and injured dogs to my shelter, I take them out of the streets to give them a chance : but if I don’t have any kibble to give them, how can I be any good for them ? I always try to feed both the street dogs and the ones in my shelter, but right now I don't have enough for either...

Right now, we have 2 sick dogs here that constantly need medicine and that are about to undergo surgeries. I am afraid that if we don’t get food from this campaign, the dogs will get worse : without kibble the treatments that most of my dogs are getting will not be effective. I have so many money problems that I can not cope with everything, I feel terrible!

I do everything in my hands for those dogs, to feed them, take care of them, making sure their health gets better. The main problem is that without kibble it is all for nothing. I am scared. This campaign is their only chance of survival !”

4. Floosie is already weak, she is in desperate need of good quality kibble to recover from her surgeries.

###

“Floosie was abandoned beside the shelter 4 months ago, we found her alone with her two back legs  paralyzed! She was injured and couldn’t walk properly, we took her to the vet and nurtured her there.

She is still in recovery from the first surgery and has to be constantly fed the right amount of quality kibble to be strong again, and undergo another surgery soon. She is in desperate need of special care and regular meals containing all the nutrients for her bones to mend properly. Good quality kibble is an absolute necessity for her to regain her strength and have a chance to live!”

5. No donations, adoptions on hold, debts that keep on coming... The pandemic was hard on Ivana's resources, she can no longer buy kibble for the dogs!

###

"When we were feeding fewer dogs, we managed to finance everything with our own income, but now the number has increased and so did the bills… Some locals provided us with some food around the holidays, that meant a lot to us but was far from being enough for what the dogs need every day!

Financially, it is impossible for an average person in Serbia to cover it all, and with the pandemic, people can’t help as much before and when they do, it is never enough... We are really grateful for any help we receive, but the debts we have at the pet shops and the vets are just so big that soon they will stop providing us with food and medicine. What can we do? I really hope that this campaign will succeed, the lives and health of my dogs depend on it!”

6. Ivana is not asking for money, but for kibbles to keep her dogs from starving.

###

“The love I have for my dogs grows stronger with every new dog that I rescue. Ever since I started a few years back, all my free time has been dedicated to them : in the morning before work, and then again after work. There is just so much to do at the shelter, feeding them, cleaning the shelter and checking the dogs in the streets. I would love to have more people willing to help us, but it’s always just a couple of us doing all of the work.

At the shelter, there is only one volunteer beside me. However, we have 3 friends that are helping us out by temporarily admitting some of the dogs to their homes. You know a lot of locals think we are weird to spend so much time and money on this cause, but I have never regretted making this decision to help  and rescue them. If I don’t, no one else will and the number of abandoned dogs will keep rising.

That’s why, when I receive any kind of help I just want to do even more good for the dogs! The rescues require some sacrifices but whenever I save and bring an injured dog to the shelter, I know that he wouldn’t have survived if we hadn’t found him and helped him immediately! That’s how I know I make a difference!”

7. If this campaign succeeds, Ivana will not receive any money, but 2000kg of kibble, delivered from the Animal Webaction logistics centre in Serbia.

Animal Webaction has a logistic platform in Serbia, which allows us to intervene quickly and deliver kibble.

8. Ivana tries to raise help, awareness and funds, but she does not have enough support to keep up with the bills : she urgently needs kibbles to feed the dogs !

“In Serbia, no one is helping us and we don’t get any donations. Last year, I barely got any support, apart from Animal Webaction last October. As much as we are trying to rescue all the dogs we can, neither the locals nor our government bother to help us out. I did ask for some help online a few months ago but only one person abroad was willing to help. It made me so happy because it’s so rare : most organizations are already helping a lot of people and they are not able to support my shelter either.

My efforts to create some awareness paid off a little as I am in contact with an English organization “Balkan Underdogs” who helps us to give our dogs for adoption and also a French association that provides us with sterilizations. That means a lot to us but unfortunately neither of them have the means to buy us kibble.

I hope the general awareness will be achieved among the people here and that they will sterilize their dogs and thus help all of us significantly. I hope people will realize that soon, and that the considerations given to the animals’ living conditions will change for the sake of my dogs.”

9.  Campaigns launched on Animal Webaction often fail.

10. In Serbia, street dogs are hunted by the state and ignored by the population, volunteers like Ivana are their only hope.
