Animal Webaction visited the site 13 March 2022 and confirms the situation described below.

1. In North Macedonia, Ivana will soon run out of kibble to feed the 200 dogs abandoned in the streets and public dumps: they will starve if no one intervenes!

%%%

"Springtime is just around the corner and with it comes mating season, the number of dogs is already starting to increase at the dumps... We spay and find homes for as many dogs as we can, but many puppies are being born daily. Just during our last visit there, we found 13 new little ones...

There are so many dogs at the dumps and on the streets, it's impossible to feed everyone at the moment. We are running out of food fast, I've already had to start reducing the dogs' portions! I feel anxious and worried, these dogs' health is extremely fragile, with no food they will die faster than anyone else...

I feel so sorry as I know they trust me and expect me... They always wait for me to feed them, they even recognize my car when I'm coming. I can't just pass by or come with empty hands to them.. I know for sure that I'll be counting days till the campaign succeeds, and I hope it will... Food is simply a life or death situation for the dogs living in these conditions..."

2. Abandoned by his owners at the dump, Spot has lost all bearrings. He relies entirely on Ivana to be fed and survive.

###

"Spot is a 8-9 months old male, we found him at the dump; it looks like his owners left him there to die. We don't know what happened to him exactly but I noticed that he is scared of people and sudden moves, I'm sure that his previous owners used to beat him...

I try to find him at the dump every time I'm there and I hope to take him to the shelter as soon as possible but right now the lack food, space and overall resources is hindering our ability to rescue as many dogs as needed. Until I can take him to the shelter, it's my duty to feed Spot so he can manage to survive at the dump."

3. Negro is in such bad shape that he would have starved to death at the dump if Ivana hadn't rescued him: he needs kibble to survive!

###

"Negro is a 4 year-old male, we found him at the dump, he was definitely abandoned by his owners there. He is skin on bones, his legs are swollen, he is dying, barely walking...

Negro trusted me, he came to me, and I managed to take him to the shelter a few days ago. Honestly, it felt like he was begging me to help him... Negro is a gentle giant; giving him shelter was one thing but given his particularly fragile and weak state, he will not be able to survive without kibble."

4. Ivana's shelter hosts 100 dogs, some of them extremely fragile. They need kibble to survive!

%%%

"Any time we find a dog in distress, we face two issues: where to take this dog and where to find the money to save him. We just got 15 new dogs to the shelter who are all in bad health; we also have other dogs with skin illnesses, weight loss, puppies... Food is the most important need for them.

Unfortunately, we struggle to provide kibble and are not always able to provide good quality either, which takes a toll on the dogs' health. Right now we have about 300 kg of food left, it is enough for a few days at most. If we get food, there will not be many difficulties : we could spend our resources on other needs such as meds, treatments etc... Everyone would be safe in the shelter for the next couple of months at least.

But if this campaign fails, I'm worried that the dogs's health will deteriorate further, that they will suffer and start attacking each other out of hunger. I don't even want to think about a situation like this...  This campaign will help the dogs in the shelter survive, and it will also allow me to rescue more dogs overall."

5. Veterinary costs are skyrocketing while donations only get lower... Ivana is in a bind and can no longer buy kibble for the dogs.

###

"Our donations have dropped a lot recently. Sponsors and supporters are currently focused on the situation in Ukraine trying not only to help pets, but also to help Ukrainian people as much as they can; they all need a lot of help and support right now.

Unfortunately, we have also lost one of our biggest supporters to cancer recently. That's a big tragedy for us, as she was a really helpful and wonderful woman who supported our shelter a lot. I really hope someone will notice us and offer us some stable and secure partnership because we really need it at the moment!

Our vet debts are enormous, we have less and less adoptions, and the number of abandoned animals continues to rise... We always try to find resources and time for everyone, especially for the dogs who are at risk; but without funding, all our efforts are in vain! We need this food so we can continue taking care of our dogs and continue saving others. A little help goes a long way!"

6. Ivana is not asking for money, only kibble to prevent the dogs from starving.

###

"I think our actions make a huge difference, people are starting to realize that we change the situation with abandoned dogs here a lot. Here is a simple example: we have just discovered 13 helpless puppies at the dump on a Sunday. I could choose to spend this day with my family but that would mean death for all those puppies, so I'm doing my best to catch them, because I'm pretty sure I won't be able to find them there tomorrow otherwise. A little sacrifice for me equals life for them!

Our efforts are starting to bear fruit at the local level, we have just started a collaboration with a public service, it's a great victory for us. They are helping us with vaccinations and documentation of the dogs, in order to facilitate adoptions. We are also contacting a Swiss organization in the hope that they can help us with global sterilization.

I'm enthusiastic, looking for partnerships and support to fix the situation at the dumps somehow. I have big plans for this year, I just need some help so I can rescue more dogs, give them a chance to find hope and never get back to the dump..."

7. If this campaign succeeds, Ivana will not receive any money but 2400 kg of kibbles, delivered from Animal Webaction's logistics platform in Macedonia.

Animal Webaction has a logistics centre in Macedonia which enables us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles.

8. Rescues follow one another but the help received is not enough. Ivana can only count on this campaign to feed the dogs in need!

"Unfortunately we don't get enough donations lately due to the global situation : pandemic, war... Our resources are limited and the quantity of abandoned dogs is huge. I have no idea how we are going to manage financially...

I have big plans for the shelter this year and high expectations regarding potential upcoming partnerships. But in the meantime, I just really need some help with food, as our donations and adoptions have dropped a lot. I can't let my dogs starve!"

9. Campaigns launched on Animal Webaction often fail.

When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The beneficiary doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.

10. In Macedonia, neither the state nor the population wants to help the abandoned dogs. A lot of animals are left to die outside, there is no care for them.
