Animal Webaction visited the site 13 March 2022 and confirms the situation described below.

1. In Romania, Maria and Ferenc are running out of kibble to feed the 379 dogs in their shelter. They will starve if no one intervenes!

%%%

“There are currently 379 dogs at the shelter and we are completely overcrowded! Just when I thought our actions were making a difference, there are always more abandoned dogs in the streets, and the locals often say to us : « You have a shelter, you take them ! », but they don’t realize that we don't have the resources needed for such a massive number of dogs...

We are completely reliant on donations and people’s generosity but between Covid and the current geopolitical context, a general anxiety has fallen over the country and people do not donate as they used to… Nobody has the means to help us to the extent of our needs. I don’t think we’ve ever been at such a low point!

We have only 5 bags of kibble left, and no funds to buy more. With so many dogs, the little that we have won't last long. We are stressed and worried, we need this campaign to succeed to be able to feed our dogs… ”

2. At the shelter, the lack of kibble is increasing the tensions among the dogs. With no solution in sight, the situation could degenerate at any moment!

###

"Our stock is kibble is dangerously low, we have started reducing the dogs' meal for lack of a better option... The dogs don't eat enough, they are visibly agitated. To make matters worse, our shelter is completely full and most kennels have at least 2 dogs inside. With that many dogs stressed and hungry, fights have started breaking out... We had one this morning just before you arrived.

So far, we have managed to avoid the worst but if we're not monitoring the dogs 24/7, we know the fights will escalate. If we don"t find a new stock of kibble soon, we won't be able to avoid a disaster. Dogs will only be truly calm once their bellies are full!

The lack of food creates a dangerous situation at the shelter and it also prevents us from rescuing any additional dog because we can't take the risk to increase the tensions among the dogs if we don't have enough to feed them all! Our stress level is very high and if that campaign fails, it will be utterly heartbreaking! We need kibble for the dogs to stay in good health and good harmony without fighting."

3. Run over by a car, Lili has been amputated, she needs kibble to regain her strength and recover from her surgery.

###

“Lili was hit by a car, the impact seriously affected one of her front legs. When we took her to the shelter, her leg didn’t seem to bother her but she kept on getting scratches and wounds that were not healing properly. She was at risk of developing gangrene, so the vet made the decision to amputate her leg.

She had her surgery 3 days ago and it was not an easy one… Her road to recovery will be a long one. Without proper care and quality kibble in sufficient amounts, Lili will have no chance to fully recuperate."

4. Between the pandemic and the war, donations are fewer than ever! Maria and Ferenc have no money to buy kibble for the dogs.

###

“The lack of funds affects us on every level : food, medication, vet, electricity... Before the pandemic, donations were really making a difference, we had volunteers, people would offer help and the collections we would make in supermarket parking lots were very helpful.

Now that it seemed like the pandemic was finally starting to dissipate, we were finally hoping to see the light of day... but with the war in Ukraine, everything has gotten even worse! Donations are fewer than ever and we have a lot of debt. It looks like our struggle  to provide for the dogs is far from being over...I am honestly scared!

We have to handle so much and the abandonments never stop...I don’t know how we will be able to manage that situation if we don't get some help!"

5. Maria and Ferenc are not asking for money, only kibble to keep their dogs from starving.

###

“My husband and I opened our shelter 6 years ago and since that day, it has become our life! We are the only ones in the area taking care of dogs and we do everything alone. We have no volunteers, we don’t spend money on ourselves and everything we can get, goes to the shelter. We spend all of our days here, going to the vet, cleaning, feeding, washing, taking care of injured or sick sogs, the financial and legal aspects, and everything else in between...

It is extremely hard to take care of so many dogs and we are running out of ideas to convince people that sterilization is beneficial for everyone! Everybody needs to learn to be more responsible, and the police has to get more involved and start enforcing the law to the letter... Maybe then, we will slowly have less dogs in the streets!"

6. If this campaign succeeds, Maria and Ferenc will not receive any money but 3000 kg of kibble, delivered from Animal Webaction's logistics platform in Romania.

Animal Webaction has a logistics platform in Romania which enables us to intervene quickly and deliver kibble.

7. Maria and Ferenc try their best to get help but without kibble, their actions are useless.

“We have a Facebook page where we ask for help online, we post the dogs we find, dogs available for adoptions, and we try to raise money... But it isn’t enough, I guess all the associations are doing it and considering the current global situation, I am not surprised donations are so low!

Locally, we receive no help. Luckily on an international level, we still receive help from two organizations : "Only for them" and "Ruff Start", they send us food, money and help us a lot with our visibility and the adoptions, whenever they can. Unfortunately, they don’t have the capacity to help us constantly, especially with the number of dogs we have and the quantity of kibble we need.

We desperately need this campaign to work because it's the only way for us to get enough kibble for our dogs. Please help us, every little contribution will make a difference!"

8. Campaigns launched on Animal Webaction often fail.

When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The beneficiary doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.

9. In Romania, it is difficult to find funds for kibble, there are no grants, no foundations. Many abandoned dogs die alone in the streets, in complete indifference...
