"Our association usually takes care of 25 horses and equines. But recently, we had to take in 80 sheep, following a seizure for mistreatment.
This represents a considerable number of extra mouths to feed! Especially since most of the 65 ewes and the 15 or so lambs were in terrible condition when they arrived. They needed to be supplemented so much that we hardly have any pellets left. What we have left will barely last a week...
We try to ration the portions a little, juggling with hay, but we can't do it for too long, because the animals are very fragile. If we don't find a solution to find pellets quickly, it will be a disaster! The nursing ewes, the lambs… many are likely to die!"
"The person who usually looked after the sheep was no longer able to take care of them for health reasons. The police therefore asked us to collect the herd. The sheep had been on their own for at least six months. In the end, they were locked up and didn't even have access to the grass outside to graze...
When they arrived, four ewes died: their vital organs were too weakened, we couldn't do anything. Today, after what they have been through, all the sheep are struggling to recover.
Some ewes arrived pregnant. But as they are too weak to produce milk, we have to bottle-feed the little ones... the situation is really critical. We need pellets for the adults and weaned lambs urgently!"
"Bichette is a little sheep of 2 or 3 years old. She was full of worms and very weak when she arrived. Without care, the parasites had made their way into her lungs, where they had made holes... Poor Bichette was coughing a lot.
So we immediately dewormed her. Her symptoms are beginning to lessen, but she is still very weak. She can't get up on her own because she has so little energy… Without pellets to get her back on her feet, she won't make it!"
"Donations are stagnant and we have no grants or subsidies. With 80 more sheep, the veterinary bills are enormous: between deworming, hay, vitamins, we can't make it! Since the beginning of winter, we have had to pay 2,600 euros in expenses! We have only 400 euros left to end the year... in other words, it's mission impossible.
We will not be able to keep all these sheep forever, it would be heading for disaster. But putting them back with good families will take a while... Pellets for the time we have to keep them would therefore be really a great help!"
"I have been dedicating myself to the animal cause for almost 8 years. With the president, we devote all our free time to it: during the day I work, in the morning and evening I take care of the animals.
As we have little help, we had to invest a lot of our own money. Organizing collections is complicated, it requires a lot of time. But we don't have any time with all these animals to take care of..."
