Animal Webaction visited the site 18 May 2022 and confirms the situation described below.

1. In Bosnia, Maya is running out of kibble to feed the 50 dogs in her shelter, they will starve if nobody does anything!

%%%

"I don't get any more donations, so the only way I have found to feed the 50 dogs in my shelter is to cook rice and some vegetables to fill their stomachs... I know that this diet is absolutely not nutritious enough for them, it is too low in protein, but unfortunately, I have not found any other solution for the moment... If the situation continues like this for too long, I'm afraid they will get sick, or worse, starve to death!

For some time now, the price of kibble has increased a lot, probably because of the war in Ukraine and the aftermath of the pandemic. The problem is that while prices are rising, I have to continue to treat the dogs at the vet, feed them and house them. With the decrease in donations, my job is becoming more and more difficult. Because I can no longer afford to buy kibble, I am forced to stop saving the dogs from the streets...

I do my best to save as many dogs as possible from the hell of the streets, but I'm starting to feel powerless, I can't cope with it anymore! Today I only have two days of kibble left, after that I will have to give them rice, but this can't last... This diet without nutrients and vitamins will kill them!"

2. With no donations, Maya is forced to ration her dogs: their health is in danger, if she doesn't find kibble quickly they will fall ill or starve!

###

"Every dog in my care needs specific care, and unfortunately the more time passes, the less I can afford it... I feed my 50 dogs as best I can, but if I continue to ration them like this, their health will deteriorate and I will not be able to do anything to save them...

Searching for kibble takes up most of my time and energy, unfortunately when I find the money to buy it is poor quality kibble, which only makes their health problems worse! They have digestive problems, they don't get the vitamins and nutrients they need to grow up healthy, and I can't afford to treat them properly... It's a vicious circle!

This situation hurts me a lot, I would like to help them as much as possible but I can't do it alone anymore... I need this kibble campaign to succeed more than ever, the dogs need it to live!"

3. Saved from euthanasia, Simo must now fight against cancer: without kibble, he will not make it!

###

"Simo was rescued from the streets of Sarajevo 7 years ago: I literally followed the animal control brigade who wanted to euthanise him, managed to find him before they did, and saved him from death! The problem is that poor Simo has a tumour in his chest, and he also suffers from spinal and leg pain after being hit by a car!

If the current situation continues for too long, if I can't offer him good quality kibble, then he has no chance of getting out of it... I want to save him, to give him the opportunity to find a loving family, but without the success of this campaign it seems impossible..."

4. Food and money donations have dropped dramatically due to the uncertainty caused by the pandemic and the war in Ukraine, leaving Maya in debt, helpless and without kibble...

###

"Unfortunately, because of the lack of kibble, I can't help as many dogs as I would like, especially because the price of kibble has doubled since last year... Before the pandemic, I was able to get kibble from my own funds and donations from individuals. Now, due to the uncertainty caused by the war in Ukraine and the pandemic, I don't get as much help, and the prices of fuel and other necessities have increased, which puts me in a more than catastrophic position...

Due to the increase in the price of food and life in general, I find myself in more debt than ever, both to the kibble suppliers and to the various vets. About 25% of the dogs in the shelter are elderly, they need special care and treatment, and with the lack of kibble their needs are becoming more and more expensive...

As if that wasn't enough, there was a flood in the shelter last November. I managed to save all the dogs, but the difficulties remained as the flood destroyed almost all the facilities! I had to repair everything with my own money... After that I was financially devastated! I am afraid that the floods will happen again, it would be a disaster... I need this kibble campaign, without it my dogs are doomed..."

5. Maya isn't asking for money, only kibble to prevent the dogs from starving.

###

"I have loved animals since I was a child, and I have always felt particularly sad when I witnessed their misfortune, so I decided to help them! For a while, the dogs I rescued were in boarding kennels, but unfortunately I couldn't afford it because it was too expensive! So I decided to build a shelter with a couple of friends, and I now pay an annual rent to house them all.

In this part of Bosnia, there is no proper public institution, the state should do much more in terms of helping to look after abandoned animals, but there are only pounds, whose employees are not properly trained... The dogs are kept in inhumane conditions, without water, without sufficient space, and often without food. On top of that, they do not provide them with any veterinary care... Moreover, the dogs that are not lucky enough to be adopted by someone like us, or by private individuals, they are euthanised in a very short time and in a very violent way!

It would be nice if the local population or the state supported me, and if I had more volunteers to help me in my daily work at the shelter, but in general I don't get any help... I am at the shelter all day because there is a lot of work, while the other volunteers come and go according to their availability. There are four of us in total, and without us, the dogs in our town would have even less chance of surviving. Here we care about their safety, health, welfare, veterinary care and we try to give them a good quality of life compared to the one they had on the street... That's why we need this campaign to succeed: so we can continue to save them!"

6. If this campaign succeeds, Maya will not receive any money but 1920 kg of kibble, delivered from Animal Webaction's logistic platform in Bosnia.

Animal Webaction has a logistic platform in Bosnia which allows us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles.

7. Maya's pockets have been empty since the floods, donations have stopped because of the pandemic, and her supporters can't help any more: this campaign must succeed!

"I spend most of my personal funds to save dogs from hell but unfortunately, without sponsors or institutional support, I can't do it alone. I have done an online auction to raise money and donations via my Facebook page, as this is my main way of collecting donations: it is the only way to have a functioning shelter.

Unfortunately, I have to raise money and look for ways to collect kibble on my own: it's hard work! I have some partnerships with organisations that help with adoptions abroad, and the support of occasional individual donations, mainly from people who have adopted dogs from my shelter, but that's about it...

I have also approached other organisations abroad, they were helping me to get donations of blankets, fencing and other equipment, especially after the floods in November. Unfortunately, I am not getting any kibble, and many people doing similar work to ours also need help. If this campaign fails, I don't know what I will do!"

8. Campaigns launched on Animal Webaction often fail.
