1. In Morocco, Karim is running out of kibble to feed the 197 cats at his shelter. They will starve if no one intervenes!

%%%

"We are currently taking care of 197 cats at the shelter and this number is increasing! This is mainly due to the fact that a large part of our work is focused on rescuing disabled, badly damaged and sick animals. There has been an upsurge in heavy medical cases and infections with the hot weather which accelerates the proliferation of ticks, fleas and bacteria...

These many, physically weakened cats need more and more veterinary care and kibble so that they can recover and get back on their paws... But we hardly receive donations, our stock of kibble is running out and unfortunately, we have switched to an even more drastic rationing than the one we started several weeks ago... The cats are no longer eating their fill and, by tomorrow evening, we won't even have any kibble left!

Sometimes, we manage to complete these meagre portions according to what we find and the prices (blood, cereals, bread, rice...), even if it is not very healthy for them... But it is so unbearable, we have no more solutions! Our cats can't heal, can't handle their treatments and can't get their strength back without kibble. If this campaign fails, I can't imagine having to release them! They're in great distress, they can't survive without the shelter and without kibble."

2. Flash has been badly burnt: his raw wounds are causing him excruciating pain and require extensive care. He is in dire need of kibble!

###

"Flash is a one-year-old cat who was rescued from the street, where he suffered severe burns under a car. We took him in at the shelter to give him first aid and to get him out of danger so he can recover at his own pace. He is in a lot of pain and we are trying to alleviate some of it with medication...

The skin on his lower body is so damaged that it has come off in several places, revealing raw flesh and leg bones... He is extremely fragile and must remain in quarantine to avoid any risk of superinfection. Given his condition, he absolutely needs to eat enough kibble to handle his treatments and heal..."

3. The hundreds of street cats whom Karim's association cares for are also threatened by the lack of kibble.

###

"We take care of nearly 200 street cats in different parts of the city. Their situations are variable, rarely ideal, and they're vulnerable animals: they are constantly confronted to illnesses and accidents... We regularly come to meet them to distribute kibble, but given our tiny remaining stock, we had to reduce their portions a long time ago...

We really need help to get kibble: a lot of these cats don't eat enough and if we don't bring them food anymore, they'll extend their territories even more to feed themselves. This puts them in danger as they can be victims of traffic accidents and the food they find on their own is not good at all for their health, if not even poisoned!

The lack of funding and donations considerably reduces our scope of action: many cats need heavy treatments and we cannot help them. Underfed cats' conditions deteriorate very quickly: they get weak, seriously ill and prone to infections and viruses such as coryza. We feel helpless and wonder how we will cope with this situation! Without this kibble campaign, these cats risk losing even more strength and dying..."

4. Karim is indebted and lacks resources: short of donations and facing inflation, he relies on this kibble campaign to feed the cats!

###

"My tourist activity allowed me to run the shelter and the association quite smoothly, to carry out sterilisation campaigns and to get enough kibble... Then the pandemic happened, it completely stopped tourism and, without the Animal Webaction campaigns, I don't know how I would have been able to continue feeding and saving cats.

Tourism has started up again a little since April, but it's still not enough to cover all the shelter's expenses. Inflation has taken over and made people poorer: we have no new donors. People are on an ever tighter budget and are prioritising household expenses over donations for the cats...

It's difficult financially speaking, especially as the majority of cats need veterinary care... And since the price of cat food has gone up too, we can't buy enough of it. We have to ration them more and more, it's a real hassle! The debts are piling up for all these vital expenses for the cats... We are not subsidised by the state either, so there is really only this campaign left to help us feed the cats."

5. Karim isn't asking for money, only kibble to prevent the cats from starving.

###

"I've been involved in animal protection for eight years, because I can't stand to see animals suffer. Creating this association here was a response to a real need: people were complaining about the lack of serious and structured animal protection organisations... However, now that we have done it with our shelter, nobody helps us!

It's unbearable to continue without local support... There is a lack of involvement, education and awareness from the state but also from adults towards the youngest... It's disappointing. There is still so much to do! On systematic sterilisation, for example... This would avoid the use of cruel and widespread methods to regulate populations, such as mass slaughter or poisoning of strays.

I still despair about the situation of the cats in the area... I wish we could do more for them, even if our actions have an impact! There are people who seem to be a bit more aware and treat them better... There are fewer vulnerable cats, sick with coryza or even laying dead on the side of the road. To continue our rescues serenely and to feed the cats properly, we need this campaign to succeed!"

6. If this campaign succeeds, Karim will not receive money but 920 kg of kibble, delivered from Animal Webaction's logistics platform in Morocco.

Animal Webaction has a logistics platform in Morocco, which enables us to intervene quickly and deliver kibble.

7. Karim's association has no local or foreign support: the cats are directly threatened by this low involvement. This campaign cannot fail!

"We communicate about the association's activities on our Facebook page... We try to make people more involved in our cause and raise awareness on the harsh realities of the daily life of street cats, but also those at the shelter. The municipality does not provide us with any human, material or financial support, so we have to manage as best we can by ourselves...

We don't have any local or foreign organisation sponsoring us, so it would clearly be impossible to carry out our missions without the micro-donations on Teaming, the few regular donors and supporters, as well as the occasional adoptions of animals. All of these are unfortunately decreasing a lot, we are lacking more and more support and resources...

We sincerely thank all the people who will make donations during this Animal Webaction campaign... Your help is essential for all these cats! It is thanks to you that we will be able to get kibble and thus, continue our actions of feeding and rescuing cats in Marrakech, whether it is in the streets or at the shelter..."

8. Campaigns launched on Animal Webaction often fail.

When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The beneficiary doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.

9. In Morocco, donors are scarce, and there are no foundations or subsidies. It is very difficult to find funding for kibble, many cats are left to starve on the street!
