Animal Webaction visited the site 10 September 2022 and confirms the situation described below.

1. In Romania, Cristina has almost no kibble left to feed the 151 dogs at her shelter: they will starve if no one intervenes!

%%%

"151 dogs are under my care at the shelter… It’s extremely difficult to take care of and feed all these dogs. About food, getting kibble has been my main concern lately: in two days from now, the dogs won’t have kibble anymore! Prices are higher each month, everything is too expensive and kibble isn't spared.

The cheapest type of kibble in the market has increased by 40%... How can I cope with such huge expenses on my own? I don’t earn much money, donations are scarce and there are many other things to pay: vet care for injured dogs, antiparasitic treatments, kennel fixing…

My kibble stock will shortly be fully depleted and it’s not even average quality, it’s the worst ever and I even have to ration it! The consequences on the dogs have started to show, I feel so guilty… These dogs are under my responsibility, they’ve been through a lot... I’m afraid I won’t be able to get enough kibble in time and I would never forgive myself if my dogs die because of that! It’s a nightmare I don’t want to live… This campaign must succeed!”

2. At the shelter, poor quality kibble keeps being rationed: the dogs are hungry, they become aggressive and get skin diseases!

###

"Currently, I feed the dogs with kibble only. But it’s the cheapest and lowest quality ever, the only one I can afford… Right now, I can’t buy any more. I have no other choice but to stretch the remaining kibble stock until its very end, so I’ve been rationing the dogs’ portions for a week now… This lack of quality and quantity has harmful consequences on them.

My dogs aren’t eating enough, which affects their behaviour and health: they’re more aggressive towards one another and they have skin conditions making them lose their fur, scratch a lot… These side effects greatly impact the weakest dogs, they can’t properly build up strength or defend themselves, while their low immune system prevents them from fighting infections…

I’m simply desperate, I live in constant fear and stress: some of my dogs have lived here for many years, I cannot just release them on the streets! The food quantities the dogs get will become smaller and smaller, until I can’t provide them with anything to eat at all… It will be disastrous for my dogs, if this campaign fails: more hunger, dog fights, diseases, deaths…”

3. Underfed and with a severe case of mange, Cofee needs this kibble delivery to handle the treatment and recover!

###

"Coffee is an eight-year-old dog who was brought to us by his owner. The latter considered Coffee as useless and a burden to him, because he doesn’t have a strong guard dog nature. Coffee has been neglected most of his life and as a result, he’s underweight and has a bad case of mange...

Despite the treatments, he’s still recovering. His skin is really damaged due to mange: he scratches all the time! He’s very weak and vulnerable… He’s still on medication and it will only be effective if he gets enough quality kibble to eat. Being a sick dog, Coffee is likely to die without this kibble delivery…"

4. Cristina is affected by the inflation: she has debts, her income remains the same and donations have dropped. She can't buy kibble anymore!

###

"Before, I used my personal funds to feed the dogs… Except they weren't as many as they are lately! I have to rely on donations more now... but they’ve dropped so much they’re almost nonexistent! With the consequences of the war in Ukraine, people are struggling and deeply affected by the rising prices of energy, food and everything else… This combination is the perfect recipe for a financial disaster!

I make no exception, as I am also severely impacted by inflation… My unchanged salary doesn’t allow me to cover the shelter’s expenses on my own and at this point, I can’t do anything without being even more indebted! As I just can’t let dogs suffer from their injuries or diseases, I also owe a lot of money to the vet clinic and I’m very late with the payment of the shelter’s bills and rent, too!

The British border ban deeply impacts adoptions… The main destination for adopted dogs is Britain, where they’re supposed to join their new families. Everything’s settled and yet, they’re still stuck with us… Kennels are full, everything falls apart and I simply cannot finance anything anymore. I don’t even dare to think about what the lack of kibble would trigger... Without help, my dogs will starve: this campaign is my last hope!"

5. Cristina is not asking for money, only kibble to keep the dogs from starving.

###

"My involvement in animal welfare is my way of countering the Romanian law that allows the capture and killing of strays… I was outraged when this law passed! I love animals and each time I see a lost soul on the street, it’s heartbreaking. I’m ashamed that, in so many years, Romanian authorities still haven’t passed a strong, decent and ethical animal protection bill… Three years ago, we joined forces with my associate Crina, to legally create Negri’s Place: a safe place for abandoned dogs, where they’re not given up on, no matter what they’ve been or are going through.

We’re the only shelter in the area and all we want is to be able to cover the dogs’ needs, heal them and find them loving new homes! They didn’t start life the easy way, the least they deserve is the warmth of a loving family… I’m very happy and proud of every dog rescue I do! Yet, my actions aren’t State funded at all, they lack local support and no one wants to volunteer to help me with all the chores and dog care… so these days, I’m pretty much alone. I can’t face everything on my own, I need more people’s support… I’m in a desperate situation but with more help, I can move mountains!"

6. If this campaign succeeds, Cristina will not receive any money but 1800 kg of kibble, delivered from the Animal Webaction logistic platform in Romania.

Animal Webaction has a logistic platform in Romania, which allows us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles.

7. Cristina has no support from the state and foreign organisations have already done their best to help: this campaign is her last chance to get kibble!

"A few foreign organisations help me with fundraisers, collections and adoptions, which is extremely valuable… Alas! It's not enough to empty some kennels, cover all the expenses or feed the dogs… Local authorities don’t help me financially. They may have helped me with garbage management in the past, but otherwise, they always claim there’s no money for the strays… People here don’t mind the shelter and don’t donate money or kibble either. They rather take advantage of it, by abandoning dogs or getting them sterilised for free (actually, that part is a good thing!)…

On the other hand, due to the shelter being full, I’ve been unable to positively answer to many cries for help, lately. Every day, I’m asked on Facebook if I can help dogs in distress but, sadly, I can’t… The current lack of resources prevents me from doing so. I reached out to other shelters myself, to ask if they can take dogs in… But they can’t, they’re just as full as mine… My dogs only rely on me to feed them, they have no chance of survival otherwise. I just hope that good fellow humans will help my dogs not to starve."

8. Campaigns launched on Animal Webaction often fail.

Liste des récoltes échouées

When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The beneficiary doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.

9. In Romania, it is difficult to find funds for kibbles, there are no aid, no grants, no foundation... Many abandoned dogs die alone in the streets, in complete indifference.
