Animal Webaction visited the site 27 October 2022 and confirms the situation described below.

1. In Morocco, Florence is running out of kibble for the hundred or so street cats in her association's care. They will starve if nobody helps!

%%%

"The situation in Morocco is becoming increasingly difficult; inflation is having a catastrophic effect on the condition of animals and more specifically on street animals. The cost of living is increasing, people are forced to cut back on their expenses and unfortunately pets are often the first ones to pay the price... We see it everyday: the number of abandoned cats and dogs is increasing dramatically!

This situation puts the association in great difficulty because, unlike abandonments, our donations are constantly decreasing... We have more and more street cats in our care and we cannot afford the extra costs. We don't have enough money to feed them all, to sterilise them, to care for them... There are far too many of them!

Kibble supply is our biggest problem at the moment, we are trying to keep up by rationing the cats as much as possible but they are clearly not eating enough and in the next few days we will have nothing left... Many are already scavenging and malnourished... I am lost and desperate. Street cats are very vulnerable and this campaign is our only hope of feeding them over the coming period!"

2. Orange's coryza treatment is ineffective, he needs kibble to heal!

###

"Orange is a 2-year-old male, we found him in the street about 15 days ago. He is obviously suffering from coryza and he is very fragile. Unfortunately, his coryza treatment is having no effect due to the lack of kibble... His immunity is getting weaker and weaker and he is getting thinner by the day! He needs a good quality diet to get better. Without this kibble delivery, he will not recover..."

3. The association's shelter also takes in about fifteen vulnerable cats, who are also threatened by the lack of kibble!

%%%

"At the moment, our shelter has about fifteen fragile, handicapped, sick, injured cats... all unable to survive on the street! And although they are here safe from outside dangers, their survival can only be ensured if they receive proper care and a good, constant diet. As soon as they don't eat well or enough, their immune system weakens even more and all efforts are lost, they relapse, develop infections, get sick...

Unfortunately, the lack of donations that we are currently experiencing is impacting us in all directions, our veterinary debt is growing day by day, we are cruelly short of kibble and we have to refuse new rescues... We really need a helping hand to be able to continue to take care of our fragile cats with dignity, and to be able to welcome others in need. We can't do it without your help!"

4. Paralysed and dominated by the other cats who steal her food, Gucci cannot fight to eat.

###

"Gucci is a female of about 1 year old, we picked her up in the town of Khemisset, 190 km from Casablanca. She was the victim of an accident which left her handicapped, her two back legs are paralysed. She is very fragile, she does not walk properly and suffers a lot because of her handicap. She is gentle and cuddly with humans, but cohabitation with her fellow cats is more complicated...

The other cats in the shelter, also vulnerable but nevertheless more dominant, often eat her food... We always have to make sure that there is enough food for everyone, otherwise the disparities between the cats are too great, and the most vulnerable cats like Gucci are the first ones to suffer the consequences... We need this delivery, reducing portions further is unthinkable for Gucci, she wouldn't survive it!"

5. Veterinary expenses are exploding, the association no longer has enough resources to buy kibble!

###

"Our association relies entirely on donations to operate and provide the necessary help to the cats. Unfortunately donations are falling and although we benefit from preferential, associative prices in veterinary offices, our debts are piling up as the number of cats needing care is increasing! Abandonments of domesticated cats are the main cause, as these cats are not used to living in the street and very often end up injured, malnourished or ill... Most of them are also not sterilised when they are abandoned, so reproduction increases and we don't have the funds at the moment to sterilise everyone! It's a vicious circle.

We are a small organisation with a small treasury and we only survive on donations. So when these run out, as is the case now, we suffer terribly and the cats suffer with us! We are constantly short of kibble, not to mention the other expenses linked to our rescue and care activities and necessary for the overall health of the animals: ambulance, cleaning products, vaccinations... Today the lack of kibble is very worrying and inflation is such that we cannot buy more... We need help!"

6. Florence isn't asking for money, only kibble to prevent the cats from starving.

###

"The catastrophic animal condition is what touched me the most during my visits to Morocco, and what motivated me to join the association as an active volunteer. Of course, my love for animals is also a huge factor! I am totally committed to the association and to Hind, its president.

As the name suggests, the association takes care of dogs and cats. Our shelters have about 40 dogs and 15 cats, not counting the hundreds of street dogs and cats in our care every day. I personally take care of our social network pages, communication with the vets, payment of bills and regular correspondence with donors... I also come regularly on site to take care of the animals in a more concrete way.

On site, we take care of cats in distress by offering them care, sterilisation, and by finding them an adoptive family. We also raise awareness about the importance of sterilisation. All these actions are really essential to improve the living conditions of dogs and cats in the region. And over the years, we have noticed small changes in attitudes towards animal welfare in Morocco, but there is still a long way to go! It is very important to keep motivating people to undertake good and beautiful actions and to support them... Without support, we unfortunately cannot achieve anything!"

7. If this campaign succeeds, the association will not receive any money, but 920 kg of kibble, delivered from Animal Webaction's logistics platform in Morocco.

Animal Webaction has a logistical platform in Morocco, which allows us to intervene quickly and deliver the kibble.

8. Without subsidies or partnerships, the association depends entirely on donations which are constantly decreasing... Florence is counting on this campaign to feed the cats!

###

"The association never stands still, we are always knocking on every door possible to find help. Unfortunately, we have no partnership with other associations, no help from the state and donations from individuals, on whom we depend entirely to survive, have fallen sharply due to inflation. Nothing is easy, people can't donate because they are in crisis and their purchasing power has decreased. But the number of cats has increased, our expenses have increased and we can't afford all these expenses without help! It is important that people support us... These cats have no one else to take care of them, and this campaign is our hope to find kibble for them!"

9. Campaigns launched on Animal Webaction often fail.

When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The beneficiary doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.

10. In Morocco, donors are rare, and there are no foundations or subsidies... It is very difficult to find funding for kibble, many cats are left starving in the street!
