Animal Webaction visited the site 29 October 2022 and confirms the situation described below.

1. In Romania, Elena only has one day of kibble left for her 270 dogs. Deadly fights have already broken out… She fears other deaths!

%%%

"At the shelter, there are way too many dogs per kennel… Now, as I get almost no donations, kibble is my biggest issue: I only have one day left of it and it's greatly rationed… My dogs are starving and they fight to death! It’s absolutely devastating: lately, three of them died and two were severely injured… The lack of kibble plays a huge part in those tragedies!

I had never experienced these situations in the past. These fights are at another level of aggressiveness: my dogs are now led by their survival instincts, not just their pack instinct! They ferociously guard whatever small amount of food they manage to get… This campaign is my last resort to make my dogs stop killing each other over empty bowls!"

2. Pablo got caught in a dangerous dog fight: severely wounded, he relies on this kibble delivery to heal!

###

"Pablo is a sweet, loving five-year-old dog I rescued from a nearby farm, along with his brother… He is a sad example of the constant danger my dogs are facing with the lack of food: he was caught in a dog fight and severely injured! He was lucky I was quick enough to intervene and stop the dogs from killing him… He was rescued and received medical assistance on time.

But there are just so many times I can’t or won’t be around close and fast enough to prevent a tragedy! Pablo really needs kibble to recover and heal from his wounds… But all of my dogs desperately need this kibble delivery to happen! I don’t want them to fight, hurt and kill each other anymore… This campaign is the only solution to keep them safe and sound!"

3. Elena's shelter is the only hope for dogs in the region: but without kibble, she cannot continue rescuing them anymore!

###

"My shelter has never been so overcrowded! I don’t want to lose or see any of my dogs in pain anymore... And It’s too overwhelming to keep on rescuing dogs in this context. Yet if I don’t help those who require medical attention, honestly, no one else will! There are always new dogs to rescue in town: the number of strays doesn’t decrease at all because abandonments continue and people don’t sterilise their pets… It's terrible! You go outside and only see badly injured (if not dead) dogs who got hit by cars, lying on the roadsides…

Dogs are constantly brought to me, sometimes left in torn bags at the gates! Adoptions have stopped and the other shelters cannot take some of my dogs, since we're all in the same boat! I no longer have space and kibble for everyone… Besides, my shelter is in a rural area, quite isolated and pretty much the only one around that can intervene. All these dogs need my help but I can’t do it without kibble! This campaign is the only lifeline for them all..."

4. Elena is badly hit by inflation: with almost no donations and heavy debts, this campaign is all she has left to save her dogs!

###

"My rescues are usually focused on dogs whose conditions are very critical because they’re really “outcasts” and I don’t want to let them down… But saving and treating them is extremely costly. Vet care is indeed very expensive, so my debts to the veterinary clinic definitely stack up! I also owe a lot of money to the food supplier, to relatives, to energy suppliers…

I basically pay everything on credit to cover the dogs’ needs, even my employees’ salaries... It’s the only way but I can’t keep going like this for a long time now… I felt inflation very harshly and it has impoverished many people in Romania and also abroad: that’s the main reason why there’s an ongoing, dramatic drop in the donations I get…

People are financially struggling and buying some kibble or bringing some leftovers is no longer possible for them… The very few donations I get don’t allow me to buy kibble at all! I can barely use it to repay my old debts and only partly… I keep on trying to fundraise but it’s so unfruitful… I absolutely need this Animal Webaction campaign to feed my dogs!"

5. Elena isn't asking for money, only kibble to keep the dogs from starving.

###

"It’s very hard to keep the strength and motivation to continue running this shelter. I’m facing such a difficult situation at so many levels that I’m constantly scared that it will eventually impact the dogs and the way I can help them… I started this shelter to change the dogs’ fate in my country and improve the general opinion people have on them.

Yet many years have passed and there are still so many strays in the streets, dogs being abandoned, mistreated, poisoned or even killed… People haven’t changed. By rescuing dogs, I thought I could always manage to have them all adopted and keep on saving others… Again, I would have never thought a border ban would affect my adoptions as badly as it has!

I love what I do for the dogs, even if that means sacrificing my personal life and time… Knowing the shelter’s existence has done a huge difference and given so many dogs a second chance at life is incredible… But I don’t know how I’m going to continue helping dogs in distress if I don’t solve the kibble issue…"

6. If this campaign succeeds, Elena will not receive any money but 2400 kg of kibble, delivered from the Animal Webaction logistics centre in Romania.

Animal Webaction has a logistics platform in Romania which enables us to intervene quickly and deliver kibble.

7. Elena's supporters have done everything to help her, but collections are unfruitful: the dogs' survival relies on this campaign!

“A French organisation helps me as much as they can each month, when it comes to promoting the shelter’s actions and dogs for adoption, as well as collections… Without them, the shelter could no longer be! But  sadly, it hasn’t been working much in the last few months. Both donations and adoptions have been almost nonexistent. I previously had other foreign supporters as well but they’re severely affected by the global economic decline, too. Apart from that, in-kind donations I sometimes get are just too scarce to last long…

Everywhere, donors’ financial situations seem to have gotten worse and it has direct consequences on how I can manage to cover my dogs’ needs! I always deeply value the generosity and goodwill of some, but the amount of help I get isn’t enough. I lack every resource and no powerful NGO supports shelters like mine (it’s a myth!). Taking care of dogs, getting kibble, feeding them… it’s all a month to month survival matter! But if this campaign succeeds, my dogs and I will have at least a month of relief ahead!"

8. Campaigns launched on Animal Webaction often fail...

Liste des récoltes échouées

When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The beneficiary doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.

9. In Romania, it is difficult to find funds for kibbles, there are no aid, no grants, no foundation... Many abandoned dogs die alone in the streets, in complete indifference...
