Abuse, thyroid problems, cancerous tumors: Maya has been through a lot!

1. She has been mistreated and this has left her with a lot of scars...

Maya is a 13 years old dog, who lived in Romania before we took her in. There, she was hit with sticks on her back, which left her with multiple scars! Her spine is still weak from being beaten...

2. She is overweight because of thyroid problems

Maya has hypothyroidism: her thyroid gland doesn't produce enough hormone, which disrupts her body and her metabolism. We are giving her a treatment that is supposed to make her lose weight, but for now she is overweight.

3. She is going to have to have surgery for cancerous tumors!

Unfortunately, Maya has breast tumors. She would have to be operated to remove them, but such a surgery requires an anesthesia, which would be risky considering her weight. It is for her own health that she needs to lose weight.

4. Quality canned food would help her to come down to a reasonable weight for surgery

A healthy, balanced diet like canned food could be a good solution to help Maya. It would be a chance for her to regain her strength, without risking further weight gain. She might even be able to get down to a more manageable weight, which would allow her to have surgery without risk.
