Animal Webaction visited the site 03 March 2023 and confirms the situation described below.

1. In Romania, Ramona is almost out of kibble to feed the 81 dogs in her shelter. They will starve if no one helps!

%%%

"The number of dogs in my care has increased, due to the same old reasons: many dogs end up abandoned on the streets, because they are not sterilized at the right time by their owners, if at all... Unfortunately, lately we have not had any adoptions either. It seems that no one wants to adopt and it's hard for me to say why. Even the few purebred dogs I have under my care have received no attention whatsoever, which is surprising.

The only explanation I can come up with is that everyone is affected by inflation: this is reflected in the donations we receive, which are down significantly, and also in the interest in adoptions, or lack thereof... Even people living abroad are worried about their increasing daily expenses, so they don't donate anymore, and they don't adopt either.

I do my best to feed my dogs properly, but in this context, it is far from easy. The biggest problem I face is the lack of kibble, because even the low quality kibble is much more expensive than before! This is the only range I can buy, but it is tasteless and odorless, the dogs barely want to eat it... And today I have very little left, just enough for one more day. Without this campaign, I really don't know how I will be able to feed my dogs... Success is my only option!"

2. Malnutrition affects the many fragile dogs in the shelter and prevents Ramona from saving other dogs in distress... This kibble campaign is vital for all!

###

"Some dogs have digestive problems because of the poor quality kibble, others have lost weight... This food is not nutritious enough and I don't know what to do. I have already pawned a lot of my belongings to buy kibble, and I feel very bad because I still can't feed my dogs properly! We have dogs with epilepsy, dogs with tumors, cancer... A poor diet in the long run could make their diseases recur any time, and without kibble, I won't be able to save any more dogs in distress either...

With the increasing number of stray dogs and the very difficult conditions they live in, not being able to help them more makes me really sad. Especially since no one else around here is helping stray dogs. Best case scenario, people ignore them or chase them away. Worst case, and unfortunately not the most rare scenario... they abuse them.

I can't remain impassive in the face of animal abuse, and philosophically speaking, I can't bring myself to turn my back on an animal in need either. But unfortunately, the current economic situation and lack of resources are like my worst nightmare come true... I can no longer feed my dogs properly, nor help all these animals decently. I have no choice but to beg you to help us get kibble!"

3. Dulceata's health is far too fragile to survive further kibble deprivation!

###

"Dulceata is around 5 years old, I found her in town. She had been hit by a car and could not move... I took her to the vet and against all odds, with daily treatment and massage, her mobility problem got better!  Surprisingly enough, while she was still paralysed, everyone wanted to adopt her; but after she recovered, nobody was interested anymore... So she remains under my responsibility until someone deigns to look at her, and it is my duty to feed her properly !

Due to her past health issues and trauma, the lack of kibble has a particular impact on Dulceata. As soon as the portions are reduced, her behaviour is altered; and there is no doubt that if the kibble shortage were to last, her health would be the next to take a hit..."

4. Alone, left without donations or help, Ramona desperately needs kibble to keep the dogs from starving.

###

"Our shelter is funded by donations, but these are very low at the moment. In fact, apart from a few sponsorships, we haven't received anything at all. It's true, I don't post every day on social media to ask for help, but that's because I can't! I'm on the ground looking after the dogs... On site it's just me and my family looking after the dogs, we don't have any volunteers or staff, and I don't see how we could pay them anyway...

My husband tried to support the shelter by working in Germany, but because of my poor health it was impossible for me to take care of the shelter alone. So he had to come back and is unfortunately unemployed now, which makes our financial situation very difficult. We have accumulated debts to our kibble shop and to our vet for vaccinations and treatments. Personally, I have also stopped going to my doctor for diabetes check-ups, as I prefer to prioritise my dogs' needs over my own...

We benefited from an Animal Webaction campaign last year and thanks to it, we had a few good months; thanks to the kibble we received of course, but also because of the media coverage it brought us, some new people decided to help us. Unfortunately the help was only temporary and our conditions are bad again now... That's why we turn to you today and hope for another miracle to be able to feed our dogs! "

5. Ramona isn't asking for money, only kibble to prevent the dogs from starving.

###

"The animal abuse I witnessed is what drove me to set up my shelter. To be honest, I find it hard to understand why so few people get involved in this cause. Personally, if I see someone hitting a dog or if I see a dog hit by a car, I can't remain unmoved. I stop to check if the dog is okay... Unfortunately in reality, empathy towards animals is not a characteristic that many people in my area share.

It is very difficult to change the mentality of the people around me. Most people here don't understand why they have to neuter their dogs, nor do they take responsibility for the animals in their care. There are no public initiatives to inform people about these issues, no sterilisation campaigns led by the authorities. In the end, I think it is quite easy to determine who is really responsible for such a lack of awareness about animal welfare.

At least in my shelter, the dogs are cared for, identified, neutered, vaccinated and dewormed. The conditions they live in are fine, but I really wish there were more adoptions... I would like all my dogs to have a real family, one that will cherish them until the end and that will offer them better living conditions. Our dogs are all wonderful and they deserve a better life!"

6. If this campaign succeeds, Ramona will not receive any money but 2400 kg of kibble, delivered from Animal Webaction's logistic platform in Romania.

Animal Webaction has a logistics platform in Romania which enables us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles.

7. Ramona's supporters have already done their best, and no new organisations are willing to help her.

"There have been very few donations lately. We have a partnership with an NGO in the Netherlands - they try to collect 4 euros for each dog, but very few of our dogs are sponsored. For example, this month we only received 142 euros. We have another partnership with a German NGO, which sends donations once a year.

We are constantly trying to contact new organisations to get more help, but we always get the same answer: "we already help too many shelters, we can't do anything". Looking after 81 dogs involves a lot of expenses that simply cannot be covered by the few donations we receive. I feel really bad that I have to ask for your help to provide kibble, but I have no choice... I can only rely on this campaign to feed my dogs!"

8. Campaigns launched on Animal Webaction often fail

When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The beneficiary doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.

9. In Romania, it is difficult to find funds for kibbles, there are no aid, no grants, no foundation... Many abandoned dogs die alone in the streets, in complete indifference...
