Animal Webaction visited the site 19 June 2023 and confirms the situation described below.

1. In Morocco, Hanane is running out of kibble to feed her shelter's 195 dogs. They will starve if no one helps!

%%%

"The shelter currently houses 195 dogs , with a recent intake of 13 new rescues... There are more and more abandoned dogs, often injured or ill, to care for. With no recent adoptions, it's increasingly difficult for me to care for and feed all these dogs.

The shelter's funding is becoming unsustainable: for over 3 years now, donations have only decreased, and our situation is very critical. Inflation is exacerbating the situation, with all the prices going up, which is having an impact on our work and the running of the shelter, starting with the price of kibble...

The dogs only eat once a day now and, to save the kibble I have left, I have to reduce the portions I distribute... In other words, they're not eating their fill. And in a few days, I won't have any kibble left! I feel desperate and alone in this situation. I have no choice, this campaign has to succeed to ensure that I can feed my dogs!"

2. The dogs in Hanane's care are already suffering the harmful effects of the lack of kibble: they are fighting and losing weight!

###

"Hunger is taking its toll at the shelter: the dogs are fighting and biting each other, they're no longer obedient and they're losing weight... The dominance dynamic is much more intense and I'm afraid that survival of the fittest is going to take hold for a long time to come; the most submissive and fragile dogs are at risk of becoming very ill, and if the kibble shortage continues, they're all going to end up seriously injured... I'm very worried about this and I'm afraid I won't be able to treat them, because I don't have the resources!

I also look after over 150 street dogs in various places... Normally, whenever I go out, I never forget to take a bag of kibble with me for the strays. But now I really don't have enough for them and I've even had to resort to skipping feeding sites and rounds... If the campaign fails, I'll have to stop rescuing and feeding strays for good. My dogs at the shelter will have to survive on stale bread, but the consequences for their health will be more than disastrous..."

3. Sym was badly burned: traumatised and emaciated, his recovery entirely depends on this kibble delivery!

###

"Sym is a one-year-old male with a tough history... He came to us less than two months ago with severe burns to his leg, the origin of which is unknown to me... But judging by his behaviour, he seems to have been traumatised by humans; he is not only affected physically, but mentally too. He's very scared and shy of humans.

He's very thin and is struggling to gain strength and weight... I'm worried about his condition, we don't want his burns to become infected! And I know that it's only with quality kibble that he'll be able to recover and that I'll be able to earn his trust. It's vital that this campaign succeeds, so that he can recover from his mental and physical wounds!"

4. Inflation and the lack of donations are severely limiting Hanane's actions: this campaign is all she has left in order to feed her dogs!

###

"With the lack of funds and donations, supplying kibble is too hard, especially as I have no income - I constantly have to scrape by to try and get kibble. I'm so short of resources that I often can't pick up a dog in distress because I simply can't afford to pay for the petrol needed to make the journey! It's horrible...

To make matters worse, I have huge debts with my vet, and even though I have an association discount to have dogs sterilised, I can't get by... The sad thing is that a lot of people are also in very precarious situations; sometimes people who come to visit the shelter ask me if I can give them some kibble, even though I'm desperately short of it myself! With so little help and so few resources, I really only have this campaign left to keep my dogs from dying of hunger..."

5. Hanane isn't asking for money, only kibble to prevent the dogs from starving.

###

"My commitment to animal protection goes back to my childhood, when I used to feed stray dogs... And here I am today, running a shelter with hundreds of dogs in my care! I offer a safe place to abandoned dogs who are not suited to life on the streets: I feed them, look after them and have them sterilised.

There aren't many of us at the association. I have two employees who are the shelter's guardians... Unfortunately, volunteers don't make long-term commitments. I'd like to be able to take more dogs in and make more people aware of animal welfare as well as the importance of sterilisation, and for more people to get involved in helping us.

It hurts my heart to see dogs suffering from abuse, malnutrition and neglect... Unfortunately, there has been no significant change to protect animals and guarantee their safety. That's why my actions here are so important. Any resistance I may encounter will never affect my determination to help the dogs!"

6. If this campaign succeeds, Hanane will not receive any money but 2000 kg of kibble, delivered from the Animal Webaction's logistics centre in Morocco.

Animal Webaction has a logistics centre in Morocco, which allows us to intervene quickly and deliver kibble.

7. Despite her supporters' aid and her calls for help, Hanane can no longer cope on her own: she can no longer buy kibble...

"I'm lucky enough to have a sponsor who helps me pay the shelter's rent... Otherwise, I don't have any other partnerships, and at the moment, donations are almost non-existent, because times are so hard. The crisis is hitting everyone, even generous donors who can't give as often as they used to.

I'm trying to raise funds and collect kibble by making appeals for help on my Facebook page, but it's not enough. For several months now, my requests for help, my fund-raising efforts and my kibble collections have had little success...

I'm at the end of my tether and I can't cope on my own any more. I need people's support now more than ever. I'm extremely grateful to Animal Webaction and to everyone who will be taking part in this campaign! I can't buy kibble anymore and from now on, this delivery will be my only hope of feeding my dogs."

8. Campaigns launched on Animal Webaction often fail...

Liste des récoltes échouées

When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The beneficiary doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.

9. In Morocco, donors are scarce, and there are no foundations or subsidies. It is very difficult to find funding for kibble, many dogs remain starving on the street!
