1. In Serbia, Zuzana is almost out of kibble to feed the 93 dogs in her shelter. They will starve if no one helps!

"We now have 93 dogs to care for at the shelter, not counting those at my home and those of other volunteers. As more and more people go abroad in the spring and summer, many abandon their dogs on the street... Over the past few months, we've had to take in several females, each with her own litter of puppies.

Unfortunately, our funding has dwindled a lot recently. We're receiving fewer and fewer donations, both locally and internationally, and it's getting really worrying! I understand that times are hard for many, but it's painful to see the direct impact this has on our dogs. I'm often forced to ration kibble, as our reserves are dwindling fast. At present, we have around 35 kg left. To give you an idea, that's barely enough to feed them for another day!

The weight of this responsibility can be overwhelming. Being at the shelter every day, year after year, these dogs have become more than just animals in my care - they are my companions, my friends. it's heartbreaking to think that I can't even provide them with something as basic as kibble..."

2. The looming shortage of kibble poses a significant threat to the dogs' health and well-being; Zuzana fears a dire outcome...

###

"The consequences of poor nutrition are immediate for the dogs. They get diarrhea, and with each episode they lose essential nutrients. This is particularly worrying for the most vulnerable dogs. Without kibble, they risk getting worse, and the others, risk becoming sick...

I can never really breathe or relax because there's always this worry hanging over the kibble supply. This persistent uncertainty eats away at me! Maybe this campaign will relieve some of that pressure... But if it fails, it won't just be a complication, it'll be a real blow to us!

Kibble is really what makes the difference between a healthy dog and a weak, unhappy one. The domino effect that the failure of this campaign would have, particularly on the most vulnerable ones, is simply unbearable to imagine..."

3. Mazli struggles to put on weight and nurse her puppies: they all need kibble to survive!

###

"We received a heartbreaking call about Mazli. She had just given birth in a foxhole. When we found her, she was extremely thin and suffering from severe diarrhea. It's been a few months now, and although her condition has improved, Mazli still has diarrhea and is struggling to gain weight. Her puppies still depend on her for milk, but without kibble, she can't nurse them to the level they need. This campaign is her only chance to regain her strength and feed her puppies properly."

4. Donations have plummeted in the past few months; Zuzana's debts are piling up... She urgently needs help to feed her dogs!

###

"Donations have fallen sharply recently. On all sides, the support we were counting on is dwindling. The grant promised by the city has not materialized, and we now receive only about a third of what our supporters in Germany and Hungary used to send us. Kibbles are still our priority, but with this significant drop in donations, we're finding it very hard to get any! There was a time when our dogs enjoyed a mixture of kibble and cooked meat... Those days are a distant memory as our resources become ever more limited.

And it doesn't stop with kibble. We used to be able to buy combination vaccines, which offer better protection against various diseases. Now, we're limited to the most basic vaccines. What's more, some of our dogs, especially the more fragile ones, require specific medication, surgery... All these expenses have completely unbalanced our budget, especially in these inflationary times!

We're in debt - for kibble, veterinary bills, and the electricity needed to run our shelter. Faced with this situation, I have no choice but to dip into my personal funds to make up the deficit. But my resources are far from sufficient... The supply of kibble is a constant preoccupation and without your support, I don't know how we'll manage. Every time I meet my dogs' eyes, I remember the promise I made to them: to look after them and cherish them. And I feel like I'm betraying them..."

5. Zuzana isn't asking for money, only kibble to prevent the dogs from starving.

###

"From the simple act of feeding strays on the streets, my journey has been quite an adventure. What started as a small effort to save the most vulnerable turned into something I could never have imagined: a shelter with a hundred dogs! Over the years, there have been so many moments when everything seemed to be falling apart around me. But every time the situation became critical, somehow we got back on our feet.

There's something about the darkest moments that brings out the light in some people. Just when I'm about to lose hope, kind souls appear. Sometimes it's a new face willing to volunteer, other times it's an unexpected gift, or someone opening their home to one of our dogs. These moments, these people, rekindle my faith and drive me on. I hope that this phenomenon will occur today with this campaign, and that we'll be able to feed our dogs over the coming period... That's all we want!"
