"The stock of kibble is almost exhausted, and I'm struggling to feed the cats in my care properly, whether at the shelter or on the streets. Portions for the cats at the shelter have been reduced for weeks, and for the street cats it's even more critical. I can only bring them insignificant scraps to eat.
Malnutrition leaves visible and appalling traces. Some cats are so weakened they can barely move. Others fall victim to diseases and infections directly caused by this shortage. At the shelter, tensions are palpable. Fights are increasingly frequent, resulting in numerous injuries. With a heavy heart, I have to admit that I have lost some of my residents due to this cruel lack of kibble...
I never thought I'd experience a crisis of this magnitude. These cats, who depend entirely on me for food, are in danger. The gravity of the situation is beyond anything I've ever experienced. And this crisis, far from easing, is only getting worse..."
"The absence of kibble puts cats in a highly vulnerable position. Diseases spread quickly without the right food to strengthen them. Without this precious kibble, I'm afraid the weakest among them won't last more than a few days...
Hunger affects not only their bodies, but also their behavior. Stress is palpable at the shelter, and even the most docile cats now seem on the alert, ready to attack for a mere crumb. Injuries are becoming more and more frequent. In the streets, some cats, driven by their survival instinct, might wander even further away, exposing themselves to further danger, or worse, being tempted to eat what could be fatal to them.
What I fear most if this shortage continues is that all my efforts to protect and care for them will come to nothing... The kittens, so fragile, and the old cats, already weakened by age, will be the first to suffer. Every day that goes by without kibble puts them at risk, threatening their delicate existence. I wonder how many of them will last if nothing changes..."
"I approached several suppliers and local stores to see if it was possible to negotiate prices or get donations of kibble. Unfortunately, my efforts were to no avail. I even tried my luck with appeals on social media, hoping that the generosity of the online community would kick in. The response was far less than I had hoped.
To try and fill the gap, I solicited private donations, hoping that a few generous souls would help us buy these precious cat food items. I also considered a sponsorship program where people could directly support a cat by offering kibble, but again, the response was timid. In a moment of desperation, the idea of selling some of the shelter's possessions crossed my mind. But every object, every corner of the shelter is important to the cats' well-being.
Despite all these attempts, the reality is that the shortage persists. The cats, whom I strive to protect every day, find themselves in danger for lack of this essential food. Their survival now depends more than ever on kibble. And without it, I fear the worst for these innocent beings who have asked for nothing."
"For everything to run smoothly at the shelter, for everyone to be happy, we need kibble. It's quite simple. Kibbles aren't just food, they're the glue that holds the cats together. Thanks to kibble, meals go smoothly and conflicts are rare.
Without kibble, it's hard to avoid veterinary emergencies, because a well-fed cat is often a healthy cat. And for sick and injured cats arriving at the shelter, kibble plays a vital role in their recovery. But my remaining stock is very, very low. And as a direct consequence, I sometimes find myself in the heartbreaking position of having to refuse to help a cat who turns up at my door...
All the efforts, all the years spent building up this shelter seem to have come to nothing. For these vulnerable cats, kibbles are their lifeline. Without them, I fear that these animals, whom I've worked so hard to save from the streets, will return to their former precariousness, wiping out everything we've built together."
"Every day, I open the doors of my shelter to abandoned and abused animals, offering them a glimmer of hope and safety. Recently, as the number of cats in need has increased, the weight of my responsibility has grown heavier, and the need for kibble more pressing.
But my fight isn't limited to feeding these cats. It also involves raising community awareness of the importance of caring for these vulnerable lives. And even if I sometimes feel the incomprehension of some, the silent gratitude of a rescued cat is an immense reward for me.
The days when I have no outside support seem endless, yet I hang in there because the survival of these cats is my number one priority. Living in a country that doesn't care about animal welfare makes my mission for these cats more crucial, but also lonelier than ever..."
