Coughing, shortness of breath, fatigue: poor Athos has serious heart problems!

1. He is suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder…

Athos is a 16-year-old German Shepherd suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. He requires treatment or else he has moments of absence and attacks without reason.

2. He has a serious heart problem!

Athos is constantly short of breath, tired, and coughing because he has cardiomyopathy (his heart no longer pumps blood efficiently). Aside from reducing his symptoms, there is nothing more we can do as this is an incurable condition…

3. He has a tumor in his prostate…

Athos also has a tumor in his prostate. He does not suffer from it, but it needs to be monitored. Unfortunately, due to his heart problem, it is not possible to operate on him (he would not tolerate anesthesia).

4. Canned food would give him strength

A sufficiently nutritious and balanced diet would help Athos regain his energy. Given regularly, such appetizing food would also help calm him down. It would also make it easier for him to take his medication.

5. We had to resume taking in animals…

We are in the peak season of abandonments, and all shelters are overwhelmed. Therefore, we have started taking in animals again because we cannot turn a blind eye to animal suffering… But the new dogs that have arrived require extensive veterinary care. Our finances are at an all-time low!
