1. In Serbia, Natalija and Snezana are out of kibble to feed the 145 dogs in their shelter. They will starve if no one helps!

%%%

"Our situation is critical: we've run out of kibble! We give the dogs bread because we have nothing else, but it's not enough. It's a poor substitute for the rich food these dogs need to stay strong and fight off disease. It's like putting a band-aid on a deep wound...

145 adult dogs and 11 puppies depend on us for their survival, and without kibble, their health deteriorates daily. They're starting to lose weight, and with every kilo they lose, their immune systems weaken a little more. It's heartbreaking to see them like this!

We're very worried. This kibble shortage is a crisis affecting our dogs' present, and jeopardizing their future. We promised every dog we took in here that we'd give them a better life, and we feel like we're failing... We pray that this campaign will be the way to bring them the kibble they so desperately need, before it's too late...".

2. Already plagued by malnutrition, the dogs' immune systems deteriorate by the day without kibble!

###

"Dogs are losing weight, and this physical change is a sign of something even more worrying: the weakening of their immune systems. If the kibble shortage continues, they may no longer be able to fight off even the most benign infections and illnesses. And then there's the domino effect... If one dog falls ill, the disease can spread rapidly to the others, especially as they are all weakened by a poor diet. A single sick dog could lead to an epidemic that we're ill-equipped to handle, and some of them may not survive... It's hard not to worry about all of them.

The increased risk of fights between dogs is also a major concern. Hunger increases stress and their instinct to protect resources. And while a well-fed dog has the strength to heal from injury, or fight off infection, a weakened dog does not... The solution is clear: we need to fill their bowls to ensure peace and health in our shelter! We are appealing to kind hearts to help us overcome this ordeal... Our dogs give us unconditional love, and now we must mobilize to return that love when they need it most."

3. Donations are plummeting, the situation is desperate: the shelter has nothing left but stale bread to feed the dogs!

###

"We knocked on many doors in the hope of getting a helping hand to feed the dogs at our shelter. We approached local businesses for kibble donations, but their responses were negative. The generosity of former donors was solicited and, to reach a wider audience, campaigns were launched on social networks. Yet the outpouring of digital support has not translated into the kibble we so desperately need.

Kibble manufacturers have been approached for discounts, but these requests have been refused, forcing us to assume the full price of kibble - a price our debts prevent us from achieving! We have set up a table in local markets, in the hope that people shopping there will drop off kibble, but this has not been the case. We've placed boxes in pet shops, where everyone can see them, waiting for them to fill up, but they're always empty. All our attempts have ended in failure. Now that we only have stale bread to feed our dogs, the future looks bleak..."

4. Natalija and Snezana aren't asking for money, only kibble to prevent the dogs from starving.

###

"The shelter operates on a balance that is currently tipping. With our kibble reserves reduced to zero, our ability to help the dogs who depend on us not only for shelter, but also for recovery and survival, is also null. The role of kibble is not limited to filling stomachs; it is also essential for the administration of medication. Some treatments become ineffective if dogs are not properly fed, leading to further health complications...

The ripple effect of this shortage is deeply felt. Even our morale, as volunteers, is down. Although dedicated to the cause, we are confronted with a daily reminder of our limited capacities when we look at the empty shelves... This shortage shakes the very foundations of our mission, which is to rescue, feed and care for every dog, and to promise them a chance of life beyond these walls."

5. Despite the challenges, Natalija and Snezana embrace their roles with dedication, driven by the conviction that every rescue contributes to the collective good.

###

"Each day at the shelter begins with a deep sense of purpose. As we move through the long hours, filled with the constant demands of caring for the dogs, we're acutely aware of the impact of each task. Sleep often becomes secondary, as their needs are our foremost concern. There's always more to be done, more dogs in need of help, yet the hands to assist are few. This reality weighs heavily on us, knowing that for every dog I can aid, there are many more I cannot yet reach.

The lack of local support is a constant challenge. It's a struggle to secure the necessary resources, and each day presents a reminder of the uphill battle we face. The dogs, each with their own story of resilience, are a testament to the urgency of our mission. Their reliance on the shelter and on us, is a powerful motivator. It's a reminder of the critical role we play in their lives, and the profound impact we can make. Despite the challenges, this responsibility is one we embrace wholeheartedly, driven by the belief that each effort, no matter how small, contributes to a greater good!"
