We cannot let the 135 dogs under Ivana’s care starve to death!

Disaster! In Serbia, Ivana has almost no kibble left to feed the street dogs she cares for and those at her shelter, they are going to starve!

Animal Webaction visited the site 03 December 2023 and confirms the situation described below.

1. In Serbia, Ivana is nearly out of kibble to feed the dozens of dogs she cares for in her shelter and on the streets. They will starve if no one helps!

%%%

"I look after 65 dogs in my shelter, and about 70 more on the streets. The number of dogs has increased recently and I'm finding it hard to feed them all. As I only have three days' worth of kibble left, I've had to reduce the portions for the dogs in the shelter. They don't eat enough and the remaining kibble is of poor quality. On the street, I can only give the dogs leftovers, which is far from enough.

This shortage has serious consequences for the dogs. At the shelter, they lose weight, show signs of malnutrition and become weaker. I can't save any more dogs because of this...  Street dogs are also badly affected. They're not just starving, they're getting sick and fighting each other because they're so desperate for food! Their condition is worsening and I fear for the survival of all the dogs in my care if this campaign fails..."

2. With temperatures dropping dangerously, the street dogs' days are numbered if Ivana doesn't find some kibble soon...

###

"The cold can be fatal to dogs if they're not properly fed, especially street dogs. With no shelter to protect themselves, they can't generate the heat they need to survive in harsh climatic conditions without food! The shortage of kibble not only makes them more vulnerable to the cold, but also pushes them to venture outside their usual territories in search of sustenance, risking their health and safety...

As for the shelter's dogs, although they are sheltered, their health and well-being are also threatened by the lack of kibble. They need regular, nutritious meals to stay healthy and prevent the spread of disease among them. Hunger could also increase their aggressiveness due to the stress of competing for limited food resources. This is a very worrying situation... The need for a new supply of kibble is more urgent than ever! I fear that many of these dogs will not survive if we don't get help..."

3. Donations are too rare for Ivana to cope: in debt, she's out of options to feed her dogs!

###

"I've organized several local collection events in an attempt to alleviate the kibble shortage, but these efforts have met with only modest success. At the same time, I contacted local businesses for sponsorship or donations, but received no favorable response. My existing debts certainly didn't help...

My personal appeals to friends, family and people who have already adopted dogs from us have resulted in a few donations, but their contributions, while appreciated, have been too small to provide any significant relief. Despite all these attempts, the kibble crisis is far from over. The dogs in my care are still facing a severe shortage, and I am deeply concerned for their welfare if this situation continues..."

4. Ivana isn't asking for money, only kibble to prevent the dogs from starving.

###

"Without enough kibble, I'm unable to stabilize the dogs' weight and health. Many of them also need medication, which I usually mix with their kibble, but this is becoming very difficult at the moment... The lack of regular meals also makes the dogs restless and unhappy. It's particularly difficult for young dogs and older dogs who really need a good diet to stay healthy.

The shortage also means I can't take in any more rescue dogs, as I simply don't have enough food for them! With the onset of winter, the situation is even more worrying. Kibbles are essential to the dogs' survival during the cold months... The financial burden of running the shelter is immense; and seeing the animals suffer because of limited resources saddens me deeply..."

5. Despite the daily challenges and isolation of her mission, Ivana's love of animals keeps her going.

###

"Looking after over a hundred dogs, many of whom come from the streets or have been neglected, is a daily challenge that requires total commitment on my part. My deep love for animals motivates me, but the reality is often difficult. Every day, I have to make sure these dogs are well cared for, fed... Yet I'm faced with a constant shortage of resources and the struggle to raise public awareness of our situation. The fear of failing, of disappointing the animals I've taken under my wing because of the lack of resources, never leaves me...

Yet, despite these difficulties, the need to continue is obvious. Every gesture to improve the lives of these dogs, to give them the care and affection they deserve, is a step forward. I fight against neglect and abandonment, hoping every day to make a real difference for them. That's what keeps me going, even in the face of adversity!"

6. If this campaign succeeds, Ivana will not receive any money, but 1600 kg of kibble, delivered from the Animal Webaction logistics centre in Serbia.
