Animal Webaction visited the site 23 December 2023 and confirms the situation described below.
"For lack of sufficient donations, I have to resign myself to buying lower quality kibbles by the drop, but these economical options in random quantities fail to meet the dogs' nutritional needs. The dogs don't understand why their meals have changed or why their bowls sometimes remain desperately empty...
I'm overcome with anxiety. I see the few remaining bags being emptied at an alarming rate and I know that without support, buying new kibble will be impossible. It's an unbearable thought, because the health of my dogs depends on it! The refuge, which has always been a haven of peace and safety for these abandoned animals, is now under immense pressure...
Every day that goes by without kibble is one day too many for these animals who rely on us for their survival. Without this campaign, I'm afraid I won't be able to feed them at all! It's too hard to accept, but that's the risk we're running today... We need your help more than ever to avoid this!"
"The prospect of a total shortage of kibble is looming, and it directly threatens the survival of our dogs. Without their usual food, not only will their weight drop rapidly, but their already delicate immune systems will be further weakened. This worries me deeply, because a weakened dog is much more vulnerable to disease and injury...
What's more, hunger has a significant impact on their behaviour. Dogs that are usually calm and affectionate could become unpredictable, anxious and even adopt aggressive behaviour if the lack of kibble continues. This transformation would be heartbreaking for those of us who know and love them! Every day without adequate kibble brings them closer to a reality we don't want to subject them to.
This food crisis creates an urgent and critical need. Without rapid intervention, we risk seeing our dogs' health and behaviour deteriorate irreversibly. It's a situation we're fighting desperately to avoid, but unfortunately we can't do it alone..."
"Our attempts to overcome the kibble crisis have come up against constant obstacles. Despite organising collection events, the results have been disappointing. The search for suppliers offering cheaper kibble has proved fruitless, leaving us with high costs and limited resources.
Approaches to the local authorities, which were supposed to offer support, were unsuccessful. At the same time, our requests for help from the international community have stagnated, with no concrete response. Even our appeals for donations on the networks are proving inconclusive.
Despite our constant efforts, the situation remains critical and the impact on our dogs is becoming increasingly tangible. Every day that goes by without a viable solution increases the risk to their survival! This constant struggle to feed our dogs highlights their vulnerability, and our responsibility towards them..."
"The lack of sufficient kibble is leading to an increase in veterinary care. This extra care puts enormous pressure on our already limited resources. What's more, the lack of kibble affects the positive interactions between dogs. Without adequate nutrition, their behaviour changes, which considerably reduces their chances of being adopted!
Managing health emergencies becomes a major challenge without kibble. Every day without an adequate supply jeopardises our commitment to these animals who depend on us. What's more, the lack of kibble severely limits our ability to take in new dogs... This situation affects us deeply. Without a stable supply of kibble, our entire operation is called into question, and our dogs are in danger!"
"Managing our shelter is a daily struggle, a real race against time. With every day that passes, I feel the weight of my responsibility towards our dogs. Their well-being, their happiness, their survival - it's all on my shoulders. This constant pressure shapes every day.
The lack of local recognition for our efforts is an added burden. It weighs on my morale, constantly reminding me of the challenges we face. Yet despite the constant obstacles, I remain determined to persevere. Every trusting look from our dogs reminds me why I keep going: for them, for their future.
Carrying the weight of each dog's survival is an overwhelming task, but I strive to remain strong. I have to be their pillar, their constant support in an uncertain world. It's a commitment I don't take lightly, a commitment that pushes me forward despite the difficulties."
