Animal Webaction visited the site 28 January 2024 and confirms the situation described below.

1. In North Macedonia, Marija is almost out of kibble to feed the 90 dogs in her shelter. They will starve if no one helps!

"Our shelter houses 90 dogs, we are here to be the voice of these animals here, as they don't even have rights, there must be someone who will speak for them and protect them. We try to give them as much attention and care as we can, they have enough space, beds and blankets, but we lack food.

Just like meds or supplies, food got twice more expensive, and we have been getting less donations lately, so we're really struggling.

We only have enough kibble left for the next 5 days, we haven't been able to find any other option to get help so far, which is why we rely on this campaign. Being left to stay without kibble with all these mouths to feed is our biggest fear."

2. Severely neglected by his former owner, Ziggy is old and weakened by an illness. He needs kibble to help him recover.

"Ziggy was found in a critical condition together with other dying dogs in the yard of a woman from another neighborhood. His owner didn’t take care of the dogs, if we hadn't stepped in, Ziggy and the other dogs would have died of illnesses and starvation.

He suffers from demodex, a skin condition. The other dogs responded well to the therapy, but Ziggy is still struggling, perhaps due to his age. Ziggy is weak and old, he needs to eat well in order to beat the illness."

3. Without kibble, Marija can no longer help dogs in distress, and fears fights and disease will soon break out at the shelter...

"I feel really sad and frustrated, I often cry, especially when I see a homeless dog and I can't afford to take him to the shelter.

The situation in the shelter could get out of control without kibble, as dogs would become aggressive towards each other, we would have to deal with it, as well as with the illnesses caused by malnutrition. It breaks my heart to see the dogs ask for food and know I simply can't give them more.

If this campaign succeeds, we will be able to finally save more dogs and have enough food for every dog under our care, that's what I hope for."

4. Confronted with a drop in both donations and adoptions, Marija can no longer cover all the dogs' needs. She relies on this campaign to get kibble.

"We still manage to have some dogs adopted, but there are less than before, which impacts our ability to buy food as the adoption fees allow us to do so. Now, both adoptions and funding have decreased, so things are very complicated.

We've had to spend money we had for food to get the meds for some of our ill dogs, we still have to spay them, put chips, give them medical treatment, there is no way we can give up on dogs' health for the sake of food, we cannot choose between feeding them and treating them, as both are vital!

However, considering the dynamic of donations, we cannot provide everything they need right now, which is why we need help, as these dogs are here, and we care about them."

5. Marija isn't asking for money, only kibble to prevent the dogs from starving.

"I take care of these dogs, feed them, clean their place, drive them to the vet and back, monitor their health, socialize them. I'm here literally every day. Taking care of these dogs has become my daily routine, I do everything I can for them and I can't imagine my life without them.

Our main goal is to save as many dogs as possible, and eventually change the situation with the homeless dogs in Macedonia. With our help dogs get spayed, cured, adopted, there is less aggression on the streets, and people abuse the street dogs less as we try to educate them.

People need to understand that people and animals have the same value, it's just animals are more vulnerable and they have no voice, that's why it is a duty of a human to protect the animals and help them live a better life."

6. If this campaign succeeds, Marija will not receive any money but 1800 kg of kibble, delivered from Animal Webaction's logistics platform in Macedonia.

Animal Webaction has a logistics centre in Macedonia which enables us to intervene quickly and deliver kibble.

7. Campaigns launched on Animal Webaction often fail.

When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The beneficiary doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.

9. In Macedonia, neither the state nor the population wants to help the abandoned dogs. A lot of animals are left to die outside, there is no care for them. Volunteers like Marija are their only hope.
