Struck by giardiasis, the young Arizona almost lost his life!

1. He lost a lot of weight due to an intestinal parasite!

Arizona is a young hedgehog, less than a year old, who we took into our care at the end of October 2023. Poor Arizona had contracted giardiasis, an intestinal disease caused by a parasite. He had lost so much weight that we feared for his life!

Fortunately, a suitable treatment has managed to rid him of this parasite. As he is still in the process of recovering, we plan to keep him under close observation for another two months.

2. Blankets would keep him warm

A set of blankets will provide a warm and comfortable environment for Arizona as he continues his recovery. This will make it easier for him to maintain a stable body temperature. Resting in a safe and cosy environment would do him a world of good, after all he’s been through!

3. We need your help!

Since our establishment, our association has cared for 160 hedgehogs in 2023 and already 11 in 2024, all while conducting awareness activities and interventions within schools.

On average, the hedgehogs we help stay in our centre for 43 days, a duration that can be extended for those recovering or hibernating. Our dedicated hedgehog care centre relies primarily on the donations of individuals, as we do not have any subsidies yet... Your assistance in providing canned food and blankets would be of considerable support!
