1. In Bosnia, Maya is almost out of kibble to feed her shelter’s 60 dogs. They will starve if no one intervenes!

%%%

"In the last few weeks we have rescued 16 puppies who had been on the streets for god knows how long... The recent increase in the number of dogs, coupled with a decrease in donations, has placed us in a very precarious situation: our kibble stock is nearly depleted! We are forced to reduce the portions we give to our dogs to stretch the remaining bags. But the kibble is of poor quality, and it's not enough to satisfy the dogs' hunger...

The dogs are suffering from malnutrition, and it's painful to see that they're not eating enough! I've noticed a significant decline in their energy levels, which concerns me greatly... At this point, the success of this campaign is crucial: it's our only way of replenishing our stock of kibble and avoiding a long-term impact on the dogs' health!"

2. The lack of kibble seriously threatens the dogs' health, hampers chances of rescue and compromises the group's dynamic: Maya fears for the weakest dogs!

###

"Without a constant and nutritious diet to maintain their immune system, dogs risk becoming vulnerable to diseases, their bodies unable to fight as effectively as they should. This worries me a lot, especially for the weaker or recently rescued dogs who rely on proper nutrition to recover and grow stronger.

The prolonged absence of kibble also risks introducing a stressful dynamic among the dogs, and disrupting the harmony we strive to maintain in the shelter. I fear that the dogs' survival instincts might take over, and they start fighting over the limited food... It's a possibility I can't bear to imagine!

This situation also directly impacts our ability to rescue more dogs. We can't save them if we have nothing to feed them! We are at an impasse: unable to properly meet the needs of the dogs in our care, and to extend our help to those in need...!"

3. Maya has knocked on every door for help but has only been met with refusals: she desperately needs kibble to feed her dogs!

###

"I have sought help everywhere I could to obtain kibble. I started with my closest circle, asking friends and family. I even turned to our neighbors, explaining our desperate situation and the fate of the dogs under our care. But the responses have been scarce, with only a few contributions trickling in.

My calls for community support via social media and my requests for grants from animal protection organizations have also not yielded the expected results. Not one to give up easily, I also contacted dog food suppliers to negotiate discounts, which could have helped us stretch our limited funds. Their responses were unanimous: rejections, citing their own constraints or policies preventing them from helping.

The difficulty of finding dog food is a stark reminder of the daily obstacles we face, not only in caring for the dogs but also in mobilizing the necessary support for our cause! This kibble campaign is our only lifeline..."

4. Maya is not asking for money, only kibble to keep the dogs from starving.

###

"The need to find kibble dictates my daily activities: from dawn till dusk, every decision is influenced by this pressing need. This singular focus means that other important tasks and improvements for the shelter must be put on hold. Plans to expand our facilities, improve living conditions for the dogs, and even routine maintenance tasks are postponed, all in an effort to ensure we have enough food for the dogs.

My attention is constantly divided, trying to balance the immediate needs of the dogs with long-term strategies for the shelter. This imbalance forces me into a reactive mode, dealing with problems as they arise rather than being able to proactively plan.

The kibble shortage is a concern that affects all my decisions and stresses me daily, as it compromises the sustainability of our fight. The foundation of our mission, to save and care for these dogs, is threatened when we cannot provide them with their most basic necessity!"

5. In a context indifferent to animal welfare, Maya draws her strength from the small daily victories and the gratitude of the dogs she manages to save.

###

"In our region, animal welfare is not a priority. It's disheartening to witness the neglect that animals suffer. It's not easy, especially when few people around us understand why we should care for animals...

Fortunately, there are also good moments, like a successful adoption or the recovery of an animal. The gratitude of those we've helped reminds me why we persevere. Seeing a happy dog or a person grateful for their new pet gives me the energy to continue! Even though we face big problems, these small victories remind me why I do this work, and show me that I can still make a difference for some dogs!"
