Animal Webaction visited the site 17 March 2024 and confirms the situation described below.
"For over ten days, we've been forced to ration the kibble portions for the dogs at the shelter, and we've just emptied our last bags... The consequences of this shortage are immediate and painful: the dogs are losing weight at an alarming rate, and their health deteriorates day by day. Veterinary visits are becoming more frequent, a situation that severely strains our limited financial and human resources!
Out in the streets, the situation is no less bleak: currently, we can only distribute stale bread to the dogs, which is far from meeting their nutritional needs. We've also had to suspend our rescue operations. We simply cannot take in more dogs if we are incapable of feeding those already under our protection. This kibble campaign is more than a need: it's our last hope to ensure the survival of all the dogs relying on us entirely!"
"If we fail to secure kibble soon, I fear the consequences could be irreversible for our protégés. Their already precarious condition will only worsen, making them vulnerable to diseases, exacerbating tensions and fights over the scarce resources available. At the shelter, the weakest, already weakened by their past of abuse or injury, might not survive. This prospect is unbearable!
Street dogs, driven by hunger, could venture onto busy roads, increasing the risk of accidents. Their search for food and rummaging through trash in inhabited areas might also lead to conflicts with local communities, or even aggressive behavior in starving dogs; thus compromising our future rescue efforts. Every day without kibble brings us closer to a point of no return! The survival of the dogs hangs by a thread, reliant on the success of this campaign."
"I've tried multiple approaches to secure a kibble supply. I've set up donation boxes around the city, made calls on social media, and even tried to establish a subscription system for regular donations, but the results have been disappointing. My initiatives struggle to reach a wide enough audience, and the economic crisis has anyway emptied the pockets of many potential supporters...
I've contacted local businesses for regular donations or even discounts on kibble prices, but they are hesitant to commit. Even the awareness workshops organized in schools have led to few tangible contributions. My pleas for help to international associations have faced endless procedures. This series of failures only adds to my daily anguish, making me fear for the future of my paws!"
"Without adequate food, the foundations on which our mission stands are shaken. Our ability to take in new distressed dogs is significantly reduced; each rescue operation must be carefully weighed, knowing that our food resources are now limited...
The shortage also affects our ability to provide a stable and reassuring environment for dogs who have already suffered so much instability in their lives. A well-fed dog is more receptive to care, training, and socialization, essential steps for them to find a loving home. Without this, their behavior may remain marked by fear and mistrust, making their adoption more complicated. A fearful or sick animal is often seen as a potential burden by prospective adopters!
Simply put: without kibble, all our work collapses... Its absence questions our ability to protect, to heal, and above all, to promise a better future for these sensitive beings. Every day without kibble is a step back in the fight for their survival and wellbeing!"
"Every day I'm confronted with animal suffering... My inability to adequately address it with the limited resources at my disposal often overwhelms me with profound sadness. This situation is all the more difficult as our action regularly faces a lack of awareness about the fate of these animals within our local community. And the legal void on these matters only increases the obstacles to overcome to fulfill our mission...
Despite these significant challenges, every small success in our struggle is a major victory. The rescue of a dog, its rehabilitation, and placement in a loving home are our rewards. These precious moments remind me why I continue this fight, despite the difficulties and disappointments.
I dream of a world where my fight for the welfare of dogs would no longer be necessary, a world where every animal would be respected and loved as they deserve. Until that dream becomes reality, I remain determined to do everything within my power to alleviate their suffering, with the hope that one day, we will achieve lasting change for these animals who rely on us..."
