1. In Serbia, Svetlana is running out of kibble to feed the 204 dogs she cares for in her shelter. They'll starve if no one helps!
"With only three days of kibble left, the situation is more than critical. I've been forced to ration portions for over a month now, and the quality of the kibble is very poor. I'm trying to make do with what I have, but it's simply not enough. Donations are scarce and the price of kibble keeps rising!
It's so hard to see the dogs hungry, growing weaker. The younger ones are getting nervous and fighting over the little food we have. I'm doing my best to separate them, but some have been injured and now we have even more vet bills to pay...
This campaign is our only lifeline. I'm so worried, not being able to provide for their basic needs is breaking my heart!"
2. At the shelter, the health of the dogs is deteriorating and fights are increasing... Svetlana fears for their survival and must halt any new rescues.
"Many of our rescues are elderly, sick, they need special care and medication. Without kibble, their health will deteriorate further. They may not last long...
Not having enough kibble also means we can't help other animals in need. Every day, we receive calls about injured, sick or abandoned dogs on the street. Our mission is to help them, but without enough food, we're forced to say no! We simply can't risk the survival of the dogs we already have...
It's an impossible choice, having to turn away those who need us when our mission is to save them! We need this kibble, not only for our dogs, but for all the lives we could save if only we had the means..."
3. All of Svetlana's attempts have failed: burdened with debt and at a loss, she is at a dead end when it comes to feeding her dogs!
"I've tried everything. I've contacted all the suppliers, all the charities, all the organizations I could think of. But the answer is always the same: 'Sorry, we can't help.' I've even swallowed my pride and begged the vet and the kibble supplier to extend our credit, but they refused - the debts I already owe them are too great.
I've organized fundraisers online, but contributions are scarce, many people being unable to contribute due to their own economic hardships.
I've considered taking out a personal loan to buy kibble, but my financial situation is already precarious. I'm behind on payments for the shelter bills and the vet bills are piling up... Each of my attempts seems to hit a wall. I feel helpless!"
4. Svetlana isn't asking for money, only kibble to prevent the dogs from starving.
"When we don't have enough kibble, it's not just the dogs that suffer. It's our entire operation. We have to make heart-wrenching decisions about the animals we can take in, knowing full well that those we turn away may not survive on the street. We have to cut back on medical treatments, leaving dogs exposed to disease.
Right now, things are really tough. Adoptions are at an all-time low: people just can't afford to take on a new mouth to feed, no matter how much love they have to give. So our dogs stay with us longer, requiring more resources and care.
But at the same time, donations are down because everyone is tightening their belts. It's a perfect storm of difficulties, and we're right in the middle of it. This isn't begging; it's just the truth. And the truth is, we need help!"
5. Despite her fatigue and sadness, Svetlana shows unfailing determination to protect the most vulnerable beings.
"Fighting for these animals is more than just a job; it's a calling. It's being the voice of those who don't have one, protecting those who are unable to protect themselves. It's looking into their eyes and seeing the reflection of our own humanity.
Yes, it's hard. The responsibility is immense, the resources scarce, the sadness constant. But every life saved is worth it. These animals are so brave, having endured so much suffering yet still retaining that ability to grant their trust and love unconditionally. It's their bravery that inspires me to keep fighting, even when the challenges seem too great to overcome."
6. If this campaign succeeds, Svetlana will not receive any money, but 2000 kg of kibble, delivered from the Animal Webaction logistics centre in Serbia.
