Animal Webaction visited the site 27 September 2024 and confirms the situation described below.
"The shelter is currently home to 65 dogs, and I only have a few days' worth of kibble left, the situation is critical! I've tried every possible way to get more kibble, but the little I manage to find barely scratches the surface of what we need. We can’t keep going like this for much longer...
Every day, calls come in about stray, abandoned, or mistreated dogs. And I have no choice but to turn them away, because I have zero guarantee that I’ll be able to feed them! It’s heartbreaking to feel so powerless, knowing these dogs are out there, alone and starving, and I have to say no just because I don’t have enough kibble. Turning them away is like condemning them...
And then there are the dogs already here at the shelter. The thought that things could get even worse, that I might not even be able to feed them, is terrifying. I can’t let that happen. I have to hold onto the hope that this campaign will help us get through this."
"If I don’t find kibble in time, I know the most fragile dogs won’t make it. Facing hunger and malnutrition on top of everything else is beyond what some of them can handle...
I have dogs here recovering from injuries, some with wounds that still haven’t healed, and others with disabilities, still weak and in need of proper nutrition, they won’t be able to get better without kibble. And sadly, there are also dogs battling illnesses, where no medication will work if they aren’t eating properly.
The fear of not being able to save them keeps me up at night. Some have fought so hard and made so much progress, seeing them end up condemned just because we run out of kibble is unbearable…"
"I’m not sure anyone can truly understand it without experiencing it firsthand, but running a shelter means constantly struggling to manage essential needs every single day. We went through a tough period where several dogs needed urgent treatments and vet care in a very short time.
I made the decision to do what was necessary and treat them, because that’s one of the core responsibilities of a shelter: to care for the dogs when they need it. But all those treatments came at a cost, and I had to use what little money I had set aside for buying kibble…
I thought I’d be able to raise donations elsewhere, whether financial help or kibble donations, but the results have been almost nonexistent. I can handle the rejections and the silence; I even understand it, everyone has their own struggles and priorities. But time is running out, and I need something to work out now, before it’s too late."
"Being at the shelter, taking care of these dogs, is a life lesson every single day. I’ve learned patience, compassion, loyalty, and, above all, I’ve learned never to give up, to always believe that things can get better.
I’ve faced crises more times than I can count, moments where I thought I’d never make it through, but somehow, I always did. I’ve seen dogs arrive here in heartbreaking conditions, often after going through unimaginable experiences, and I’ve seen them heal and rediscover the joy of living.
They are the reason I keep going: to give them a chance, to be their voice, even when everything seems overwhelming and some battles feel impossible to win. Because, in reality, you never know. They’re here to remind me of that every day, to reignite my hope when it starts to fade."
