Animal Webaction visited the site 24 November 2024 and confirms the situation described below.
"The number of dogs in our care has skyrocketed, and most of them are puppies—at least twenty, if not more. People keep dropping them off at our door... But with all these arrivals, our need for kibble is growing at a pace we can’t keep up with! And our supplies are running out far too quickly.
We’ve been rationing kibble for two weeks now to stretch what little we have left, adding bread so that everyone gets at least something to eat. We tried buying rice to supplement, but even that has become too expensive.
What’s left will only last four or five more days, at best. The dogs are tense, growling, fighting over the smallest amount of kibble. The stress is mounting—for them and for me... I feel completely helpless. I no longer know how to give them what they need to get through this. Winter is coming, and it’s going to be brutal. Without kibble, I don’t see how we’ll make it through..."
"The dogs are starting to get restless. Some are scared, while others are already turning aggressive, fighting over the tiniest scrap of food. I don’t even want to imagine how far this aggression could go if I can’t find a way to replenish our stocks.
And that’s the real problem: without kibble to feed those already here, we won’t be able to take in any more. We’ll have to stop rescuing dogs, and even those we’ve already saved will suffer even more! Just thinking about it breaks my heart.
I feel defeated. All I want is for them to have enough to eat—just that. Everything else comes second, including me..."
"We’re going through a really tough time. Donations have dropped significantly, we get no support from the government, and debts are piling up everywhere: at the vet, for water, for everything. It’s an enormous amount, and the creditors have already been waiting far too long.
Adoptions aren’t happening either. We managed to place just one dog recently. One. And all the while, dogs keep arriving at our doorstep, but no one takes any home... I understand that many people are struggling and can’t afford to feed another animal. But the problem is, neither can we!
For 35 puppies, we’ve only managed to raise 90 euros. That’s not even enough to properly feed one puppy, let alone all of them... The cost of kibble is outrageous; everything is getting more expensive. The situation is becoming unbearable."
"In 2018, I opened this shelter after returning from Australia. I couldn’t bear what I was seeing here—so many stray dogs in heartbreaking conditions, abused, struggling for food, for survival... It all started modestly. I never imagined I would end up with so many dogs under my care, and the truth is, there’s still so much to be done.
People need to understand the importance of responsible pet ownership, sterilization, and showing animals respect. That’s the hard part too. Once people know you’re here, they see you as the solution to their problems.
Still, I know this shelter matters. I do this for the animals. Here, they’re not alone. They have a roof over their heads, a place where no one hurts them. Most importantly, they have someone who truly cares about them."
