1. In Serbia, Svetlana has no more kibble to feed the 260 dogs at her shelter. They will starve to death if no one steps in to help!
"Rescues never stop—just in the past few days, we’ve taken in 7 puppies and 3 dogs. More and more litters, more abandoned puppies... and more mouths to feed. Today, 260 dogs rely on us at the shelter, and we’ve just emptied the very last bag of kibble...
It’s already been two weeks since I started rationing portions, because we had no choice. And now, there’s nothing left. I’ll have to find alternatives: bread, leftover meat... makeshift solutions that fall terribly short for a problem that’s become a ticking time bomb. Food is a basic need—it’s non-negotiable!
I’m desperate. I’ve knocked on every door: contacted restaurants, written to organizations... anything you can imagine, I’ve tried it. But nothing has worked. I’m placing all my hopes in this campaign—it’s truly our only chance to get kibble for our dogs."
2. Undernourished for two weeks, the dogs are growing weaker and more restless : Svetlana fears what will happen if the appeal fails...
“For two weeks now, my dogs have been underfed, with reduced kibble portions. The tension is rising, gradually... The dogs won’t stop barking, they’re getting more and more restless, especially at mealtime. Now that we’ve run out of kibble, I honestly fear the worst...
I try to give them bread just to ease the hunger a little, but it only helps for a short time. It’s not nutritious, and it doesn’t actually fill them up. And many of the dogs we take in here are large breeds—they need significant amounts of food to stay healthy.
Without kibble, everything deteriorates fast: their health, their behavior. I try not to think about what would happen if this campaign fails—truthfully, it’s too painful...This kibble—it saves lives. That’s the truth. And today, helping us get more would be one of the most beautiful things anyone could do for them!"
3. Barely rescued from abuse, little Bela urgently needs kibble to heal from her trauma and grow up healthy.
“Bela is only two months old. I rescued her from a group of children who were playing with her cruelly—throwing her up in the air like she was just a toy! No living being, especially one this young, should ever be treated that way. Since then, Bela has been deeply wary of humans, scarred by the trauma.
She urgently needs kibble to grow up healthy. She’s currently going through her vaccination protocol, and good nutrition is essential to help her body stay strong and develop properly.
Any deficiency at this critical stage could have long-lasting effects on her growth, and her entire life. This is a pivotal moment for Bela. We can’t let her down!"
4. In debt, isolated, and exhausted, Svetlana holds on to one last hope: getting kibble before it’s too late.
“Our financial situation is full of ups and downs—mostly downs, if I’m being honest... Right now, I’m 10,000 euros in debt. I try to chip away at the most urgent bills, but honestly, it’s like putting a Band-Aid on a broken leg.
I’ve sent over 50 emails to various organizations, with no success so far. Our only organizational support comes from a Dutch association, but even that fluctuates based on their own means.
The lack of stable funding has very real, very harsh consequences: we’re often forced to buy low-quality kibble—when we can buy any at all—and veterinary care is constantly postponed. Right now, 15 dogs are waiting to be sterilized, but we’re stuck. With the debt weighing on us, we can’t move forward.
I know times are tough for everyone, and I know what we’re asking is huge. But it’s a request we have to make—because hundreds of dogs’ lives depend on it. I have no problem begging if it means my dogs can have the kibble they need to survive..."
5. Svetlana isn’t asking for money, just kibble so the dogs don’t starve.
“Seeing dogs suffer—it breaks my heart, deeply. That’s why I started all this, so many years ago. I’ve always taken in the hardest cases, the most desperate situations. Sometimes it all gets so overwhelming, I wonder how I’m still going, still standing.
Most of the time, I feel incredibly alone. Working in animal protection is like falling into a bottomless well—the suffering never seems to end. Few people are willing to lend a hand, to really get involved. It’s already hard enough to find people to work here, let alone volunteers...
Today, my wish is simple: to have enough kibble for everyone. Just to know they won’t go hungry, that they can be happy and safe here. That would be such a huge relief! Every donation—big or small—means the world. Every donation truly saves lives. And there’s nothing more precious than that.
