1. In Serbia, Ivana is running out of kibble to feed the 56 street dogs who depend on her. They will starve if no one helps!
“In recent months, the number of stray dogs has increased :abandonments, again and again… It isn’t new, but it’s still heartbreaking. The more street dogs there are, the harder it is for us to feed them.
We’ve been reducing rations for a month now. The street dogs are hungry; none of them is getting enough to eat. The hungrier they are, the farther they venture in search of food, and the more danger they face… We’ve already had two dogs injured by other strays. While looking for food, they crossed into territory that wasn’t theirs and were bitten.
There are setbacks like that, and then all the daily horrors we have to confront: a few days ago, I found a dog with a gaping wound on his muzzle, clearly a knife slash. At the vet’s, they also discovered pellets embedded all over his head: someone shot him… I don’t know how to cope anymore.
It’s always the same conclusion: without kibble, we can’t protect these dogs! It’s a cycle of misery and suffering that repeats endlessly.”
2. In her shelter, Ivana also cares for 60 vulnerable dogs, who are also at risk due to the lack of kibble!
“At the shelter, the dogs are hungry too. You can see it, especially at mealtimes: they’re nervous, fidgeting all over the place. No wonder—I’ve been cutting their portions for weeks, and I feel terribly guilty. But I simply have no alternative right now.
Without kibble, they’re more vulnerable to disease—especially our many senior dogs, who are already fragile. It’s a constant source of stress; for them and for me, failing to meet their most basic needs is unbearable!
My dogs don’t stand a chance without kibble: they can neither survive nor stay healthy. That’s exactly why I need help to get through this crisis. That’s why this campaign has to succeed…”
3. Abandoned at birth, Cagney’s health is already fragile… If the kibble shortage drags on, he won’t come through unscathed.
"Cagney is barely seven months old. Someone left him outside the shelter when he was only ten days old, along with three other puppies. That’s how his life began—abandoned. We couldn’t turn him away; without us he would never have survived. But being separated from his mother so early meant his immune system never had a chance to strengthen.
If the lack of kibble persists, that already weak immunity will collapse further, and he’ll become an easy target for disease. This is a decisive moment for him: miss it, and Cagney could carry health problems for the rest of his life…"
4. Donations are collapsing, debts are soaring. Ivana fights for help in vain : only this kibble campaign can pull her out of the dead end!
"Our finances are in free fall—catastrophic, really. Donations are almost nil. I posted an urgent plea for kibble on Facebook and got only a handful of replies. It’s not that people don’t care; they simply have nothing left to give. Times are hard for everyone in Serbia—humans and dogs alike.
I’ve knocked on the doors of several charities, but their budgets are already tied up with other shelters. Finding new sponsors is next to impossible. I’ve filled out forms, made calls, sent emails—nothing works. I’m out of options.
The stress is relentless. I owe money to the pet-supply shop and the vet. I’m already struggling with daily costs; handling an emergency would be impossible. If one dog falls ill, I have no idea how I’ll cope.
Kibble is the top priority. If this campaign succeeds, we can channel the rest into medical care and even consider taking in more dogs. These bags of kibble are the cornerstone of everything we do!"
5. Ivana isn’t asking for money, only kibble, so the dogs don’t starve.
"Seeing abused animals day after day is brutal—truly brutal. I’ve been in the field for ten years, and every time I find a dog who’s wounded or sick, it breaks my heart. You never get used to it…
That’s why our shelter matters. Across the country, thousands of dogs need urgent help. Marina, Jelena, and I act for everyone who loves dogs but can’t step in directly. Your support is crucial—it’s genuinely a team effort.
