Patou is a 12-year-old dog, who used to roam the streets of Reunion Island. One day, he was shot in the spine and ended up paralysed! He was able to receive treatment and has gradually redeveloped his muscle strength over time, but his gait remains unsteady.
Following this incident, some of Patou's vertebrae fused together around the chest area (this is known as condylarthrosis).
Because of this, his digestive system no longer functions properly. In particular, he is prone to constipation and has to take psyllium.
A moist diet would help keep Patou well hydrated and minimize the risk of constipation.
By providing him with essential daily vitamins and minerals, such canned food would help him gain energy, while offering much-needed comfort.
We've had a lot of veterinary emergencies which have resulted in significant expenses for the association.
Previously, we used to get discounts on surgeries, but this is no longer possible... As our animals often need them because they're old and/or sick, it's a real problem!
