“In 3 or 4 days—5, if I really stretch it—there will be nothing left. Not a single kibble. And then I’ll be standing in front of 120 dogs, their bowls empty, with no idea what to say to them… For the past nine months, I’ve been running this shelter alone. No breaks, no help. Every day, I do my best. But now, I’m at my limit.
The bags of kibble are nearly empty, and panic is setting in. How do I make them understand that there’s nothing left to eat? That today, I can’t even provide them with the most basic thing: a meal.
When a dog arrives here, it often feels like the end of the story. In reality, it’s the beginning of a demanding routine! They still need food, care, and attention—every single day, without exception. Now more than ever, I truly need a helping hand to keep feeding them…”
“The dogs eat the cheapest kibble on the market… the quality is awful, and I’m already seeing the effects. The sick ones aren’t getting better. Infections keep coming back. Their immune systems are collapsing.
They’re more agitated. They fight more. They pace in circles. And they look at me with those eyes… like they’re asking: ‘Why aren’t you taking care of us?’ I wish I could tell them that I’m doing everything I can—that I’m giving them all I have.
With every passing hour, I’m more afraid… afraid they’ll go hungry, that I’ll watch them grow weaker, that the fights will get worse—just because I can’t even give them the bare minimum. I’m asking for one thing: kibble. Kibble that goes straight into their bowls…
Every bag you send means 120 dogs don’t go to bed hungry. That they don’t fight. That they stay healthy.”
“Marcel is only six months old. He was abandoned near the shelter… He barely survived parvovirus. For seven days, I rushed to the vet to get him on IV fluids twice a day... I prayed every night for him to pull through.
Two months have passed, and he’s still frighteningly skinny. I’ve tried everything to boost his meals, but he just can’t gain the weight he needs to truly recover. He’s so fragile, it’s heartbreaking... At six months old, he should be a playful puppy, running around! But instead, he’s a frail little thing, struggling to hold on to even a single kilo.
Marcel desperately needs this kibble to have a chance. Without it, he might lose his fight… His short life could end far too soon.”
“I spend my entire salary feeding these dogs. All of it. Every month, I buy food on credit, repay when I get paid, and then fall back into debt for the next month. I’m always counting, always behind, always stressed.
In Serbia, people don’t donate. They think we’re all scammers living off the backs of animals. I’ve been doing this for 15 years, and I still haven’t managed to build any local support. The few donations I receive come from abroad, from people who understand what we’re doing.
I’ve tried everything. I’ve contacted organizations, posted on social media, pleaded for help. But there’s always an emergency, always another dog on the street that needs saving. Today, my salary has become the shelter’s main source of funding… and that just isn’t sustainable—not with this many animals.
Kibble prices are skyrocketing with inflation, and donations have all but disappeared. Honestly, I’ve hit rock bottom…”
"I’ve never left a single animal behind. Every dog I see on my way to work, I try to take in, bring to safety. Because I know their lives are at risk—they might not survive the day. This is my purpose, this is what I do.
I’ve been dedicated to this mission for 15 years. I’ve seen the urgent need to help abandoned dogs here. I’ve fought legal battles, launched spay-and-neuter programs with the city, and handled abuse cases. Take Jerry, for example: his owner beat him, and I made sure he was removed and that charges were filed. For me, this isn’t just about feeding dogs—it’s about changing the way animals are treated in my region.
But I’m human, and I’ve reached my limit. Nine months without a single day off, nine months carrying this burden alone. I’m exhausted, I’m scared, and I desperately need help. At my age, this is an overwhelming load—a job that has become unmanageable. I simply can’t do it all alone anymore.
Your kibble isn’t just a meal for a dog: it’s what allows me to sleep at night, knowing they’re not hungry. It’s what lets me focus on their medical care instead of panicking about food. And most of all, it’s what gives me hope to keep going in this mission that has become my whole life.”
