Animal Webaction visited the site 08 July 2025 and confirms the situation described below.
"The pressure on street dogs is unbearable. In just one month, about forty new dogs have been added to my feeding rounds, bringing the total to over 300! The reason: summer abandonments...
With so many extra mouths to feed, each dog is left hungry. Some follow us from one feeding spot to another, hoping to scrape up a few extra pieces of kibble. Others are reduced to eating garbage or plastic...
The street dogs are weak and stressed. Fights break out more often. Many also venture onto busy roads searching for food. Several young dogs have already been hit by cars... If I don't get this kibble, there will be more deaths! It's inevitable."
"Moven is a dog I've been caring for for a few years. A car once hit him so violently that his left eye was torn from its socket! After weeks of surgeries and treatment, part of his vision returned, but his eye remains damaged and fragile.
He is deeply attached to his territory. I tried to place him at the shelter, but he only gets stressed and falls ill. But on the streets, hunger is dangerous for him: he can't compete with younger, faster dogs, and his limited vision makes him vulnerable to fights.
If the kibble shortage worsens, he'll be forced to cross the busy coastal road searching for food. Another collision could cost him his life..."
"The situation has become critical. In just a few weeks, the number of dogs in the sanctuary has gone from 550 to about 650, because the municipality continues to collect stray dogs from tourist areas and sends them here. Refusing them would mean certain death, so we take them under our wing, but our food budget hasn't budged an inch! A hundred extra mouths are now sharing the same limited rations...
I've been forced to reduce portions since mid-June. My dogs' ribs are starting to show, and fights around empty bowls have become commonplace. Bites are multiplying; older dogs especially are being pushed aside by the stronger ones...
The oppressive heat and overcrowding only make things worse. Stressed and undernourished dogs get sick faster! Mange, tick fever, and intestinal infections are spreading... Without new kibble soon, the already tense situation will turn into a nightmare!"
"Our finances are in the red on all fronts. Veterinary debts are colossal, and we still owe large amounts to the kibble supplier. Each new emergency only makes the situation worse, and the supplier now demands cash payment before delivery, which removes all our flexibility.
Donations have dropped drastically — many faithful donors have put their help on pause because of inflation. And summer always means fewer donations because families spend money on vacations... There's no margin left: we've already stopped almost all new rescues except when an animal is in immediate mortal danger and a donor commits to paying in advance.
The lack of money dictates everything. I buy less kibble than the dogs need, I reduce portions, and I postpone basic care. Parasite treatments, vaccinations, even simple repairs have to wait! Without this campaign, both street dogs and shelter dogs risk dying of hunger..."
"It never gets easier... Every time I see a dog suffering, I immediately get a knot in my stomach and one obsession: do everything to help. Off to the vet, IV fluids, find a safe kennel. Acting fast is the only way to keep panic from overwhelming me. But once the crisis passes, the images remain. There are nights when I can't sleep because I replay all the images over and over. The only real choice I have is to get up the next day and continue... So that the next dog suffers less.
What keeps me going is knowing that these dogs only have us. Seeing a dog who couldn't stand yesterday get up to eat today reminds me why we do all this. The small victories — a wound that heals, an adoption that comes through, a bag of kibble that arrives at just the right moment — it's priceless.
Without us, hundreds of abandoned dogs would have nothing... But we can't do anything without your support! Every euro you give becomes a full bowl, a medicine, a chance of survival for a dog who never had anyone... Right now, it's kibble that we need most desperately — it can literally save their lives! Even a small donation or just sharing our campaign helps us hold on when everything seems lost..."
