"I'm terrified. I have just enough kibble left for a few more days. After that, I'll have to start rationing. I have 52 dogs at the shelter. Another 8 are with me at home, and 8 more are at my friend and volunteer Marina's place. That's 68 dogs who depend on me for food, every single day.
After the last campaign failed, I had no choice, I had to buy kibble on credit. Now I'm in debt, and if this new campaign doesn't work out either... honestly, I don't know how I'll manage. I managed to get four dogs adopted, but I also took in two others who were very badly injured. One of them needs surgery. But how can I even think about medical care when I can't even feed them properly anymore?
Right now, they're eating very low-quality kibble. It's all I could afford. And even that is running out. In a day or two, I won't have a choice: I'll have to limit their portions. And that means more tension, more barking, more fights... everything falls apart when hunger sets in.
These dogs are counting on me. The thought of them going hungry because I failed, because this campaign failed... it's unbearable. We won't recover a second time."
"Braonka is just a baby. She's about a year old. Workers found her abandoned near a mine. She was all alone and injured. No one wanted to take her in. No one but me.
When she arrived a few weeks ago, both of her back legs were damaged. Her femoral heads were fractured. She was also very skinny, and she still is... even if it's hard to see under her thick coat. Her injury didn't heal properly, so now she needs surgery to be able to walk again.
But how can I even plan for surgery when I'm not sure if I can keep feeding the dogs tomorrow? She's the sweetest little soul. She follows me everywhere, just wanting to be loved. She deserves a second chance. But without kibble, I won't be able to give her that."
"I take care of about 60 street dogs. We're in the middle of a heatwave right now... I'm doing my best to bring them water and food. But they live in terrible conditions. Many get poisoned. Some just disappear. Others are hit by cars or harmed by people who hate dogs.
If I can't feed them regularly, they'll start wandering farther, looking for something to eat. That's when they get into trouble. They fight with other dogs. They scare people. And then the dog catchers are called. Once they're taken to the public shelters... it's over.
Some dogs are already more agitated than usual when I bring food. I can tell they're hungrier, more desperate. If I stop feeding them completely, they'll become aggressive. They'll get thinner, sicker. And they'll vanish, one by one."
"My financial situation is very bad. I have over €1,000 in vet bills. I owe money to the pet store for the kibble I had to buy on credit. And now, I just received a utility bill that's much higher than expected. I'm not getting donations anymore. These campaigns are truly our only source of help.
I had to stop giving the dogs their parasite treatment. I just can't afford it anymore. I do get some help from an English association that finds adopters, but the adoption rate varies; it's never something we can anticipate.
When the last kibble campaign failed, it crushed me. When there's no food, nothing else matters! I can't help injured dogs. I can't do anything. I tried reaching out to others, but no one responded. I've run out of options. That's why this campaign is so important. It's the only way I have to get by, and to keep saving them..."
"The hardest part of this work is when I try to save a dog and I can't. When I do everything I can and it's not enough. That failure—it breaks me. Feeding them, caring for them—that's not hard. What's hard is how people treat me, like I'm crazy for doing this... Even worse is dealing with the people paid by the state and supposed to protect animals, who do nothing! Trying to talk to them is pointless.
This work has changed me. I trust animals more and people less. Every day, I see things that make it harder to believe in human kindness. The laws in my country are good, but no one enforces them. Dogs suffer and nothing changes.
Still, I won't stop. A successful day for me is simple: no emergencies, no pain. Just peace. Just full bellies. When there's food, everything becomes easier. I can plan. I can help. I can breathe. But without kibble, all of that disappears. And I carry that fear every single day."
